After England’s Test team lost to their transcontinental rivals in 1882, a satirical obituary in the British tabloid “The Sporting Times declared that the player would be cremated and his ashes would be sent to Australia. This effectively put an end to English cricket as we know it today.”

The animosity between the two nations has persisted across all sporting events, but it began with Test cricket and is particularly evident during the Ashes Test series. Nine meetings between the two teams have occurred in the history of the Cricket World Cup. Three of those matches have been won by England, and six by Australia.
