Goodwood Motor Circuit was a popular location during its initial run. From 1958 to 1964. It held the renowned RAC Tourist Trophy seven times, which is frequently a round of the World Sportscar Championship. Aston Martin DBR1 and Ferrari 250 drivers Stirling Moss. Innes Ireland, Carroll Shelby, and Graham Hill were among those who attended the event.
The Revival brings the Motor Circuit return to life as it would have been all those years ago. With many of the cars that would have competed at Goodwood during those first years now making a comeback and competing just as fiercely. We’ve already looked at a few of the Formula One vehicles that will be at Revival. You really must see. This weekend, we’re going to highlight six sports cars, each with a unique bit of history. That you absolutely must not miss.
1. Ferrari 250 GTO
Cars are coming back to Goodwood, incidentally. During the 1962 RAC TT, which included five GTOs overall including this one driven by the legendary. John Surtees there were also GTOs driven by Graham Hill, David Piper, Innes Ireland, and Mike Parkes. Despite being in a strong running position until lap 62 of the race, Surtees crashed. In order to win the manufacturers’ title, the Ferraris had an exceptional season, dominating every race they participated in.
Surtees’s vehicle from that day, which escaped the collision, will make a comeback to Goodwood this weekend for the Revival. It will take place as part of the three-day John Surtees Celebration. Don’t pass up the opportunity to witness its demonstration on Friday at 15:25, Saturday at 13:50, and Sunday at 16:40.
2. Lister ‘Flat Iron’
Another vehicle that was formerly driven by a motorsports legend. Jim Clark himself claims that this Lister Flat Iron is the vehicle that taught him the most about racing. He purchased it to race in 1959 through the Scottish Border Reivers team. Although chassis number BHL 5 was initially constructed in 1955. It was necessary to undergo a substantial rebuild in 1956 due to significant damage. The automobile was given a new Lister chassis frame and fitted with a custom aluminium body. Giving it the nickname “Flat Iron.” It also had a 3.4-liter Jaguar XK engine.
Three years later, Jim Clark raced this same vehicle. Winning at Mallory Park on his debut and going on to win again at Charterhall. He competed in the Whitsun Trophy race at Goodwood as well that year. This weekend, the car will return to the Motor Circuit to compete in the unique Sussex Trophy. 3. Jaguar E-Type
Here’s a highly important Jaguar E-type that comes next. When an E-type is around, it’s easy to become comfortable. But you can pretty much count on each and every one of these gorgeous sports cars to have a unique backstory. If this one could talk, that one in particular would be quite proud. With more race wins and participation than any other E-type in history.
It is the most common E-type ever. Between 1965 and 1972, it is reported to have competed 135 times. Winning an incredible 26 races in a single season. It is identifiable by its ‘WOO 11’ number plate and will be lining up on the grid this weekend for the RAC TT Celebration. It was originally raced by Roy Salvadori and probably many more.
4. Cheetah
When it comes to the most savage American V8 sportscars to race worldwide. The Bill Thomas Cheetah needs to be at the very top of the list. The man behind it was a Chevrolet performance tuner who presented the concept for a vehicle that would surpass the industry-dominating Shelby Cobra. GM liked his idea and helped Thomas develop a concept car called the Cheetah since they were tired of the Cobra’s unrelenting success.
Prior to its scheduled 1963 debut, it crashed. By the time it was prepared to compete in 1964. Rules had changed to demand the construction of 1,000 cars in order to get homologation. The original car still stands today. But the Cheetah was virtually killed off before it could ever make a name for itself on the international circuit. This time around, it will be present at the Goodwood Revival. Competing in the RAC TT Celebration driven by Duncan Pittaway. Its enormous sound and unique appearance will make it hard to miss.
5. MG EX 182 (MGA)
MG said that it would field three cars in the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours. Marking its comeback to the global motorsport scene. While the company was working on the MGA, a new road car. Three racing prototypes were created as a result of that development. Ken Miles drove this specific car. It was known as an MG EX 182 and went on to win the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 1966 Daytona 24 Hours while driving for Ford and Porsche.
After the vastly superior Porsche 550 Spyders. The great American finished sixth in the S 1.5 class on his debut at Le Mans. It was a remarkable achievement. This car will next be seen at the Goodwood Revival, where it will battle for glory in the Fordwater Trophy. It has already raced at Reims, Dunrod, and Crystal Palace. With a history rooted in Le Mans, this sleek little vehicle is destined to perform well. We are eager to witness its implementation.
6. Aston Martin DB3S
This next vehicle is the one that Stirling Moss used to win the 1956 Goodwood race. It debuted as the official Aston Martin vehicle following the 1954 Le Mans 24 Hours. Alongside Carroll Shelby, Roy Salvadori, and Peter Collins, it finished first, second, and third in its debut race at Silverstone. Following then, Syd Gilby bought it. He used it for Salvadori in 1956.
Moss was given the car to drive to the Goodwood Easter Meeting. He won handily. Securing the car’s position in motorsport history for all time. The Motor Circuit will host the return of the legendary Goodwood winners. So don’t miss it.
It’s always a unique occasion. Running with the exact number 59 that Moss raced with all those years ago. It will be in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy on Sunday night.
It will be participating in the Glover Trophy, just as it did in the early 1960s. Goodwood Revival 2024 tickets are in high demand as fans Don’t miss out on the chance to experience the magic of Goodwood Revival you can easily book your tickets through our online platform, e-ticketing.co

During which time drivers such as Roy Salvadori, Innes Ireland, Graham Hill, Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, and John Surtees were first given the coveted Glover Trophy. John Surtees’ victory in the Formula One Championship is being celebrated for 60 years this year, and to commemorate this occasion, the Revival will feature a number of his most well-known vehicles, including the championship-winning Ferrari 158.
And that’s not all during the Revival weekend, a number of the best Formula One cars from the 1950s and 1960s will reappear on the Motor Circuit to honour that enchanted period of motorsport history. At the 2024 Goodwood Revival, you must witness these six Formula One vehicles.
1. Goodwood Revival: Ferrari 158
Because the Goodwood Revival offers a unique chance to witness it in action, we’ll start with the Ferrari 158. This vehicle belonged to John Surtees, who won the Nürburgring and Monza races to take the car to the 1964 Formula One World Championship. It competed in just one complete season before being modified with a V12 engine in late 1964. It was the first Formula One vehicle with a monocoque chassis, and the 1.5-litre V8 engine it ran in 158 forms made it a very competitive, if not always dependable, car.
Since only the top six finishes were taken into account, Surtees’ six podium finishes during the season were sufficient to give him a one-point lead over Graham Hill in the championship. It will be on display for the John Surtees Celebration at the Revival. On Friday at 15:25, on Saturday at 13:50, and on Sunday at 16:40, it will circle the motor circuit. A prestigious spot in motorsport history awaits you if you maintain an eye out for this modest little car.
2. Goodwood Revival: Ferrari 1512
The 158 was redesigned with a V12 engine, as we previously said, and the outcome was the Ferrari 1512. With 10 more horsepower than the 158, the 1.5-litre V12 produced 220 PS (162 kW), and it was built especially to compete on the faster tracks, such as Monza and Spa. The 1512 trailed the field in 1965, only achieving a couple of podiums under Surtees and Lorenzo Bandini’s leadership, despite taking third at the season’s last race in 1964.
There were only ever three constructed, so seeing it in action is unique, especially at Goodwood where it will also be taking part in the John Surtees Festival this weekend. You may also read: Admission list for Goodwood Revival 2024
3. Goodwood Revival: Cooper T51
This is a vehicle with a rich history at Goodwood. With Rob Walker Racing, Stirling Moss won the Glover Trophy in 1959 with this Cooper T51. That year, the T51 created history by perfecting a rear-engined setup that let it arrive at Goodwood in March and finish first on its first try, making it the fastest F1 car in the world. Jack Brabham drove it to win at the 1959 Monaco Grand Prix, marking its first world championship triumph as well.
He went on to win the race that year, making history as the first driver in a rear-engined vehicle. A move that permanently changed Formula One. This Cooper T51, which took home the win at Goodwood 65 years back. It will be competing in the Revival race around the Motor Circuit. Its four-cylinder. 2.5-liter Climax engine will start up for the Richmond & Gordon Trophies Official Training on Friday at 15:45. The race, scheduled for Sunday at 10:30. It will feature a dark blue Rob Walker Racing vehicle with a white band around its nose.
4. Goodwood Revival: Lotus 18
Similar to this, Colin Chapman’s Formula One career was greatly improved with the Lotus 18. Again, it was driven by Innes Ireland to win the 1961 Glover Trophy at Goodwood. Making it the first Formula One victory for Lotus. However, this specific car is closely associated with Jim Clark. April 3, 1961, was the day the Scot won his maiden race in this Lotus 18. It was the non-competition Pau Grand Prix.
Two hours and forty-nine minutes later. Clark crossed the finish line ninety seconds ahead of Jo Bonnier. Introducing Lotus and himself to the Formula One world and igniting an incredible run of success for both the driver and the team. One of three 18s in the grid. Jim Clark’s Lotus 18 will be competing in the Richmond & Gordon Trophies this weekend. Keep an eye out for car number 18 to see the vehicle that propelled the legendary two-time world champion to his first Formula One triumph.
5. Goodwood Revival: Ferguson P99
The Ferguson P99, which is unique in that it is the only Formula One vehicle with four wheels and the final front-engined vehicle to win a race. It was also a pioneer albeit one that was not as successful. Stirling Moss’s victory in the International Gold Cup at Oulton Park, driving a Ferguson P99. It was a historic event regardless of it wasn’t a world championship race. The extra grip of Ferguson’s four-wheel-drive system gave it a significant edge as Moss easily defeated a field of dominating Coopers and Lotuses to claim the checkered flag by a wide margin. The wet circumstances played right into Ferguson’s strengths.
While competing for Rob Walker Racing in the 1961 British Grand Prix, it was disqualified for receiving outside assistance. It will be competing in the Richmond & Gordon Trophies at the Revival. Looking stunning in its traditional blue and white livery.
6. Goodwood Revival: Gilby Type B1
We got a real gem right here. In the 1950s, Gilby Engineering was a racing team that raced a Maserati 250F for Roy Salvadori. Syd Greene, the founder, started by competing in Formula Libre and Formula One races in Britain. He also frequently visited Goodwood and competed in multiple European rounds of the world championship at Reims, Silverstone, the Nürburgring, and Monza.
Following great success working with drivers such as Salvadori and Stirling Moss. Green focused on his son Keith in 1959 and started designing his vehicle, which made its racing debut in 1961. Fuelled by a 1.5-litre Climax engine, it was low-slung and rear-engined, precisely like the Coopers of the day. Sadly, it was never very quick. There was only ever one constructed of these. You will be able to witness it in action at the Goodwood Revival 2024.
It will be participating in the Glover Trophy, just as it did in the early 1960s. Goodwood Revival 2024 tickets are in high demand as fans Don’t miss out on the chance to experience the magic of Goodwood Revival you can easily book your tickets through our online platform, e-ticketing.co

When Alex Brundle returns to the Motor Circuit in a Lola T70 Spyder, the demonic beings of the Whitsun Trophy, presented by Sky, will undoubtedly make a lot of noise. Adrian Newey in his own Ford GT40 and Nick Padmore in an incredibly rare Hamill SR3 will be his rivals in the race.
Things only get better as Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy winner Tom Kristensen begins his track comeback. He’s driving a Ferrari 250 GT SWB. Famous drivers such as Darren Turner, Rob Huff, Gordon Shedden, and Rory Butcher will be competing in one of the most esteemed races of the Revival, and their Jaguar E-types will line the field. In an Aston Martin DB4GT, Dario Franchitti and Jimmie Johnson will be the perfect combination.
While Emanuele Pirro will climb into a Ferrari 250 GT SWB. While this is going on, James Cottingham in an AC Cobra will undoubtedly be fighting hard. When the 1950s grand prix racers return to the Motor Circuit for the Richmond & Gordon Trophies, the 500cc Formula 3 cars competing in the Earl of March Trophy will provide quite the contrast. Smaller cars from Cooper, Comet, Kieft, Flash, and Arnott will be competing.
RAC TT Celebration
Maserati 250Fs, Connaughts, and Ferrari 246 Dinos with front engines will compete against Cooper and Lotus, the pioneers of rear engines, on the grid. An annual feature of the Revival is the race for grand prix cars from 1961 to 1965. Its rekindles memories of Formula One at Goodwood Revival 2024.

It was powered by this six-cylinder engine. It also gave its name to a few of the company’s most notable machines, not the least of which was the XK120 sports car when it was first installed.
The most famous engines
One of the most recognizable engines in the history of automobiles is the renowned Jaguar XK straight-six engine, which made its debut in 1949. Walter Hassan, Henry Heynes, and Claude Baily were the engineers who designed this 3.4-liter engine, which made its debut in the Jaguar XK120 sports vehicle. A major contributor to Jaguar’s racing triumphs in the 1950s, including wins at the Le Mans 24 Hours, was the XK engine, which became known for its uniformity, power, and dependability.
The twin camshaft and circular combustion chambers of the engine were cutting-edge features for the time. For almost forty years, the XK engine was the power behind a number of Jaguar models, such as the D-Type, C-Type, and E-Type, as well as high-end saloon cars. This helped define Jaguar’s reputation as a top producer of luxury and performance automobiles.

Porsche 911 Turbo Flatnose
The face of the Porsche 911 is so iconic that even a small quantity of cosmetics can create the impression. The Mona Lisa has lately consumed a lot of eco-warrior paint. Probably the greatest illustration of this is the 996. Destined to dwell in the shadow of 911 history due to the fact that its headlights mimic a fried egg. One of the nation’s favorite morning snacks. This has never been duplicated before or after.
The reason it’s the least popular 911 in the world is that, happily. We can practically all aspire to own one someday. The 997 completed the task of restoring the 911’s headlights to their proper, round shape. While the 996 received a sticking-plaster facelift. Fried egg headlights were a small blip on the 911’s evolution chart. Imagine how a 930 Turbo Flachbau or Slantnose would have appeared in the 1980s. Speeding by you on King’s Road with its pop-up headlights and flat nose a la Ferrari.
The impact of 996
If you thought the 996 had an impact when it was introduced in 1996. Just think about how it would have looked then. Though Mansour Ojjeh, the proprietor of TAG, who had collaborated with Porsche on a race engine. Made a particular request for the car’s construction, it was modelled after the 1976 935 race car.
A Candy Apple unique that was equipped with wheel arch extension vents large enough to suck in seagulls and a finely tuned 3.3-litre turbocharged flat-six engine. Soon after, the Slantnose became available through Porsche’s Special Request program. It increased the price of your new Porsche 930 Turbo by a sizeable amount. The headlights of later automobiles were pop-ups, while those of early models were built into the front bumper.
Although the Flat Nose offered some aerodynamic advantages. Porsche acknowledged that its main selling point was the opportunity for customers to possess a unique vehicle. Since nothing like the Flat Nose has ever been sold. When this variant goes up for auction at the Bonhams|Cars Goodwood Revival sale on September 7. You can see why it will fetch a high price. This is one of the eighteen right-hand drive Flat Noses made in 1986 specifically for the UK market.
The equipped Vehicles
These vehicles were equipped with massive rear wings, flared wheel arches, and pop-up headlights. With nearly every surface covered in leather. With a staggering 12,610 kilometres on the clock, the automobile is expected to fetch between £160,000 and £200,000. It also explains why the price is so astounding.

In the NFL, deadline day has come and gone. The 32 clubs have made the last significant roster cut before the NFL 2024–25 season, bringing their total to 53 players. Each organization made countless choices at crucial spots to narrow down to that 53-man roster. Even though some layoffs were anticipated, a handful that left good players on the open market on Tuesday afternoon caught us off guard.
Don’t miss out on the electrifying action of NFL London 2024. Watch your favourite teams play live in exciting matches that will have you gripped from start to finish. Secure your NFL London 2024 Tickets now to be part of this unforgettable experience. The following five players, who were cut on deadline day, and their potential positions in NFL 2024 are listed:
QB Desmond Ridder
Over his final season as a starter for the Falcons, Ridder went 6-7 with 2,836 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 12 picks through 249 of 388 passes completed. Through the air, he gained 193 yards and 5 touchdowns. While he was waived in favour of Clayton Tune to backup Kyler Murray, he signed an offseason contract with the Cardinals.
In the event that the play fails, Ridder’s mobility allows him to create even though his arm isn’t particularly strong. With the ability to create after the catch and a solid foundation on short and intermediate passes, he is perfect for an offence that does not depend heavily on the long ball.
Potential fit: Green Bay Packers
The Packers currently only have two quarterbacks on their lineup: starting Jordan Love and newly acquired backup Malik Willis. As things stand now, Ridder would be preferable to Willis. The run-intensive scheme Ridder was used to in Atlanta wouldn’t be a huge change to learn in head coach Matt LaFleur’s play-action robust, effective system.
RB Samaje Perine
Perine, who will turn 29 this season, finished the previous season with the Broncos with 693 yards from scrimmage, one touchdown, and one reception. He does well as a receiving back and defender but is not a feature back. The coaching staff’s fondness for second-year running back Jaleel McLaughlin who performed admirably as a rookie and rookie Audric Estime is probably the main reason Denver cut him.
Potential fit: The Dallas Cowboys
With Tony Pollard heading into free agency, Ezekiel Elliott was glad to be back in Dallas. Dallas will be behind NFC competitors at the position in 2024 as Elliott and Rico Dowdle are predicted to be the leading runners. Perine’s receiving skills might complement either starter and provide a more varied rotation at the position, even if he wouldn’t necessarily be the starter. Since their founding in 1960, the Dallas Cowboys have grown to become one of the most recognizable and prosperous teams in NFL history
They rose to prominence in the 1970s under the guidance of the renowned coach Tom Landry, and they experienced a comeback with players like Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, and Troy Aikman in the 1990s. The Cowboys are also well-known for their intense rivalries, especially with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.
WR Noah Brown
It was difficult for Brown to make the Houston roster this season due to the Stefon Diggs trade this offseason, as well as the emergence of Tank Dell and Nico Collins. However, he has done a fantastic job when given the opportunity. In the last two seasons, he started 20 games altogether for Dallas and Houston, with 76 receptions for 1,122 yards and five scores. He worked both outside and from the slot throughout that time, notching just eight drops.
Potential fit: New York Giants
Malik Nabers, who should see a significant amount of targets this autumn for the Giants, cost New York a first-round draft selection. In his third season, head coach Brian Daboll might be under pressure and might benefit from having an experienced receiver. Brown, along with Nabers, could enhance the New York Giants’ attack during a crucial season. A historic and illustrious NFL team established in 1925. The Giants, known for their strong defensive skills, have won four Super Bowl championships and four NFL titles prior to the Super Bowl era.
Among the many Hall of Famers they have produced is one of the finest defensive players in history, Lawrence Taylor. The Giants are renowned for their tenacity; they frequently pull off stunning postseason runs. As evidenced by their two unforgettable Super Bowl triumphs over the New England Patriots. Iconic moments and a tradition of tenacity and competitive excellence characterize their lengthy history. You may also read: NFL 2024 team Patriots news, gossip, and quick analysis
WR Terrace Marshall Jr.
Following the Panthers’ acquisitions of Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette this summer through trade and the NFL 2024 Draft, respectively, Marshall Jr. was released by Carolina. Marshall Jr., who is starting his fourth season in the NFL, turned 24 this offseason. Although he has never been a full-time starter, he had a strong performance in 2022. Coming in second to Jaylen Waddle among receivers with at least 25 grabs in terms of yards per reception (17.5). He has occasionally shown off a lot of potential, but he hasn’t combined it.
Potential fit: New England Patriots
There is no one stopping Marshall Jr. from seeing a lot of playing time, and the Patriots could use some assistance at wideout. They would benefit from having a taller, more vertical receiver than Tyquan Thornton, a 2022 second-round selection. Additionally, he is still young enough to contribute to future success for prospective franchise quarterback Drake Maye if he develops well.
The Patriots, who have a reputation for being brilliant strategists, reliable, and capable in crunch time, have broken multiple records. Most notably the 16-0 regular season they had in 2007. They are now considered the NFL’s gold standard of excellence due to their consistent success.
EDGE Carl Lawson
Surprisingly, the Cowboys cut the 29-year-old edge rusher Monday, leaving Dallas scant at the position opposite Micah Parsons. Lawson got seven sacks for the Jets in 2022 after suffering an Achilles injury. Although he didn’t perform well in a limited role the previous season. In addition to his ability to rush passes. His size of 6-foot-2 and 265 pounds gives him the ability to establish the advantage versus the run.
Potential fit: Baltimore Ravens
This seems like an attempt by the Ravens to discover a contributor off the edge by holding off until late August. Jadeveon Clowney’s 2024 departure to Carolina leaves Baltimore without a very exceptional edge pass rusher on the team. Despite Lawson’s history of injuries. He should still be a valuable addition to any defence that needs help at the position. Two Super Bowl championships were won by the Ravens: in 2000 and 2012.
The Ravens have been regular postseason challengers for years, thanks to their formidable defenses, which have been led by defensive greats like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Their bitter competition with the Pittsburgh Steelers is another reason for their notoriety. Thanks to their great drafting and resilient and tough culture. The Ravens have consistently been a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.

William Bradley-King also cut off
Despite the fact that he get three pressures in the preseason finale to lead the pass rush. Defensive end William Bradley-King was cut by New England. The defender has recently taken on a larger role as a result of edge injuries. This could give him a chance to return to the practice squad.
Steele Chambers, an undrafted rookie linebacker, has been released. Even if fellow LB Sione Takitaki appears as physically incapable of performing. He was buried on the depth chart. Patriots roster size (30 to 53): 83
The first wide receiver to leave the Patriots’ crowded group has done so. Poor depth led to the release of Azizi Hearn and La’Michael Pettway. There are 84 Patriots on the roster (31 to 53). Because of a quiet preseason and training camp. Sam Roberts doesn’t appear in the 53-man roster of the Patriots, meaning that 85 players are on it. S Ronnie Harrison (Colts), JuJu Smith-Schuster (Patriots), RB Boston Scott (Rams), and LB Deion Jones (Bills).

Chiefs acquire edge
Chiefs acquire edge rusher Cameron Thomas through a swing deal with the Cardinals. The edge rusher Cameron Thomas of the Arizona Cardinals was dealt to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a seventh-round selection. Thomas was selected in the third round by the Cardinals in 2022. The last selection made under previous general manager Steve Keim, out of San Diego State. Trey McBride, a tight end selected in the second round, has emerged as the only significant player in that class.
Beyond Donovan Peoples-Jones, the Lions move on
Motown is the location of the DPJ experiment. WR Donovan Peoples-Jones was released by the Detroit Lions. Only a few hours after Lions coach Dan Campbell revealed the criteria he and general manager Brad Holmes were using to choose the team’s final receiving group, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz broke the story of Peoples-Jones’ dismissal.
Having allowed Josh Reynolds to depart as their number three receiver in free agency, the Lions re-signed Peoples-Jones this spring after acquiring him from the Cleveland Browns during last fall’s trade deadline. You may also read: How role changes in NFL 2024 impact in pre-season?
Denver Broncos cut eight players
During the afternoon on Monday, the Broncos formally released eight players, even as Denver considered deals for several of their veterans (see below). There were some waiver releases: DL Angelo Blackson, WR Phillip Dorsett II, and ILB Andre Smith; others were S Omar Brown, DB Kaleb Hayes, CB Art Green, OL Oliver Jervis, and ILB Alec Mock.
Malik Willis is moving in what might be the first of many actions this week regarding a backup quarterback rotation. According to Adam Schefter, the Tennessee Titans are trading their 2022 third-round pick out of Liberty to the Green Bay Packers in return for a seventh-round draft pick.
Although Tennessee chose to select Will Levis in the second round of the previous year’s draft, Willis started three games as a rookie. Willis receives a fresh start with the Packers, with Levis solidified as the starter after replacing Ryan Tannehill in the middle of the 2023 season and veteran Mason Rudolph signed as a backup this offseason. QB Michael Pratt, a seventh-round pick from Tulane, and Sean Clifford are still available for the Packers.
Cardinals made Initial cuts
None of the six players who left the Arizona Cardinals’ roster was a surprise when they announced their first roster cut. The team announced the release of S Verone McKinley III; Daylen Baldwin, WR; Chris Garrett, OL; CB Michael Ojemudia; CB Delonte Hood; and CB Austin Hood. The Broncos are losing two important offensive players.
Before Sean Payton takes over for his second season as head coach, two more prominent Denver Broncos players may be leaving. Tim Patrick, a wide receiver who amassed over 700 receiving yards in 2020 and 2021.
Before the deadline on Tuesday, Patrick, 30, has attracted “strong” interest in the trade market, according to Klis. Perine finished the season with 50 catches and an average of 4.5 yards per run. But it seems the Broncos would prefer to start Audric Estime, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Javonte Williams in the backfield going forward.
Bears release nine players
Quindell Johnson, safety, offensive linemen Ja’Tyre Carter and Jerome Carvin, defensive players Michael Dwumfour and Jaylon Hutchings. A few of the San Francisco 49ers’ cuts on Monday were identifiable because few rosters are as rich as the one held by the defending NFC champions. Pressley Harvin III was among the three players waived by the team. While experienced running backs Matt Breida and Ke’Shawn Vaughn were released.
With almost 3,600 yards from scrimmage, largely as a backup, Breida is an NFL veteran of seven seasons. The first three of which he played for San Francisco. Christian McCaffrey, the All-Pro running back, still has Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell as his primary backups. Harvin, who played college football for three seasons at Georgia Tech and won the Ray Guy Award as the best punter in the league in 2020. He was unable to defeat Mitch Wishnowsky this summer.
Buccaneers roster move: Sterling Shepard is not playing

Vikings roster cuts: Minnesota takes first action
On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings waived or released 14 players as the first step in their roster reductions. Prominent players included UAB standout running back DeWayne McBride, a 2023 7th-round selection, and UFL quarterback Matt Corral. A former third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers who joined the team after J.J. McCarthy had a season-ending knee injury.
Steelers roster cuts: First-wave releases had eight players
The Pittsburgh Steelers have started the process of cutting players. The Seattle Seahawks are committed to a trade again. Following their recent trades of cornerback Michael Jackson to the Chicago Bears for linebacker Michael Barrett and edge rusher Darrell Taylor them.
Gipson, 27, only got one sack in his final season with the Tennessee Titans. But he had seven in his 2021 campaign with the Chicago Bears. Following the trade of Taylor, he gives Seattle more depth on the edge. Uchenna Nwosu, Derick Hall, Boye Mafe.
Re-signing with the Chiefs is JuJu Smith-Schuster
Entering his eighth NFL season, Smith-Schuster became visible again in what seems to be a packed Kansas City Chiefs wideout room. Smith-Schuster was perhaps the first well-known athlete to hit the unemployment line earlier in August. After letting Smith-Schuster leave after the 2022 season. The two-time reigning champs are bringing back the star who looks to be in decline.
What transpires after the roster deadline?
As part of league-wide team reductions, NFL teams have until Wednesday, August 28. At noon ET to claim participants who are waived. Clubs will start completing their practice squads after such claims are settled.
How large are practice squads in the NFL?
A practice squad of up to 16 players can be carried by teams in addition to the 53-man roster. 10 players with two or fewer total seasons can join a practice squad. But no more than six players with an unlimited amount of NFL service may be assigned to a team.

Together, the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans have eight kickoffs in the annual Hall of Fame Game, which is the NFL 2024 opening preseason contest. A glaring example of the potential efficacy of the league’s new kickoff stance is the fact that seven of them were denied and only one was touched back.

Nevertheless, with two-thirds of the training gone, a more complex viewpoint on rule modification has emerged. For example, in the Minnesota Vikings’ Week 2 matchup with the Cleveland Browns. Six out of ten kickoff returns resulted in touchbacks. Just three came back.
The standard by which any type of preseason success is measured should always be the coaches’ instincts regarding keeping their strategy a secret until the regular season. In front of a regulation that might add 1,000 more plays to the regular season and drastically alter the average opening position of drives, there has been a good deal of legitimate experimenting.
Together with a few other new regulations and guidelines for the 2024 season. Let’s examine more closely what we’ve learnt thus far about how teams have responded to the new alignment.
The kickoff: Not a dead play anymore
This summer has seen a clear overall pattern, although significant fluctuation from game to game. Here is what has transpired leaguewide in the 2024 training after NFL clubs collectively returned 22% of kickoffs and allowed 73% to end in touchbacks during the 2023 regular season:
78% kickoffs have been made again
19% of touchbacks have resulted from kickoffs
Remember, kickoff returns were usually scored at higher rates during the preseason than they were under the previous rule. Nevertheless, compared to 63% at this point in 2023, this summer’s return rate is noticeably higher. You may also read: Jacksonville Jaguars’ Final implied team for the NFL 2024
NFL Average Kickoff Drives
Kickoffs at the 28.3-yard line have resulted in an average drive start after an average return of 25 yards. There has been an increase in variation along with that rise. Following a kickoff, about 20% of drives have begun inside the 20-yard line, 41% between the 21 and 30 yards, and 36% beyond the 30 yards. The increase in overall returns has resulted in more huge plays.
However, from 30% in Week 1 to 40% in Week 2. There was a noticeable rise in balls hit into the end zone. In the landing zone, which is the space between the goal line and the 20-yard line. About two-thirds of kickoffs have landed. A few miskicks have been made that have resulted in a penalty and the ball being noticed at the 40-yard line. Seven kickoffs have fallen inside the 20-yard line, and one has gone outside the rules.
Dawn Aponte Stated
Coaches may eventually decide to go with the certainty of a touchback over the probable variance of a return. As the new regulation calls for a touchback at the 30-yard line. The chief football executive of the league, Dawn Aponte, stated on Monday that it is doubtful that the touchback will be moved farther up to discourage kickoffs. She also stated that any more possible changes will likely be made in the following seven to ten days rather than during the regular season.
Kickers have engaged in more tackles, as predicted. As opposed to the 2023 regular-season rate of once per 15 games. They have been recognized with an assist or solo tackle around every four games. The kickoff and kickoff return protection, which is now more akin to offence against. Defence play has been discussed by starters. According to Vikings’ dedicated squads coordinator Matt Daniels, who made the announcement last week.
Daniels noted that the amusing thing about it is that you become more aware of your creativity the more you practice this new dynamic kickoff. You become aware of the potential minefield it might create and the extent of the weekly personnel turnover it can cause. You experience extreme excitement. Conversely, though, it is also possible to get a little bit cautious at the same moment.
Daniels grinned and responded, “100% of it,” when asked how much of his inventiveness would be on show during last Saturday’s preseason game versus the Browns. It’s all going to be available. The Vikings kicked seven times that day, and five of them ended up in the end zone. The Browns recovered three of the four that resulted in touchbacks.
Tackle that drops the hips: Nothing to observe here
Former and present players, coaches, and officials were greatly disturbed by the NFL owners’ decision to outlaw the hip-drop tackle. Their concerns ranged from what a legitimate tackle might look like in the future to whether referees would be able to spot infractions in real-time.
Several anticipated mitigating variables, such as strong hints from NFL officials that fouls would probably be found by the league office and result in warning letters or fines via postgame inspections rather than through flags, were overwhelmed by those legitimate concerns.
The helmet rule, which forbade players from making forced contact with their face masks or helmets when they were originally introduced in 2018, has been enforced by the league using the same strategy. That probably explains why, thus far in the preseason, not a single penalty has been called for a hip-drop tackle. If and when a penalty is called, spectators won’t likely notice it because officials will probably announce it with a generic name.
The most Important rule
The rule’s focus on the most obvious method the hip-drop indicator can be seen is another reason it has remained mainly invisible: Player unloads by turning, lowering his hips and/or lower body. Falling on the runner’s leg(s) at or below the knee, and trapping the runner. Put another way, for it to be considered a foul.
The player must not use his feet as leverage to bring down the ball carrier. It will still be considered a legitimate tackle attempt if the player attempts to bring down an opponent player while still on his feet or on the ground using the same method.
Guardian Caps are less common than new helmet styles
The NFL extended its mandate for Guardian Caps foam padding, which fastens to the outside of helmets. To all positions aside from quarterbacks and specialists during training camp, following two years of restricted usage. Additionally, it permitted participants to wear them during plays for the first time.
The NFL and the NFL Players Association decided to remove any players who wear one of six helmet styles that they believe offer protection that is either equivalent to or superior to Guardian Caps as part of that rule adjustment. According to Jeff Miller, the NFL’s executive vice president for communications, public affairs, and policy. About 200 players have made the transition to one of those models this summer.
Throughout the preseason, a few players have donned Guardian Caps. Due to earlier research indicating a disproportionate number of concussions were sustained during training camp and offseason activities in past years. The Guardian Cap responsibility is concentrated on those activities.
Replays had a quiet preseason
The NFL London is rolling out replays bit by bit this year. In particular, it will let replay officials examine two more components of the play. If the game clock has run out before a snap, additionally. If a quarterback is knocked down by a hit or steps out of bounds before a pass.
Though neither option appears to have been employed this summer, in a broader sense. They signify the league’s current replay strategy. The owners have rejected requests to allow reviews of every play. Except for a one-year pass interference trial in 2019. They are gradually expanding penalty flag options and using video assist programs to promptly inform referees of errors. Ensuring clear and unambiguous situations when calls should be overturned.

Jacksonville the NFL 2024 regular season begins on September 8 at Hard Rock Stadium with the Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the Miami Dolphins. Owner Shad Khan has stated twice that he expects the Jaguars to win now, despite spending $492.75 million ($249.9 million fully secured) in the offseason to sign new contracts with Trevor Lawrence, Tyson Campbell, and Josh Hines-Allen.

Since joining the Jaguars in 2021, Lawrence claims this is the team’s most talented roster. The group selected wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. in the NFL draft and Gabe Davis in free agency.
A bit flashback
The Jaguars were successful immediately, making four postseason appearances in their first five appearances, including two trips to the AFC Championship in 1996 and 1999. The team has had ups and downs, including times when they had to rebuild and struggle, despite their early success. But the Jaguars made a comeback to prominence in 2017 thanks to a potent defence, and they once again won the AFC Championship. Their history is characterized by ardent fan support and a commitment to long-term NFL success.
The Dolphins gained immediate fame, going 17-0 and earning Super Bowl VII in 1972 the NFL’s only perfect season. They continue to be one of the most renowned clubs in the league, known for their rich past that includes the Marino era. Trevor Lawrence, the first overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars after a stellar collegiate career at Clemson University.
Lawrence’s leadership, calmness, and powerful arm made him a game-changing player. Thomas, a standout receiver in college football, impressed with his stature, quickness, and contested-catch skills, making him a valuable addition to the NFL’s top football programs. By Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, the squad will be decreased to 53 players. For the Jaguars, here is a projection:
Quaterbacks (2):
Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones
After signing a new five-year, $275 million contract, Lawrence is under even more pressure in his third season. C.J. Beathard is anticipated to join the Jaguars practice squad following his groin injury sustained in the second training game. With the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence, a strong quarterback prospect, was acquired by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Lawrence’s remarkable arm power, accuracy, and leadership set him out as a vital member of the Jaguars’ long-term strategy following his stellar college career at Clemson University.
Running Back (4):
Tank Bigsby, D’Ernest Johnson, Jalen Jackson, Travis Etienne Jr
Keilan Robinson, a fifth-round selection, is a possibility for one of the two newly available injured reserve places due to a toe injury (players do not need to make the 53-man roster in order to be placed on IR; they can return during the season). Robinson was still wearing a protective boot last week. Right now, they have no idea what they have in him. Villanova rookie Jackson, who was not selected in the draft, has shown promise this summer.
Wide Receivers (6):
Christian Kirk, Tim Jones, Gabe Davis, Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, Devin Duvernay
Although Thomas’ camp started shakily, he has since progressively strengthened and was the offensive standout of Tampa Bay’s joint sessions. Among the players with the most improvement on the team is Washington. Jones and Elijah Cooks are in contention for the final position, and Jones is chosen due to his special team’s prowess.
In the unlikely event that the Jaguars decide to maintain seven receivers, Cooks may wind up on the practice team, which would leave them lacking a running back. You may also read: FL London, clubs are vying for championship
Tight Ends (3):
Evan Engram, Brenton Strange, Luke Farrell
Travis Kelce (203), the lone tight end, has more catches than Engram (187) over the last two seasons. Strange had just five receptions in his debut season as a second-round choice in 2023, but the Jaguars say they’re determined to give him more opportunities in the offence.
Offensive Line (10):
Cooper Hodges, Cam Robinson, Cole Van Lanen, Brandon Scherff, Walker Little, Ezra Cleveland, Mitch Morse, Anton Harrison, Javon Foster, Luke Fortner
The health of Cleveland and Scherff, the guards, is still a concern as Morse assumes the centre position. Especially in short yardage, the Jaguars’ inability to run the ball effectively last season was primarily due to that inner weakness. That did have some bearing on injuries, but as of right now, all five starters are healthy.
Linebackers (6):
Ventrell Miller, Foyesade Oluokun, Caleb Johnson, Chad Muma, Yasir Abdullah Devin Lloyd
Oluokun will continue to call the defence from the weakside linebacker even if Lloyd shifts into the middle. As a strongside linebacker, Muma appears to fit in better with the defence under new coach Ryan Nielsen. Miller will be useful in the rotation but mostly on special teams if he can maintain his health. Abdullah, a rookie who saw limited action in the previous season, may see time as a pass rusher.
Defensive LineBack (9):
Arik Armstead, Roy Robertson-Harris, Josh Hines-Allen, Maason Smith, Travon Walker, Tyler Lacy, DaVon Hamilton, Trevis Gipson, Jordan Jefferson
With Hamilton’s (back) return to health, this is maybe the deepest position group. Walker, Hines-Allen, and Armstead who spent most of the camp on PUP give the Jaguars a strong set of pass rushers, but it’s unclear where the rest of the line will produce. The most outstanding defensive rookie thus far is Smith.
Cornerback (5):
Tyson Campbell, De’Antre Prince, Jarrian Jones, Christian Braswell, Ronald Darby
Just before camp, Campbell inked a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension. He was a standout player in 2022 but had a disappointing 2023 due to a hamstring injury. With Nielsen’s defence requiring a lot of man coverage, Campbell and Darby will have a lot of pressure to perform well, especially since Braswell has been one of the defence’s strongest players.
Safties (5):
Andre Cisco, Terrell Edmunds, Darnell Savage, Antonio Johnson
In addition to playing safety depending on the situation and rotation, Savage is the main nickel back. Johnson will also play safety. The Jaguars want to see Cisco improve before giving him a contract extension. The final year of his professional deal is currently upon him.
Tashaun Gipson Sr. has been placed on the reserve/suspended list by the Jaguars, and he will miss the initial six matches of the season due to a knee injury. The team will also apply the new inactive roster rule concerning Andrew Wingard.
Specialist (3):
Logan Cooke, Ross Matiscik, Cam Little
Early in the camp, Little defeated Riley Patterson for the job. Cooke is the only punter with more punts within the 10-yard line (70) since entering the league in 2018, and Matiscik is coming off a Pro Bowl season.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has led the team to three Super Bowl victories in the last five years, making them the lone constant in recent years. Three straight Super Bowl victories are unheard of, and the Chiefs’ opponents are preparing to confront them. Several aspirational teams led by outstanding young quarterbacks are joining the fray to challenge the Chiefs.
Here’s a quick look at each of the 32 NFL teams, along with their odds of winning the championship this year, arranged according to their regular-season performance from 2023.
Kansas City Chiefs (11-6)
Merely two overtime losses have kept the NFL’s newest dynasty from making it to the final six straight Super Bowls, of which they have participated in three and won three. Their continued dominance stems from head coach Andy Reid’s ability to flawlessly balance the rest of the team and help quarterback Patrick Mahomes. A new wave of supporters in Wales could follow them if Louis Rees-Zammit secures a roster slot, in addition to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift keeping them in the news off the field.
San Francisco 49ers (12-5)
This is the 49ers’ second Super Bowl loss in four years, and they still have one of the most talented and balanced teams in the NFL despite blowing a 10-point lead against the Chiefs. But, their “window” for success may be closing quickly due to contract issues.
Detroit Lions (12-5)
They are now legitimate challengers after spending decades in the wilderness. lost a 17-point lead in the NFC championship game, but head coach Dan Campbell’s comeback has them aiming for their first Super Bowl participation.
Buffalo Bills (11-6)
They are still among the greatest teams in the league, but their ability to advance is limited by their three straight play-off losses to the Chiefs. This is especially true given that Josh Allen will be without his two best receivers and that their division will be much more competitive in 2024.
Baltimore Ravens (13-4)
An agonizing home loss to the Chiefs kept the team that was by far the best of the regular season from earning a Super Bowl spot. They tried to go one better with their MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and their formidable running back Derrick Henry.
Miami Dolphins (11-6)
Their season fizzled out after a scorching start, and they lost a chilly play-off game against Kansas City, prolonging their wait for their first postseason triumph since 2000. They will win a lot of games, but the results are still inconclusive because only one of their 11 wins came against a team with a winning record.
Keep eye on: Tyreek Hill Ever confident, speedy receiver Hill says he could defeat Olympic 100-meter winner Noah Lyles in a race. He can really score from anyplace.
Houston Texans (10-7)
Last season, this fascinating team featured the best rookies on the offensive and defensive lines, in CJ Stroud and Will Anderson, who led them to an exciting play-off run. It’s a wise decision to add Stefon Diggs, a talented receiver, to help Stroud avoid the infamous “sophomore slump.” Now they’ll be entertaining to watch.
Green Bay Packers (9-8)
The NFL’s youngest team went 6-2 to qualify for the playoffs, defeated Dallas, and then narrowly lost in San Francisco, giving quarterback Jordan Love a lucrative new contract and head trainer Matt LaFleur some much-needed recognition. They will also get better this year.
Dallas Cowboys (12-5)
Only five post-season games have been won by Dallas since their last Super Bowl victory in 1996, despite them being the NFL’s top scorers and having completed a third straight 12-win season. Although quarterback Dak Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy’s team is in the bottom half of the standings this year, they still have a talented squad.
Keep an eye on: Micah Parsons Parsons is a freak athlete with exceptional football talent; few defensive players can run games. He impacts games from wherever he lines up.
Cleveland Browns (11-6)
With five different quarterbacks starting for a team beset by injuries a feat not seen in 40 years Cleveland advanced to the postseason thanks to a dominant defense captained by Myles Garrett. They’ll have top-notch defense once more; all they need is more from quarterback Deshaun Watson to be a real contender.
Player to watch: Deshaun Watson
Watson received a $230 million fully guaranteed contract from Cleveland in 2022, but he has only appeared in 12 games and has only displayed glimpses of his potential. This year, that needs to change.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-8)
Following four consecutive post-season appearances, they should arguably be given a little more respect than they currently receive in most rankings after crushing the Eagles and matching the Lions for three quarters before edging into the play-offs by winning a dreadful division.
Los Angeles Rams (10-7)
While losing to Detroit by one point in the play-offs was difficult, losing Aaron Donald possibly the best defense in NFL history to retirement will be far more difficult. Matthew Stafford should not be written out since he still has a lot of football left in him and they did win everything a few years ago.
Player to watch: Puka Nacua
If healthy, he should break rookie receiving records again this year after setting a record-setting 181-yard performance in the playoffs.
New York Jets (7-10)
If anything, the anticipation is more than it was the previous season following Aaron Rodgers’ injury four plays into the game. With one final chance for the 40-year-old quarterback, there is no longer any margin for error. With a strong defense and a plethora of skill surrounding him, the stage is set for a Super Bowl run.
Keep an eye on: Aaron Rodgers And anybody else? The Jets have assembled a fantastic team, but Rodgers must perform at a high level for the entire campaign for the team to succeed.
Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7)
Although new quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are not a major improvement over the team from last year, head coach Mike Tomlin managed to keep his record of never having a losing season. This season, they will play like a traditional Pittsburgh club, with a strong defense and a potent offense.
Player to watch: TJ Watt
TJ Watt, who became the first player in the NFL to lead in official sacks for three consecutive seasons, is a significant contributor to any success for Pittsburgh and causes absolute havoc.
Philadelphia Eagles (11-6)
After a 10-1 start, the Eagles faltered, dropping five of their final six games before being humiliated by the Bucs in the playoffs, leaving head coach Nick Sirianni hanging on. We should anticipate a comeback from this team, which is still incredibly talented. That was a major surprise.
In two seasons that he finished, Joe Burrow made it to one Super Bowl and nearly made it to another, so the Bengals are competitive when he plays a full season. The Bengals failed to make the playoffs the previous season due to his seven-game suspension.
Keep an eye on: Joe Burrow
His talent is only surpassed by his enormous confidence and swagger, but the wrist issue will be a major concern.
Indianapolis Colts (9-8)
Though he was impressive at times as a rushing threat in his four games as a rookie quarterback last season, the big question limiting expectations is whether or not Anthony Richardson can remain healthy for the entire campaign.
Keep an eye on: Jonathan Taylor
Despite injuries and contract disputes throughout the last two seasons, the 2021 running champion appears poised to make a return this season.
New Orleans Saints (9-8)
With one of the oldest teams in the league and limited flexibility over the summer owing to salary cap concerns, the Saints were a true puzzle team that finished with a +75 point difference but was unable to win the tight games.
Player to watch: Derek Carr
Similar to their wage cap, their $150 million quarterback ended well but mostly against weak opponents, leaving him little leeway before pressure mounts on his position.
Jacksonville Jaguars (9-8)
The Jaguars were another club to falter; they dropped five of their final six games, giving Houston the division title and missing the playoffs entirely. To make sure that doesn’t happen again, the focus has been on strengthening defense.
Player to watch: Trevor Lawrence
The Jaguars gave their top overall draft pick a large new contract this summer, but he has to earn it. He has been reliable but unspectacular in his first three seasons.
Seattle Seahawks (9-8)
Although Seattle’s new head coach, Mike Macdonald, is 37 years old, and he assembled a formidable defense against Baltimore, the team appears to be rebuilding after losing 72-year-old Pete Carroll.
Keep an eye on: DK Metcalf To assist quarterback Geno Smith improve his play once more, their enormous receiver needs to put on more commanding performances.
Denver Broncos (8-9)
Coach Sean Payton saw success with eight wins, but as they continue to battle to make up for the Russell Wilson experiment gone awry, it seems to be the ceiling once more. The defense was a major problem the previous season, and it’s unclear where they’ll get better.
Keep an eye on: Bo Nix
first-round selection in the draft Following Peyton Manning’s departure in 2016, Bo Nix has been named Denver’s thirteenth starting quarterback. Payton and he ought to get along well, but don’t hold yourself too high.
Las Vegas Raiders (8-9)
The Raiders are trying to find their way, and young head coach Antonio Pierce is concentrating on defense. With Gardner Minshew at quarterback, who is entertaining, the team should produce some highlights in what looks to be another difficult season in Vegas.
Player to watch: Davante Adams
If Minshew can get him the ball, this true superstar receiver can still create magic.
Chicago Bears (7-10)
Chicago, another team riding the hype wave, has stacked its offensive line with top choice Caleb Williams in hopes of bringing the Bears’ 14-year playoff drought to an end. In Chicago, supporters find it difficult to control themselves.
Keep an eye on: Caleb Williams
Although he might not be the dominant quarterback right away, he possesses the skill, flair, and character to be Chicago’s first true star.

It is said to win titles. Which teams, then, will shut out their rivals NFL London 2024? We have ranked every defence from best to worst and predicted how they would perform. For the 2023 season, the Las Vegas Raiders placed seventh overall with a defensive efficiency rating that varies more annually than offensive. Apart from facing rival quarterbacks, interceptions, injuries, and bad luck, the team faced several more problems.

1. New York Jets
They have performed well over the past two seasons, and in 2024, I don’t see it stopping. Williams Quincy and Mosley. And Quinnen Williams is one of their top defensive players in the NFL. The Jets did not have extraordinary injury or turnover luck, which tends to regress from season to season. That being said, nothing about what we observed the previous year was erratic.
Although he has asked to be traded and hasn’t been to training camp for several months after being transferred from Philadelphia to New York, the Haason Reddick issue still looms large over them as of this writing. Nonetheless, their defense still appears to be quite good given the quality already on the roster.
2. Baltimore Ravens
There are only five teams that produced more expected points added on takeaways than the 2023 Ravens, who had the eighth-best defensive season of the 20th century. They lost Mike Macdonald, their defensive mastermind, and Zach Orr took his place.
3. Cleveland Browns
Many of the defensive coordinators of the new school place the utmost importance on stopping explosive plays. But Jim Schwartz, the defensive coordinator for the Browns, is a traditionalist. My appreciation for this retro-style play goes out to my fellow seniors. It reached second place under Schwartz’s leadership last season.
They include defensive linemen like Myles Garrett, the 2023 NFL London Defensive Player of the Year, who are capable of taking down opponents. Their terrible injury luck and weakest red zone defence contributed to last season’s excellent performance. The Browns might be successful in 2024 if the league average rises.
4. Seattle Seahawks
Pete Carroll’s Seahawks can get better even though their last season wasn’t great. The Ravens advanced from 28th in 2021 to ninth in 2022 under head coach Mike Macdonald, a gifted defensive playcaller and creative leader. The Baltimore defence scored first last season. This emphasizes how crucial it is to recognize and put into place effective defences.
Seattle’s Seahawks have invested in Byron Murphy II, Uchenna Nwosu, Dre’Mont Jones, and Leonard Williams, and acquired linebacker and safety players. Despite initial setbacks, the team is expected to improve and become one of the league’s biggest shocks.
5. Dallas Cowboys
Despite Quinn’s team placing seventh in defensive efficiency the previous season, the Cowboys appointed Mike Zimmer as their new defensive coordinator. With five top-10 defences and four top-5 defences in eight seasons, Zimmer has an outstanding track record. Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Jourdan Lewis are among the Cowboys’ talented defensive players, despite their lacklustre linebackers. It is anticipated that these players working together will cause major disruption.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers
This season, the Steelers should be successful thanks to their combination of safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and edge defender T.J. Watt. They have a formidable defence, and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and former Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen could have big careers ahead of them. Their EPA on takeaways increased to the fourth-highest despite taxing their depth.
The Texan’s defence, which ranked 16th in effectiveness the previous season, has had a substantial amount of turnover. Under head trainer DeMeco Ryans, who has led the squad to top-five defences in each of his prior seasons, the team has enhanced from 28th to 16th in their debut season. A major upgrade is anticipated in NFL London 2024.
8. Chicago Bears
Chicago’s defence improved to tenth in achievement rate and 6th in EPA per attempt with the arrival of edge player Montez Sweat. Tremaine Edmunds, Tyrique Stevenson, Kyler Gordon, Jaylon Johnson, and T.J. Edwards are important players. The performance of the team may be impacted by young talent and regression issues.
9. Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have addressed a weakness at cornerback by trading veteran Carlton Davis III, signing Amik Robertson, and using first-round picks on Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. The team’s improved positional unit could lead to a top-10 defence ranking in 2024. Detroit’s depth is limited, with edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson and defensive tackle Alim McNeill being key players. Brian Branch is the only sure thing in the secondary, with potential improvements.
10. Kansas City Chiefs
With Chris Jones, quality linebackers, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs boast one of the greatest defensive lineups since Patrick Mahomes took over. Nevertheless, they had the fourth-best injury luck of any defence and lost All-Pro cornerback L’Jarius Sneed in the deal. The Chiefs still can field a powerful defence despite these worries.
12. Minnesota Vikings
Last year, the NFL London’s 11th-best defensive performance was the result of Brian Flores’ defensive philosophy. He came up with a clever plan, blitzing and releasing only three rushers at high percentages while sending the usual four rushers somewhat infrequently. The Vikings have strength in the front seven and an improved pass-rush unit compared to the previous season. Despite the team’s high offseason turnover, Flores has faith that he can put the pieces together.
13. Jacksonville Jaguars
The fact that the Jaguars’ defence finished the 2017 NFL season rated 10th should come as a surprise to many. It may even surprise head coach Doug Pederson, who replaced coordinator Mike Caldwell with Ryan Nielsen, the Falcons defence’s 2023 coordinator, after firing Caldwell.
Up front, the Jaguars have some talent. Josh Hines-Allen, an edge rusher who finished the season with 17.5 sacks, was brought back. The most anticipated 2022 draft pick, Travon Walker, had maybe the most understated 10-sack year in NFL history.
Additionally, Jacksonville brought in versatile San Francisco defensive tackle Arik Armstead. The Jaguars have severe problems at cornerback, so general supervisor Trent Baalke has thrown a lot of strength into the front seven, which will have to carry the team. I believe there is enough here overall for a defence that is marginally above average.
14. Las Vegas Raiders
Maxx Crosby, an edge defender for the Raiders, and Christian Wilkins, a defensive tackle, provide a solid base for the team. Last season’s success is attributed to defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. That team’s five defensive touchdowns and second-best injury luck from the previous season might not be repeated in 2024, though. The defence is predicted to regress from the previous year but still be strong, with the Raiders’ cornerback position being a major worry.
15. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles’ defence suffered in 2017 and ranked 29th in terms of effectiveness. Vic Fangio’s coaching takeover from Matt Patricia was a big move for the team, but their high turnover rate and string of injuries have made them a high-variance group. The Eagles have a high degree of unpredictability, thus even though they could perform better than this ranking, there is still uncertainty.
16. New York Giants
17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa had their lowest placing in the previous five years when they finished 14th in the previous season. However, I believe they will finish below average this year, partly due to the departure of some key players this offseason, including cornerback Carlton Davis, linebacker Devin White, and edge defender Shaq Barrett. With veteran linebacker Lavonte David, versatile safety Antoine Winfield Jr., and defensive linemen Vita Vea and Calijah Kancey.
This club still has talent. However, the Bucs’ pass rush worries me. In the NFL London, the Bucs produced pressure just 28.2 per cent of the time when they didn’t blitz last season, which ranked 29th. Although I am concerned about the problems at pass rush and corner, I think the floor is high for this bunch. It wouldn’t be shocking if there was a small retreat.
19. New England Patriots
Although the Patriots were sixth in protective performance the year before, they ended the season 4-13 under head coach Bill Belichick. Out of all defences, the Patriots had the lowest EPA gained on takeaways and the worst injury luck. Not skill. But rather the fit of the components was what made the team successful last year. To strengthen the Patriots’ game-planning and strategizing, they will require defensive assistant DeMarcus Covington and new head coach Jerod Mayo.
20. Los Angeles Chargers
I want to believe that the Charger’s defense will surprise people this season, primarily because of the potential of Jim Harbaugh and new coordinator Jesse Minter, but when I look at the depth chart, I can’t help but think that the team will field a mediocre defence under great coaching.
Last year, the Chargers’ defence ranked 26th. This offseason, the Chargers were limited in their options and were unable to make a major addition to the squad. Along with safety Derwin James, they still have some talented edge rushers in Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, but overall, I think this team is still a year away from being good.
21. Green Bay Packers
The Packers’ new coordinator, Jeff Hafley, is anticipated to have a big influence on this year’s Super Bowl. Under Joe Barry, the Packers, who are infamous for undervaluing their potential, were 27th in terms of defensive efficiency the previous season. Green Bay has talent at safety and cornerback, and their pass-rush squad is underestimated. If Hafley is an awful defensive coordinator, the Packers could improve substantially from the previous season.
22. New Orleans Saints
Former defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has had difficulty improving New Orleans’ defensive effectiveness; the team placed 15th in the league the previous season. The Saints were 10th in EPA gained on takeaways and had the fifth-best injury luck. Although they are skilled linebackers and corners, their pass rush is a weakness.
The Saints might benefit from their recent draft selections and free agency additions, but they’ll probably fall even more. Secure your NFL London Tickets now to be part of this unforgettable experience.
23. Denver Broncos
Anthony Weaver, who started the season rated 31st in efficiency, took over for Vic Fangio as the head of the Miami Dolphins defence. Following season-ending injuries to Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, the Dolphins have contemplated signing both players but have allowed Christian Wilkins to go free. Although these are large ifs, the team could benefit from better injury and turnover luck. Injured players who return early in the season could help the Dolphins advance.
24. Indianapolis Colts
A defence under the direction of Gus Bradley rarely surprises. They also played zone the most frequently. Indianapolis’ defence finished the 2017 season ranked 20th thanks to that formula.
Bradley’s favoured style of play is OK for talented players, but this group lacks talent. And in camp, edge defender Samson Ebukam who finished the previous season with a team-high 9.5 sacks suffered an Achilles injury that ended his season. If the Colts want their pass rush to be above average, they probably need Laiatu Latu, their first-round pick, to have an immediate impact. All things considered, this appears to be a group that needs to regress.
25. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons, under the direction of Raheem Morris, play mediocre defence and have a weak pass rush. They acquired Grady Jarrett, who sustained an ACL injury, and 32-year-old Matthew Judon, who had a torn bicep. With Justin Simmons and Jessie Bates in the secondary, there is a greater opportunity, but there are concerns in other areas.
26. Carolina Panthers
Instead of letting linebacker Frankie Luvu depart in free agency, they dealt edge defender Brian Burns. Many veterans, notably Jadeveon Clowney, were added by the Panthers. They are undoubtedly poorer than last season, though, in terms of talent. They also did not perform well the previous year, coming in at 25th in efficiency.
But it’s fair to say that the Panthers’ injury luck won’t be nearly as bad as it was the previous season when they had the lowest EPA on takeaways and the second-worst defence luck. Thus, a little bit luckier, but with less talent. Which brings us to our current situation. Slightly outside of the previous season’s range. The floor is low here, though, because of the lack of talent.
27. Arizona Cardinals
The defensive coordinator for the Cowboys, Dan Quinn, has a proven track record of leading his team to top-five defence efficiency each season. But a dearth of quality and a transitional era means that the team’s ceiling is limited. The team has problems at edge rusher and secondary, but its defensive tackle tandem of Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen, as well as playmaking linebacker Frankie Luvu, are among its best. There are concerns about Quinn’s leadership and prospective risers.
