The highly regarded fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is a fearsome force in international cricket due to his extraordinary speed, swing, and height. On April 3, 2018, he made his debut for Pakistan in the T20 International format against the West Indies. In an ODI against Afghanistan, he made his debut on September 21, 2018.

He played his first Test match against New Zealand on December 3, 2018. Shaheen made an immediate impression on Pakistan’s bowling staff by demonstrating his ability to take early wickets and provide critical support. His two most notable matches were in the 2019 Cricket World Cup, where he took the most wickets for Pakistan, and the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. He took five wickets against India, which was crucial to Pakistan’s historic victory over their bitter rivals.

The world’s Fast bowlers

He has become one of the top fast bowlers in the world today thanks to his professional trajectory. He has been characterized by tremendous advancement and multiple awards. Shaheen is a key player in the future of Pakistan cricket because of his skill with the new ball and his reliable performances in all formats.

The Decisive Victory

Co-hosts of the T20 World Cup With a decisive 28-run victory over South Africa their largest margin of victory against them when they bat first West Indies made a strong start to their final tournament preparations. Whilst several players were rested or were still in the IPL. Neither side was able to field their preferred starting eleven. West Indies fans will be happy with their home dominance.

Especially considering that this was the first international match played at Sabina Park in nearly two years. In place of Rovman Powell leading the way, native Brandon King set the tone with a powerful 45-ball 79.  Alongside Kyle Mayers, who is not on the T20 World Cup roster, he shared a score of 79 runs at the second wicket.

The Mainstay as the West Indies Laid

King was the mainstay as the West Indies laid a strong foundation. Bycoring 64 for 1 in the power game and 109 for 1 at the halfway stage. But between the 14th and the final over, they dropped 6 for 40, finishing at 175 for 8. With their bowling resurgence, especially the early indications from Ottneil Baartman, South Africa will have been heartened. In his T20I debut, Baartman got rid of Johnson Charles quickly, but ten balls in.

He appeared to have a niggle in his left knee and stopped in mid-stride. Still, he got through the over and finished with 3 for 26. Andile Phehlukwayo, an all-arounder, also claimed three wickets in his four overs allotted. In the fifth over, South Africa’s much-discussed top order was reduced to 35 for 3, and neither Ryan Rickelton nor Quinton de Kock reached double figures. With the latter finding it difficult to locate the boundary.

In the first ten overs, South Africa struck eight fours and one six, while the West Indies hit seven fours and eight sixes. Reeza Hendricks scored a career-best 87 off 51 balls. But it was too little, too late, as South Africa required 99 runs off the final 10 overs.

South Africa was too far behind and was eventually bowled for 147 in the last over thanks to wickets taken by Gudakesh Motie (3 for 25) and Obed McCoy (2 for 15). You may also like: Will T20 World Cup 2024 spur a Maxwell comeback?

King Brandon

King led the West Indies to a victory at Sabina Park by dominating South Africa up front in his debut game as captain of the national team on his home field. He used the fact that there was a maximum strike in the opening three overs. Including three fours and two sixes, he faced 16 of the 18 balls and scored 28.

Charles, in comparison, had seen just two balls and was yet to score a run. Baartman lost his maiden wicket in an international match to Charles. But King went on to register his fastest T20I fifty in just 26 balls and was almost at his highest in a match marked by creative movement at the crease that included baring his stumps.

In the end, Phehlukwayo profited from King creating space when he put down a full. Wide ball that King had to reach for and toe-ended it to van der Dussen. He was running from the covers to his right. King was out for 79 after the eleventh over, six less than his T20 international cricket career best.

The middle order of the West Indies gives way

After King’s opening innings, West Indies ought to have been targeting a total beyond 200. But their middle order was unable to sustain the early runs scored by their acting captain. Nobody from Andre Fletcher down managed to score in double figures. Except Matthew Forde, who had the most points outside the top four with five.

Both Fletcher and Fabian Allen were guilty of being bowled and stumped leg before wicket, respectively. After trying to play Phehlukwayo over the boundary. While Baartman’s variations deceived Forde and Akeal Hosein. ODI pulled a knuckleball square of the wicket, and a wobbly seam delivery bowled Hosein. After Motie was out on the final ball of the session. The West Indies ended the last part of their innings at 6 for 40.

Forde’s first

After de Kock hit his first ball for four in his debut T20 international encounter against England in December. Forde might have wondered if he was meant to chase leather again. By given his numbers of 0 for 54 in that match. De Kock hit Forde squarely in the lower body with an exceptionally well-timed stroke that required no footwork at all.

However, the youthful West Indian had the ideal counterargument. De Kock failed to shift his feet once more and nicked behind on his subsequent ball. It was wide of off stump. De Kock, who ended his ODI career in November of last year. He had only managed fifty-three runs in thirty innings (all in T20s) before being removed for four. His best score from his previous five trips to the crease was twelve.

Another half-century for Hendricks

Remarkably, Hendricks scored four straight fifty-score runs in the lead-up.. But he was left off of South Africa’s 2022 T20 World Cup starting XI. As he was unable to unseat skipper Temba Bavuma. He should, however, be able to begin the competition this time around for no apparent reason. In an underwhelming South African batting display, his 87 was the highlight of his innings.

It was his 10th T20 half-century of 2024 and his 49th career. With a score of higher than 20, he was the only player. His early ball timing and late, though not enough, power-hitting to get South Africa over the finish line. These were the highlights of his play.

Australia vs England T20 World Cup 2024: Hazlewood Supports Fraser-McGurk Despite Snub

In the lead-up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Australian pace sensation Josh Hazlewood has thrown his weight behind teammate Jake Fraser-McGurk, expressing confidence in the young talent’s future prospects in the national team, despite his omission from the squad.

The selection controversy surrounding Fraser-McGurk and the absence of Steve Smith from the final fifteen players chosen by Australia’s selectors have stirred discussions ahead of the tournament in the Caribbean.

Hazlewood’s Confidence in Fraser-McGurk:

Hazlewood acknowledges Fraser-McGurk’s impressive performances in the IPL 2024, where the 22-year-old has left a mark with three half-centuries, amassing a total of 259 runs at an impressive average of 43.16 and a striking rate of 158.56 in his initial six innings. Despite the challenges posed by Australia’s strong top and middle-order lineup, Hazlewood remains optimistic about Fraser-McGurk’s eventual inclusion in the national squad, praising his unique batting approach and ball-striking abilities.

Smith’s Unfortunate Omission:

Reflecting on Steve Smith’s absence from the T20 World Cup squad, Hazlewood expresses regret, citing Smith’s invaluable leadership experience and adeptness in handling spin conditions. He emphasizes Smith’s versatile contributions, not only in batting but also in fielding, suggesting that the circumstances might have hindered his selection despite his prowess, particularly evident in his performances for the Sixers in the BBL.

Hazlewood’s IPL Absence: Australia Vs England

Hazlewood sheds light on his own absence from the IPL 2024, attributing it to his prioritization of family commitments, notably his son’s birth. Despite his non-participation in the IPL, Hazlewood remained prepared for a potential call-up as an injury replacement, highlighting his dedication to maintaining his form even during his time at home.

Australia vs England: The Clash of Titans in the Upcoming T20 World Cup

Hazlewood’s support for Fraser-McGurk amidst the T20 World Cup 2024 snub underscores the competitive dynamics within the Australian cricket fraternity, while also shedding light on the challenges and considerations faced by selectors and players alike in shaping the national squad for the prestigious tournament.

It will be captained by Rovman Powell and vice-captain Alzarri Joseph. Jason Holder, Andre Russell, and Nicholas Pooran have all been added to the team, and Alzarri Joseph has been chosen as Rovman Powell’s deputy.

Hetmyer was excluded

Due to his missing trip, Hetmyer was removed from the 2022 T20 World Cup roster. Before being benched for the last two T20 Internationals of the England series and being left out of the white-ball teams for the Australia tour, he participated in the series versus India and England in the previous year.

The West Indies, who triumphed in the T20 World Cup twice (in 2012 and 2016), have not performed well in the previous two competitions. With just one victory during the group stage, Kieron Pollard’s team in 2021 was unable to go past the first round. Under Nicholas Pooran’s leadership, they were unsuccessful in qualifying for the main round in Australia a year later.

Additionally, because they were unable to get past the qualifier, they were not eligible to play in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

Desmond Haynes stated

“To be absolutely clear, this is the team you hear us talking about today, and that is the team we think will win the World Cup.  Following the squad announcement, Desmond Haynes, the chairman of selectors for the West Indies, remarked.”

A final list will be formulated following the West Indies A tour of Nepal and the home T20 International series against South Africa, Hayes noted. Even though the selectors had already made a list of names for the reserves. The upcoming South Africa series will commence with a preparatory camp in Antigua starting next weekend. In addition, CWI has asked the BCCI to expeditiously remove West Indies players from the current IPL. According to the head coach of white-ball Sammy.

Shamar Joseph was included; why?

As Daren Sammy had emphasized, Haynes stated that the inclusion of Shamar and Hetmyer was role-specific. “According to Haynes, it’s difficult to doubt Shamar Joseph’s abilities. It was in Australia that you saw him. Someone up front was bowling the first powerplay, and he seemed to fit the bill.”

Among the West Indies players participating in the IPL is Shamar. He rose to fame with an incredible seven-wicket haul that enabled the team to secure a historic Test victory at the Gabba. The Lucknow Super Giants called him on as substitute. But he faltered and allowed the Kolkata Knight Riders to score 47 runs on his debut.  He has yet to claim a wicket in his three T20 matches while giving up 9.91 runs per over. Sammy claimed that selecting the team was “difficult” because there were other candidates to consider. One of them was Matthew Forde, a fast bowler who had a great 2023 CPL and made his debut for the West Indies versus England in the home white-ball series. But Sammy agreed with Haynes when he said Shamar had defeated Forde and other new ball contenders.

Daren Sammy Remarked

“Sammy claims that Shamar Joseph is quick and skilled with the new ball. It’s not that Matthew Forde doesn’t, but when you consider the role, it’s easier for us to choose the employees who will best fit it.”

Haynes: “Very close call between Hetmyer and Kyle Mayers. Haynes said that it was a very close call to go with Hetmyer against Kyle Mayers, who has often started the innings while also filling in as a competent medium-pace bowler. Having a finisher was more important to the selectors than possessing a top-order batsman such as Mayers, who currently plays for LSG in the IPL.”

Since there were other contenders to take into consideration, Sammy noted that choosing the team was “difficult”. Among them was Matthew Forde, an explosive bowler who made his first appearance for the West Indies against England in the nation’s white-ball series and had an outstanding 2023 Cricket Premier League season. However, Sammy concurred with Haynes that Shamar had dethroned Forde and other competitors for the new ball.

Team’s Spinners

Regarding the choice of the team’s lone offspinner, Roson Chase, Haynes underlined that his numbers demonstrated that he was not only the most effective bowler. But also a good all-around player capable of playing a similar role to Marlon Samuels’ over the West Indies’ T20 World Cup success. “Conversations with Narine” were had by Sammy.

Head coach Sammy of the West Indies responded, “Ever since I became coach, I have had discussions with all players who took part in the 2023 CPL that I thought could have an effect for us this World Cup,” when asked if Sunil Narine was in the running given his excellent all-around form in the ongoing IPL. I did speak with Narine. Nonetheless, Narine is retired, as the report made apparent.”

Sammy: Possess 15 X-factors

When the West Indies claimed the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. They did so with Sammy as their captain. These wins were aided by Johnson Charles and Russell. They earned his eagerly anticipated return to the West Indies squad during the Australia series in January. Sammy acknowledged that the chance to win a T20 World Cup at home and becoming the first side to do so inspired him.

When asked which player in the West Indies team he would single out as an X-factor, Sammy replied, “This time frame reminds me of the days when Phil Simmons or Ottis Gibson was the coach and I was the leader. When it comes to selection, you have a healthy performing team to choose from.”

“You consider all the options and determine which 15 players to start and which particular angles could provide you an advantage. There are fifteen of my X-factors. The world knows that we have matchwinners, as Dessie [Desmond Haynes] reminded me during the meeting.”
