In a recent press conference, Mastercard, the main sponsor of the Champions League, and Garanti BBVA Payment Systems, a significant player in the payment ecosystem, discussed the effects of the football competition on the national economy.

According to calculations by Mastercard and Garanti BBVA Payment Systems, the fans spent an average of 855 euros per person and stayed an average of three nights in the host cities.
According to the study, tourists’ weekend card spending in host cities climbed by 41% and 54% over the prior and subsequent weekends, respectively. Finals typically result in a 48% rise in tourist card spending in the host cities. Tourist spending is highest in the areas of lodging, dining, apparel, and health.
