Ross Miller, who cooperated with the team through the 2021 World Cup. And Steve Shingler has now been called as a junior tutor. Miller most recently headed the Scotland men’s Under-18 squad at the Six Nations. And returned to the women’s setup earlier this month. Former Scarlets fly-half Shingler arrives on loan from the PWR club Trailfinders.
He has served as an assistant coach over the last season. Ex-England winger Banahan definite he is definitely grateful for his time with Scotland. But explained the prospect of a new coaching job nearer to family was impossible to reject. Easson stated this does now provide an exciting chance to reboot and renew our coaching structure.
We brought Steve into training camp during this year’s Six Nations and were genuinely impressed with him then. We have various athletes at Trailfinders, among them some of our top offensive players. Ross has settled back in superbly with us. We’ve enjoyed a fantastic couple of weeks as a unit with him to date.

We’ve collaborated for years, and he performed excellently with us at the previous Rugby World Cup. I think he’s a superb asset to our team. He is well-acquainted with the squad and vice versa. On his transition, Banahan remarked. I cherished my tenure with Scotland, and I’m sincerely appreciative for the chance to instruct at the elite level. Yet the opportunity to accept.
A new schooling closer to my origins was desirable. I’m deeply proud of everything the squad has accomplished in the past two years. Especially their WXV2 crown in 2023. This group is truly exceptional, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed connecting with them both professionally and personally. I send them my wholehearted wishes for success at the Rugby World Cup.
Ross Miller is back in the national fold as Assistant Coach (forwards). Stepping in for Fraser Brown, who wrapped up his advisory post with the group after the 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations. A former Melrose rugby player, Miller provides stability and familiarity to the team. He cooperated with them before the 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
Recently, Miller achieved the Scotland Men U18 lateral at the Six Nations Centenary in April. He goes back into the women’s programme at the promotion of this pre-season stage. Joining Miller is Steve Shingler, who shoulders the role of Assistant Coach. He alternates with Matt Banahan, who opted to pursue another coaching pathway.

WRWC Tickets: Shingler Joins Scotland Women as Coaching Reset Begins
Shingler arrives temporarily from PWR’s Trailfinders Women. Where he had been an assistant coach this past term. Once a professional player, Shingler offers a broad spectrum of playing and mentoring expertise. He has represented clubs like Scarlets, London Irish, Cardiff, Mont-de-Marsan, and Ealing Trailfinders in a notable career as both a fly-half and centre.
Scotland Women’s head coach Bryan Easson said he appreciated Matt’s efforts for the team. There is no question that the attacking game has developed in the two years he’s been involved. Though, regrettably, he won’t join us for the Rugby World Cup. We honour his choice to accept an offer nearer to home and extend our best regards.
This situation now opens a fresh window to revamp and recharge our coaching strategy. We appreciate Trailfinders Women for collaborating with us to integrate Steve into our circle. Introduced Steve to camp this year. We were quite impressed by his work. Numerous players at Trailfinders, including key attackers, already share a solid link with him.
They grasp his style. That will ease this adjustment phase. Ross has adapted brilliantly again with us. We’ve had an amazing few weeks as a unit. We’ve partnered for a long time. He was wonderful with us at the earlier Rugby World Cup. I view him as an excellent addition. He knows our players well, and they’re comfortable with him too.

WRWC 2025 Tickets: Banahan Departs, Proud Easson Eyes Fresh Start
On his move, Matt Banahan shared that he loved his time with Scotland. He felt extremely thankful for the ability to guide at a global level. But he couldn’t pass on the opportunity to work closer to home. He is immensely proud of the group’s milestones in the last two years. Including the WXV2 triumph in 2023. He feels this is an outstanding collective.
And loved building relationships with them. Both on the field and off it. He offered his warmest wishes for their journey in the Rugby World Cup and beyond. Scotland Women head coach Bryan Easson repeated that he was thankful to Matt for his input with the team. There’s no denying that their offensive strategies progressed under his leadership.
Even though it’s disappointing, he will not continue into the Rugby World Cup. The team respects his move for a job based nearer home. They wish him continued success. Easson added that this phase brings a strong moment to reshape and energise the coaching panel. He also thanked Trailfinders Women for making it possible to welcome Steve into their setup.
Steve had joined during the Six Nations earlier this year and made a solid impression. Several Trailfinders players, including leading attackers, already trust and understand Steve. This connection will help make the integration process seamless. Ross has also fit in well. Their past few weeks together have been outstanding.
