For the men’s team, Canada will be represented by Steven Dubois, Jordan Pierre-Gilles, Félix Roussel, and Philippe Daudelin, each bringing their unique strengths and experiences to the competition. The women’s lineup features Danaé Blais, Kim Boutin, Rikki Doak, and Qi Miao, all of whom are poised to showcase their skills and determination on the international stage. Together, these athletes embody the spirit of Canadian short track speed skating as they aim for success in upcoming events.Canadian Short Track Team Gears Up for New Season

Rising Stars and Established Talents Prepare for Success

At just 19 years old, Qi will make her debut on the main circuit after claiming the title of Canadian junior champion last November. Daudelin will start the season with the national team after participating in the last Winter Olympic World Cups.  The rest of the men’s team is well-known, featuring the talented athletes Dubois, Dandjinou, Roussel, and Pierre-Gilles, who finished an impressive second, third, fifth, and seventh in last season’s fiercely competitive race for the crystal globe. Their strong performances not only highlight their individual skills but also reflect the depth of talent within Canadian short track speed skating as they gear up for the challenges ahead.

As in the previous year, Dandjinou started the season as the Canadian champion. He maintained his impressive performance with six individual World Cup medals, including three wins in the 1500m, and clinched the world title in the 1000m. A similar season would already represent a huge achievement, but the 23-year-old Montrealer wants more.

Boutin Sets Sights on 2026 Winter Olympics

I’m aiming for even greater achievements. Not because repetition is ineffective, but because there’s a strategy to it. With the Winter Olympics approaching, I want to immerse myself in various lessons and experiences that will prepare me thoroughly for the Games. And this should be done this year.

After taking time off at the beginning of last season for an internship, Boutin is set to return to coaching full-time. She ended the season on a high note on March 16, achieving her first career championship. It was at 500 m. She now turns her attention to the 2026 Winter Olympics, for which she hopes to qualify with an emphasis on performance as well as mental health.

Boutin Aims for Peak Performance

Until then, on the world circuit, she wants to be the Messi of her team. This means doesn’t run every ball, run when it counts. We really choose our moments to be optimal at the right time, like last year. For me, it’s more about choosing when I want to be 100% and use that form, in that moment. I see it as a ball of energy that I carry throughout the year and when I really want to perform, I drive it 100%.

Although the team roster stays largely the same, the competition format will undergo significant changes. Each distance—500, 1000, and 1500 meters—will feature only one race, and athletes will no longer restricted to two races. Each nation will have the opportunity to send three skaters per distance. Challenges and New Opportunities Ahead for Canadian Short Track

Recently named national team coach for the Winter Olympics, Marc Gagnon can have a lot of headaches when he and his team have to determine which skaters will participate in each competition. It’s quite a challenge to coach the Canadian team with the talent we have Gagnon said. We can only send three skaters per distance for the Winter Olympics, which means we can no longer give everyone as much experience.

Men’s 5000m relay, women’s 3000m relay and 2000m medley relay also held. The biggest new feature will undoubtedly be the creation of a team crystal globe, which will include all points from individual races and relays. Canadians are already coveting this new trophy. Director of high performance Marc Schryburt also said his team had done the math and the Maple Leafs would have taken him over the past two or three seasons. The fight should be close with South Korea, dominant for years in the short run.

Team Dynamics and Strategy Ahead of the Winter Olympics

For now, it’s hard to know if this new team championship will change anything strategically for the Winter Olympics, even if some Canadian skaters compete on the ice frequently. However, Pierre-Gilles is categorical: he will not change his approach.

No he answered confidently. I don’t think there will be any big difference. We are use to training together. I think domestic competition is what allows us to be more efficient internationally. The fact that there is a crystal ball for the team gives us the desire to prove that we are capable of having it and also pushes us to push our limits in the relays, including the medley relay, an event we have not played in much. until today.

Canada’s Success in Winter Olympic Short Track Speed Skating

To celebrate the sponsorship, Cuckoo CEO Paul Hellings joined GB Baird team members Jens Hullah, Luka Williams and Austin Milward to experience the super-fast thrill of a bobsleigh ride.

Cuckoo’s Commitment to Speed and Excellence in Bobsleigh

Based at the University of Bath, the team trains on the world’s premier bobsleigh track in the UK, before traveling around the world to train and compete on real ice tracks.

Known for its fast, fair and enjoyable broadband, Cuckoo is ditching slow and outdated broadband regulation, delivering fantastic speeds and no-nonsense customer service.

With this partnership, Cuckoo goes further in its mission of speed and fairness by supporting athletes who embody the same values.

Cuckoo’s Growing Presence in the Broadband Market

The news comes shortly after Think broadband reported that Cuckoo could be the retailer with the largest full fiber footprint, breaking out nationally into 17 million+ starter homes. Available through the APFN wholesale platform, the brand’s full fiber availability is now across other providers including BT, Vodafone and Sky.

Cuckoo is also the first broadband provider to use Kraken, the customer operating platform behind the success of Octopus Energy, while the ISP has already been voted Moneysaving Expert’s best provider for customer service for two consecutive years.

We wish Adam and the team all the best for the upcoming season as they aim to qualify for the Winter Olympic 2026

Baird added Ice time is absolutely essential to chasing our winter Olympic dreams and last season was the biggest push in the right direction. As Team Baird’s Platinum Sponsor, Cuckoo is enabling us to implement the necessary tools and training to achieve our goals. We are behind Cuckoo in its mission to revolutionize a sluggish broadband sector.

GB Bobsleigh Team Accuses UK Sport of Misleading Claims on World Cup Success

Members of Great Britain’s Olympic bobsleigh squad have accused UK Sport of a fraudulent attempt to take some of the credit for last season’s incredible World Cup success.

Despite being stripped of funding after a poor showing in Pyeongchang four years ago, Brad Hall led his four-man crew to three podium finishes and a fourth overall ranking heading into the Beijing Games.

Hall and hurdler Greg Cackett – who also won three doubles medals – were angered by comments from UK Sport chairman Katherine Grainger last week which appeared to imply their bid for qualification had been increased by a grant of £120,000 from the Beijing Support Fund. You can read Kaillie Humphries First Canadian Woman to Win a Winter Olympic Bobsleigh Medal

Cackett, who has been confirmed in a team that also includes Nick Gleeson and Olympic debutant Taylor Lawrence, was behind a worded response on the team’s Instagram story, which criticized the report’s inaccuracies and stressed that his team was only responsible for the success of this season.

Bobsleigh Team Criticizes UK Sport for Misleading Statements

Cackett stated on Thursday, whether they were misquoted or it was deliberately misleading, we felt it was an unnecessary last-minute attempt to claim, ‘we’ve given this away when in fact the money came after we we could have done anything with it.

Winter Olympic Tickets | Winter Olympic Games Tickets | Olympic Tickets | Milano Cortina 2026 Tickets | Winter Olympic 2026 Tickets|

The money basically arrived very late and that was the disappointment because it could have used to help us. I believe UK Sport should revisit this situation and consider whether it can manage differently in the future.

An initial £40,000 was award to the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association to split between the three bobsleigh teams, with an additional £80,000 advanced to Hall’s medal-winning team alone Last week, following the conclusion of the final World Cup season, UK Sport seemed eager to put the incident behind them. A spokesperson told the PA news agency, The athletes, along with everyone involved in this sport, deserve all the success they have achieved. We recognize that this has accomplished without public funding.

We had to make some difficult decisions for the Beijing cycle, which unfortunately had an impact on the bobsleigh.

Hall Emphasizes Focus and Rewarding Journey Ahead of Winter Olympics

The achievements of Brad Hall, Greg Cackett, Nick Gleeson, Taylor Lawrence, and the entire team in shaping Beijing are a testament to their passion for the sport and their unwavering determination to succeed.

Hall took three World Cup silver medals in the four-man World Cup season and enjoyed similar success in the two-man event, in which he will partnered by Gleeson at the Games.

In a team that also included Gleeson and Cackett, Hall had finished a disappointing 17th in Pyeongchang in 2018, a result that contributed to the decision to take the funding, which also shaped by governance concerns.

Winter Olympic 2026 Tickets| Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony Tickets | Olympic Bobsleigh Tickets

Hall remark It’s a challenging journey since our funding cut, but our hard work is beginning to pay off with World Cup medals of course, winter Olympic qualification. It definitely feels a lot more rewarding to do it this way.

But at this late stage we’re just looking to focus on the winter Olympics and we don’t want to have too much on the back burner to take away from our hard work and success.

The Roots of Bobsleigh A British Legacy

While Great Britain cannot claim to be the home of bobsleigh, it has a strong case for being the founder of the sport. The invention of the bobsleigh has attributed to a group of Englishmen on holiday in St Moritz in Switzerland in the late 1800s, while there are photographs from the early 1880s of boys at Harrow School hurtling down snowy slopes on toboggans strung together.

The first purpose-built race track open in 1902 just outside St Moritz, with that track many that followed featuring a straight run rather than the turns we are use to today.

Johann André For fang’s Dream for Tromsø: A Ski Jump Hill

Tromsoe is a city of 75,000 inhabitants in northern Norway. Situated 350 km north of the Arctic Circle, Tromsø is breathtakingly beautiful and is the largest city in northern Norway. It is also home to one of the world’s top ski jumpers, Johann André Forfang. What for fang lacks in Tromsoe is a ski jump hill and the winter Olympic team champion is now fighting for it.

At the age of 15, Johann Andre for fang had to move 1,100 km south from his hometown of Tromsoe to Trondheim so that he could become a ski jumper. Since then, his dream has been to have a ski jump hill in Tromsø. Now, he is one step closer to realizing that dream of competing in a World Cup event in Tromsø. FIS Race Director Walter Hofer visited Johann André for fang in Tromsø and was impressed by his dedication.

I have always dreamed of participating in an international competition in my hometown. A lot of people here love our sport, but all young jumpers know they have to move south at a young age if they want to focus on ski jumping. Since I was little, I’ve dreamed of jumping on an indoor hill. Now I’m dreaming of returning to Tromsø before I finish my career. We really deserve to have a hill here. Ski jumping and other Nordic sports will benefit from it, For fang said.

Progress on Troms’s Ski Jumping Hill Project

A feasibility study has now begun on the spectacular plans to build such a facility. We received the necessary funds to begin planning and explore opportunities. There is still a long way ahead of us, but this is a start and hopefully there will be progress,” said the 23-year-old.

Johann Andre For fang smiles when he talks about Walter Hofer’s visit in the spring. it was a very nice visit. It was good for me to have the chance to tell Walter Hofer about my hometown and the plans we are working on. No one has done more for the sport than him, his achievement in taking the sport to a new level was huge. I think he trusts Tromsoe to host big events. His interest appears to be genuine.

It means a lot to the people here in the north who have already invested a lot of time. I am happy for his positive approach; it means a lot to me.

Walter Hofer was surprised to learn that for fang was raised 735 km from the nearest World Cup hill (Ruka). To become one of the best, he had to relocate to Trondheim, which is 1,152 km away.

Potential Impact of a Ski Jumping Hill in Tromsø

It’s fascinating that we have someone like Johann from Tromsoe in the world elite, without having the opportunity to train at home. When we have the opportunity, we must do everything we can to make it a reality here. The surroundings are perfect. and give everything we have needed for ski jumping.

I’m sure there are many ski jumping fans and I hope the international ski jumping family will have a great potential is immense, the scenery is stunning, and the people here truly appreciate it said Walter Hofer. We need to make the most of it

A hill in Tromsoe could soon be worth a lot. Not only would it be possible to extend the snow season, but the facility could also serve as a substitute site when mild temperatures and rain, as recently in Titisee-Neustadt, cause problems.

It is too early to think about opening the season in Tromsoe. First there should be a hill, then we can talk about the calendar said the director of the Race. Johann Andre for fang, who claimed his third World Cup victory recently in Nizhny Tagil, doesn’t even know where to start when you talk to him about the possibilities a hill in Kvaloeysletta would offer.

Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony Tickets | Olympic ski jumping Tickets

We’ve never hosted a World Cup this far north. We all know what northern Norway has to offer. At other venues, you can’t experience the northern lights or the midnight sun. In Tromsø there are mountains, sea and Jumping skiing would be great here, that people really love such an event.

The Vision for a Ski Jumping Hill in Tromsø

We can add a new dimension to the summer Grand Prix. Just imagine competing under the midnight sun and the unique light here in the north. It would look spectacular on TV; you can even see whales during the dances. I don’t I haven’t heard anything negative about the hill in my hometown though.

How real is this project? It’s about funding, but there are many who desire such convenience. It’s about financing. If it was unrealistic, the dream would have ended a long time ago. Now we have come to a point where it starts to reach realistic We we don’t know how much it would cost, but if you look at the other hills, you have a lot to do, including infrastructure just for ski jumping, but also for all the other Nordic sports. There’s not much of that north of Trondheim said for fang.

The big dream of a home race could also extend Johann Andre for fang’s ski jumping career. It would be the pinnacle of my career to be given the opportunity at an international event in my hometown. That would be incredible. I would jump longer for it, it could extend my career for many years, but I hope not it will take many years.

Noriaki Kasai Aiming for Gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics

Noriaki Kasai, the silver medalist in the men’s giant hill at the Sochi Olympics last year, aims to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea and even beyond, the dance legend told reporters on skis after the Japan Ski Association. 90th anniversary ceremony on Sunday.

My current goal is to win gold in Pyeongchang and I want to achieve it in front of my family said the 42-year-old Kasai, who married after the Sochi Games last year. When I reached my 40s, I decided I would leave it when I turned 50. But now Sapporo, my hometown, is bidding for the 2026 Games. I’ll be 54 by then, but it’s a chance too big to give up.

Noriaki Kasai The Timeless Veteran of Ski Jumping

Noriaki Kasai is the oldest flyer in town. The 47-year-old Japanese is entering his 31st World Cup ski jumping season, having made his debut in Sapporo in December 1988.

While reigning World Cup champion Ryoyu Kobayashi has taken over as his country’s number one, Kasai remains an important member of the Japanese team. You can read Winter Olympic Ski Jumping: Falling or Flying in Style?

And after making his eighth appearance at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the veteran hinted he wants to compete at Beijing 2022 and possibly Milan-Cortina 2026.

Kasai has been on the World Cup circuit longer than most of his rivals have been alive. The secret to his longevity? He claims he doesn’t have one. He told Olympic Channel after PyeongChang 2018, I wake up very early every day and go for a run. And I try to do some kind of visualization or meditation.

Kasai’s love of training has been with him since childhood, but he says a Finnish coach made him change his view of competition in 2001. He told me that rest and rest days are part of training. He has actually incorporated this rest into our training program. At first, I didn’t feel like I was training enough. But this time off allowed me to refresh and that was a great lesson.

Mentally, he feels much stronger than when he first started, admitting. If I had the same mental strength when I was younger, I’m sure I would have won more medals.

Noriaki Kasai Early Career and Rising Fame

Kasai was born in June 1972, just four months after Yukio Kasaya led a sweep of the Japanese podium in the normal hill event at the Sapporo Winter Olympics. After making his World Cup debut as a 16-year-old, he made his name in Europe before making his debut at the 1992 Albertville Olympics, where he helped Japan to fourth in the team competition.

Winter Olympic Milano Cortina 2026 Tickets | Winter Olympic Tickets | Winter Olympic Games Tickets |

A month later, he won his first major triumph at the Ski Flying World Championships in Harrachov in the Czech Republic. Harrachov’s Certak Hill had a reputation for crashing, and it was there that he earned the nickname ‘Kamikaze Kasai’.

He told the Olympic Channel that the pole vault was considered by many to be quite dangerous. But then, I wasn’t afraid to jump from it during the championships. Establishing himself as one of the best jumpers in the world. Kasai went to Lillehammer for the 1994 Winter Olympics.

After a disappointing 14th place on the big hill, he and Takanobu Okabe led Japan to team silver before finishing fifth on the normal hill.

But a broken shoulder suffered in a fall in training caused him to miss the entire 1994-95 season. In his absence, young Kazuyoshi Funaki made his ascent to the world class with Okabe also challenging for victory.

Noriaki Kasai Resilience and Continued Success

Kasai returned to action just in time for the 1995-96 Four Hills, but he did not return to the World Cup podium until February 1997, when he took second on the big hill at Hakuba, the venue for the 1998 Nagano Olympics. was included in Japan’s snow team at home, but only finished seventh in the normal hill race with Funaki taking silver.

This left him out of the big hill race where Funaki and Masahiko Harada won gold and bronze, and the team race where the hosts emerged victorious.

This disappointment only served to inspire Kasai, who returned to the team that took silver at the 1999 World Championships in Bischofshofen. He then defeated Funaki to take the Nordic Tour in March 1999, winning two of the four World Cup events.

Over the next decade, he continued to be a cornerstone of the Japanese team and went to Salt Lake City 2002. At the 2003 World Championships in Predazzo, Val di Fiemme, Kasai won two individual bronze medals and led Japan to team silver.

He was less successful at the Winter Olympics despite qualifying top in both events at Turin 2006 and the big hill at Vancouver 2010. Kasai was unable to crack the top 10 in Turin and finished eighth in Vancouver.

But that all changed at Sochi 2014. The signs were good with Kasai, then 41, winning his first individual World Cup event in almost 10 years on the flying hill in Tauplitz/Bad Mitterndorf just a month before the Games.

Noriaki Kasai A Legendary Career in Winter Olympic Ski Jumping

In Russia, he was a promising seventh in the normal hill after Kamil Stoch took gold. And on the big hill, the old screener was second to Pole after the first round with both men jumping 139.0m.

The top two remained the same after the second round with Stoch completing the double and Kasai becoming the oldest Winter Olympic ski jumping winner. Kasai then helped Japan win bronze in the team event to earn him a third Winter Olympic medal.

His last World Cup podium finish was in March 2017, but he did enough to make Japan’s team for PyeongChang 2018. With his wife and young daughter in attendance, he was unable to add to the amount of his medals. Kasai knows his body isn’t as young as it once was with his lower back and knees giving him trouble in recent years:

Noriaki Kasai Reflections on Aging and Legacy

This is not because of the dance itself, but because of the hard training. When I was young, of course I could do anything. I can still do everything now. But if I train too much, I start to get hurt. That’s how I know I’m getting old.

As for his ‘legend’ label, Kasai believes this is just a recent development. I think that maybe just before Sochi, I started to be called a legend in the foreign media. I was a bit embarrassed as that word was too big for me. But back home in Japan now there are many sports legends. And I think I’m a real legend now because it started overseas. Now I’m not ashamed anymore.

Humphries was among the first women to pilot a mixed-gender team in a four-person bobsled event. She was also the first woman to lead an all-female team against men in a four-man World Cup competition.

In 2019, Humphries moved to represent the United States due to alleged abuse and harassment she claims she faced from the Canadian bobsled federation. She earned three IBSF World Championship medals for Team USA during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, becoming a five-time world champion and the most decorated woman in bobsled history. At the 2021 IBSF World Championships, she also competed in the two-woman and monobob events, making her the first female bobsledder to secure a double world title.

Kaillie Humphries A Journey to winter Olympic Gold and Beyond

Humphries was originally low on the Canadian depth chart and was considered to represent Great Britain, the country of her then-fiancé, Dan Humphries, to compete in the 2006 winter Olympic. Opting to stay with the Canadian team, she earned a spot on the roster after signing up for a bobsled driving school. She won silver in the mixed bobsled team event at the 2008 FIBT World Championships in Altenburg, Germany. After placing seventh in the 2008–09 Bobsleigh World Cup series, she secured second overall in the 2009–10 series, achieving one victory and two additional podium finishes, while consistently finishing in the top six across all eight races in a field of 20.

At the 2010 Winter Olympic, Humphries won gold in the women’s doubles event with hurdler Heather Moyse. The silver medal was claimed by fellow Canadians Shelley-Ann Brown and Helen Upper ton. After the final race, Humphries remarked, I don’t think I can put it into words yet. We did our job, you know. Achieving the goal, I set as a child is truly amazing. Following the 2010 winter Olympic, Humphries faced a period of less success for nearly two seasons.

Kaillie Humphries: Rising Through the Ranks

She finished on the podium just once during the 2010–11 World Cup series, although her consistent top-10 finishes allowed her to finish third overall. She fell to fifth overall in the 2011–12 World Cup series, although she had four podium finishes, including three gold medals. Humphries teamed up with hurdler Emily Baadsvik and then hurdler Jennifer Ciochetti for back-to-back victories in the final two races of the 2011–12 World Cup.

Humphries and Ciochetti also won the 2012 World Championships event in Lake Placid, marking the first gold medal for a Canadian women’s bobsled team at the World Championships. When asked about the significance of the result alongside her Olympic gold, she responded, it feels incredible. It’s another goal accomplished. It means a lot to me. I feel like I’m still growing as a pilot and I try to learn from every experience I’ve worked on for my endurance, and I’m glad it showed up here.

Those three gold medals began a winning streak that would eventually break records for women’s bobsled. Humphries, along with young brakeman Chelsea Valois, was a dominant force during the 2012–13 Bobsleigh World Cup season. The duo secured a spot on the podium in all nine races, achieving an impressive five consecutive victories right from the start of the season. They won the overall season championship with a record 1,960 points in six gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

Kaillie Humphries: Dominance in Bobsledding

Humphries’ success in the 2012–2013 winter included a repeat as world champion as he set a track record at the 2013 FIBT World Championships in St. Moritz. She finished on the podium in all 10 FIBT events during the 2012–13 season, and extended her consecutive FIBT podium finishes to 13 when counting the final two events from the 2011–12 World Cup season along with the 2012 FIBT World Championship event. This streak included an eight-game winning streak from the end of 2011–12 to the beginning of 2012–13, while teaming up with three different drivers (Baadsvik for one win, Ciochetti for two wins and Valois for the rest).

The 2013–14 World Cup season marked a reunion for Humphries with her Vancouver 2010 teammate Heather Moyse. Humphries continued her podium streak, claiming victory in the season’s opening race and securing a silver in the following event, maintaining an impressive run of 11 consecutive gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals dating back to late 2011–12 until the beginning of 2013-14.

Kaillie Humphries: Sochi Success and winter Olympic Legacy

She traded podium positions with the American team of driver Elana Meyers and brakeman Lauryn Williams during the 2013–14 season and eventually won her second consecutive World Cup season title. The close race between the Canadians and Americans carried over to the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Meyers and Williams led by just over two-tenths of a second after Day 1 of racing—uncharacteristically beating Humphries and Moyse in their respective times. a solid beginning, although Humphries committed fewer driving mistakes and delivered smoother runs.

On the second day of competition, the Americans again won the start push, but made some mistakes on the technical course. Humphries’ clean piloting propelled the Canadians from second place to the gold medal position, making them the first women’s bobsled team to repeat as winter Olympic champions and the first Canadian Winter Olympic woman to defend her title since speed skater Catriona Le May Doan. Humphries said of the achievement. How do you describe achieving a dream? This is our four-year goal. This was something we did together. Earning gold is amazing, but walking away satisfied is even better. After the third race, I knew that if we did the business, we could be in the lead.

Kaillie Humphries Why Monobob Gold Was My Most Emotional Winter Olympic Victory

Kaillie Humphries’ fight to become the first winter Olympic monobob champion made her victory all the sweeter. In 2019, the Canadian native made the heartbreaking decision to switch allegiance to the US after winning two winter Olympic bobsleigh gold medals for the country of her birth.

Despite winning two gold medals at the 2021 World Championships wearing the red, white and blue, Humphries endured an agonizing wait for her new passport to arrive, enabling her to compete at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic in December 2021, Humphries received her new citizenship, just in time.

Honestly, it’s every emotion Humphries has after her gold medal race in China. I am happy. I am happy, I am relieved. i am proud It’s a little overwhelming to think about, but it’s definitely a great honor to know that the last four years have been a battle and nothing was guaranteed. This gold medal feels more emotional (than the previous two). This was filled with much more uncertainty and doubt. We had to fight for the event first, and then I had to fight for my spot on Team USA, which is such a strong nation.

I had to fight for citizenship. It’s been difficult, but I’m not someone who backs down from a challenge. There were a lot of tears and a lot of uncertainty, but we got through it. It will always hold a unique place in my heart. First monobob gold for the USA.

Kaillie Humphries: Championing Change in Women’s Bobsledding

The introduction of the monobob into the winter Olympic program means that for the first time in one Games, female bobsledders have the opportunity to win two medals.

Humphries was one of the main advocates for this change and hopes it will lead to a new generation of women participating in the sport.

I still remember in 2002, the first women to win were Jill Bakken and Vonetta Flowers recalls the 36-year-old. I hope that in the future, young girls will say, ‘I remember Kaillie,’ and feel inspired to get involved. Now they have two opportunities, and hopefully even more, to win medals in this sport.

I think it’s great and I’ll keep fighting for it. The women before me have allowed this to happen and I want to make sure it continues for all future generations. The five-time world champion is a big fan of body art and already knows how she will commemorate her historic victory with paint.

I feel like a sleeping dragon tattoo would be nice, along with the track. I will definitely get another tattoo in the US. There won’t be much time to celebrate for Humphries, with two-woman training – and her bid for double gold in China – starting tomorrow (February 15).

Alina Zagitova Takes Lead After Short Program at European Championships

Defending champion Alina Zagitova leads after the short program at the European Championships, despite nearly dropping her hand during a jump. The winter Olympic champion led a Russian one-two finish with Sofia Samodurova just over two points behind her, while Swiss Skating

Alexia Paganini took the junior bronze. Zagitova, 16, was all smiles as she walked off the ice to collect the ‘little gold’ medal, quickly putting the near miss behind her.

A clean double Axel followed, but then came the moment of drama when she misjudged her landing with a triple spin and stuck her hand out for balance, pulling it back in time. She received a score of 75.00 points for her skate, although it appeared to have been flagged for an under-rotation on the loop.

Speaking to the media, including the winter Olympic Channel, afterwards, she said: I haven’t slept well lately before the race. I am satisfied even though it could have been much better she added, according to RIA Novosti.

Alina Zagitova Returns to the Ice at Russian Annual Test Skating

Is this the start of a competitive figure skating comeback for Winter Olympic Champion Alina Zagitova? The 18-year-old has been out of action since finishing sixth in December’s Grand Prix final in Turin, missing the Russian and European Championships that followed after deciding to take a break from competition.

However, after recently returning to full-time training with mentor Eteri Tutberidze and being named in the long-list for Russia’s international squad for the 2020/21 season, the teenager is now one step closer.

The president of the Russian Winter Olympic Games Figure Skating Federation, Aleksandr Gorshkov, has told Russian media that Zagitova will take part in the federation’s preseason test in Moscow from September 12-13, where she will perform her new routines.

Alina Zagitova’s Future in Figure Skating Assessing Her Return After Test Skating

Due to the non-competitive nature of the test Skating Zagitova will not officially be returning to figure skating competition by participating in this event. The Russian Cup serves as a qualifying event for the national championships in Chelyabinsk this December. Without competing in this series, Zagitova would be ineligible for the nationals.

Alina Zagitova Navigating Personal Change and Challenges in Figure Skating

Zagitova and her coach Tutberidze have experienced a period of significant change. On Zagitova’s side, she is navigating personal transitions, including graduating from school and starting university. She has also recently addressed the impact of online trolls, revealing how they affected her during her early career.

I initially tried to ignore the negative comments Zagitova said. However, there were moments when a rough start would let those remarks get to me. People were quick to tell me what I should do.

Though it troubled her, her coaches and parents reassured her that it’s normal to face criticism and that not everyone would be a fan.

Zagitova, who won the world title in 2019, remains the reigning champion due to the cancellation of the 2020 World Championships. However, her training environment in Novogorsk has changed, as she no longer trains alongside standout skaters Alexandra Trusova and Alena Kostornaia, both of whom have switched to Evgeni Plushenko’s coaching.

The impact of these changes on Zagitova—should she decide to return—and on her teammate Anna Shcherbakova as the ISU Grand Prix season begins, remains to be seen.

Delduca and Abdul-Saboor were the only Americans to make the final 20-team field for the 2-man bobsleigh event at these Winter Olympics. They finished 13th at the Yanqing National Skating Center on Tuesday with a time of 4:00.10, just 3.21 seconds behind gold medalist and German legend Francesco Friedrich. We bring you the key things you need to know about each athlete’s journey to the Games.

Hakeem Abdul-Saboor: Overcoming Injury and Pursuing Olympic Glory

The 34-year-old from Powhatan, Virginia is a supremely talented athlete and is competing in his second Winter Olympics after making his debut at PyeongChang 2018, where he finished 19th in 4 and 21st in 2. The reality is that he could have pursued a professional career in several different disciplines.

The dream was the National Football League (NFL). Near the end of a stellar college career at the University of Virginia-Wise, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. That dream had to die. He said it created a void in his heart.

But competing at the highest level is the primary goal for the former bodybuilder. You can read Cortina Aims for Bobsleigh Revival Ahead of Winter Olympic 2026

Chasing the Rush Abdul-Saboor Embraces the Thrills of Bobsleigh

As luck would have it, Abdul-Saboor found himself sliding, after a video of him jumping to touch his head on the ceiling landed in the hands of strength coach Brad DeWeese at the Olympic training grounds in Tennesee.

DeWeese quickly invited Abdul-Saboor to participate in the upcoming USA bobsled combine. The rest is history. The opportunity to compete after college was the biggest draw for me Abdul-Saboor told Richmond Magazine.

This sport is an adrenaline rush. There’s no other feeling like it. When you’re on the line and you’re ready to push, while there’s nothing else that matters at that moment in time.

Olympic Bobsleigh Tickets

We spend 10-plus hours a day out on the slopes, working on the sled and preparing our bodies to be ready to go down for two one-minute runs. because Some would think that’s a lot of time to work, but those two minutes when you’re on the ice, going as fast as you can and flirting with the win or crash line is unlike anything else you’ll experience.

Frank Delduca from State Champion to Elite Bobsleigh Pilot

Like Abdul-Sabooar, pilot Delduca has been involved in a multitude of athletic endeavors, ranging from alpine skiing in high school (he was a state champion) to American AAA football in Maine. And also like his crew partner, he tore his ACL on the ride before finding his way to bobsleigh.

His journey to becoming one of the best pilots for his country has been faster than most. He tried the discipline for the first time as a pusher in 2015, and within two years he was competing at the North America Cup level as a bobsled driver.

After two World Championship appearances in 2016 and 2017, Delduca made his World Cup debut as a driver in January 2022, with just two races in each discipline under his belt before heading to Beijing 2022.

Hakeem Abdul-Saboor from Powhatan High School Star to winter Olympic on the USA Bobsled Team

Powhatan High School graduate and standout athlete Hakeem Abdul-Saboor joins seven other newcomers to the 12-member USA Men’s Bobsled team for 2018. The announcement was made by USA Bobsled & Skeleton on Monday. Abdul-Saboor will compete in twos and fours at the PyeongChang games with two-time winter Olympian and winter pilot Nick Cunningham and teammates Chris Kinney and Sam Michener.

Rising from Adversity Hakeem Abdul-Saboor’s Journey from Injury to National Champion

Abdul-Saboor received a football scholarship to the University of Virginia College at Wise, where he played running back. An ACL injury ended his football career in his senior year, also ending his future professional football prospects.

Abdul-Saboor was discovered by strength coach Brad DeWeese, who saw a video recording of an explosive jump that hit his head on the ceiling. The coach invited Abdul-Saboor to try out, and after several months of intense training he pushed the fastest of the men’s field competing at the Lake Placid Preliminary Push Championship, taking first place by 0.16 seconds.

He went on to become the 2015 National Puffer Champion and eventually earned a spot on the US National Team, where he competed against Olympic gold medalist Steve Holcomb.

Bodybuilding Nutrition Hakeem Abdul-Saboor’s Preparation for the 2018 PyeongChang winter Olympic

When you think bodybuilder, the Winter Olympic are not the first thing that comes to mind. However, PyeongChang, South Korea, is exactly where former physique competitor Hakeem Abdul-Saboor now represents Team USA in the two-man and four-man competition.

Abdul-Saboor began his career as a multi-sport high school athlete, but a torn ACL playing football in his senior year at the University of Virginia at Wise forced him to make a drastic change.

With his muscular physique and competitive nature, bodybuilding was the next logical choice. Competing in the men’s physique category, Abdul-Saboor did very well in several competitions, even placing fourth at the 2012 Bodybuilding.com FIT USA event.

But the stage alone wasn’t enough to satisfy his athletic desire, and after spending several years as a speed, becausea a agility and speed coach in Knoxville, Abdul-Saboor’s athletic abilities eventually caught the eye of Dr. Brad DeWeese, former director of physiology for the US winter Olympic Committee.

He will compete throughout the final weekend of the 2018 Winter Olympics, Feb. 23-25, which you can watch online at Olympic.org or on NBC sports. But Abdul-Saboor also graciously found time in his busy Olympic schedule to chat with Bodybuilding.com about his training, while history and Olympic experience.

Training Transitions: Hakeem Abdul-Saboor’s Bodybuilding Background in Bobsleigh Preparation

My background in weightlifting and bodybuilding carries over significantly into my career as a bobsledder. Although my training is slightly different, I still carry many of the key factors I learned as a competitor.

In bodybuilding, I periodized my training volume based on how far away I was from a show, and for bobsled I do the same. while I had to peak for my performances just as I had to peak for my most important competitions in the Olympics.

During my off season as a bodybuilder, I would go through a huge phase where I would try to bulk up and get as strong as possible and gain as much muscle as possible. I lifted the weight and kept the reps low.

Shifting Focus Hakeem Abdul-Saboor’s Training Strategy from Bodybuilding to winter Olympic Bobsleigh

Once I got close to a show, my focus would go from trying to gain mass to trying to just maintain the muscle I gained. My weights would go down and my reps would go up. Leading up to the Olympics, I had a very similar game plan. The only difference was that now my lifts are mostly Olympic lifts like power cleans, squats and crunches, with some “normal” lifts like squats and bench presses.

To prepare for bodybuilding, I would do more isolated lifts to focus on specific muscle groups and now I focus more on total body lifts that help increase strength.

For bobsled pre-season I was the strongest and lifting heavy percentages. beacuse Once I got into the season, the focus then turned to maintaining the speed and strength I gained in the offseason. Now that I’m in the Olympics, I’m down to lower percentages so my body is fresh for competition.

Sasha Cohen on U.S. Women’s Winter Olympic Figure Skating Medal Drought Since 2006

Believe it or not, it’s been 18 long years since an American women’s figure Skating stood on the Olympic podium. The last was Sasha Cohen, at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympic, where she won the silver medal. Given America’s previous dominance in women’s figure skating — Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Kristi Yamaguchi, Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan, to name a few — the omission is hard to fathom.

Cohen will turn 40 this month. A graduate of Columbia University with a degree in general studies and now working for a major investment house while raising two young children—Dash and Paloma—She leads a lifestyle that is quite different from the intense athletic regimen she followed two decades ago. We thought it would be interesting to catch up with her to get some perspective on her current life and the US Women’s Figure Skating program in general.

The Shift in Figure Skating Cohen on Judging and Technical Demands

Jim Clash You’re the last U.S. women’s figure skater to stand on the winter Olympic podium—back in 2006. That’s incredible. Sasha Cohen It’s definitely surprising. Training programs evolve, and different countries often dominate at various times. The USA still has incredible talent, excelling in men’s dance and figure skating, but, as you say, we haven’t been able to put a woman on the podium since 2006. It’s disheartening as a former athlete and someone with roots in the USA.

Crash: To me as a layman it seems that the judging is done more on dances and less on style. Is this a fair assessment? You can read Winter Olympic – Amber Survival Test at the Figure Skating

Cohen: You’re not wrong. The sport has certainly shifted to favor higher technical difficulty and specific movements, particularly quadruple jumps. Because of this, skaters do not have time to develop their choreography in a way that highlights their personality and artistry. They have to accumulate all kinds of technical things from the beginning to the end of their programs, because this is what is reflected in the results, which ultimately determines whether they are on the podium.

The Art of Performance Cohen on Balancing Fame and Emotional Connection

At the top of the US, the whole package was considered and women had a chance to develop into mature skaters. It wasn’t just about the jumps, it was the skill on the ice that made him so fun and dynamic to watch. The Crash: When you were competing, how did you manage the attention that comes with fame—autographs, photos, and interviews—while staying focused on the business of skating?

Cohen: It’s helpful to have a coach or team manager who can be the one to say No more autographs, let him focus. Then you don’t have to be the bad guy [laughs]. But it’s hard because you see these people who have followed your career and finally have this opportunity to get an autograph or a photo.

When you’re on tour, the stakes are much lower and it’s really nice to have that one-on-one moment with someone who’s watched you since you were a kid. What we do isn’t done in isolation. It’s not just a race, it’s a performance in music with an emotional component. So it means a lot more to the audience and the fans. It is a very dynamic experience.

A Memorable Encounter: Cohen’s Moment with President Bush at the 2002 winter Olympic

Crash Revisiting the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic. Didn’t President George W. Bush sit next to you during the opening ceremonies?

Cohen After the ceremonial lap, all the different countries began to take their respective seats on the benches to watch the opening ceremonies. Within two minutes of sitting down, two Secret Service agents came, put down this blanket and started telling people to run. We’re all like, what’s going on? They said the President would sit there. I called my mom and said, Mom, Mom, President Bush is going to sit next to me She laughed and said oh honey, I’m sure you’re wrong. I don’t think so.

Fifteen minutes later, when the President sat down next to me, I asked him Can you talk to my mom, will you say hello? She doesn’t believe you would sit next to me. He said sure and actually talked to him for a minute, a minute and a half, saying how much he loved opening ceremonies and how nice it was to talk to me. My mom told me later that she almost fell out of her chair watching from a restaurant bar in Salt Lake City. That was definitely a fun moment in those games.

Finding Balance Cohen on Motherhood and Managing Responsibilities

Crash You’re a mother yourself now. How do you balance that with your work and doing things like this interview?

Winter Olympic 2026 Tickets| Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony Tickets | Olympic Figure Skating Tickets

Cohen You have to do things quickly [laughs]. I go to yoga, and it helps me to refocus, to have some calm, because it’s so hectic the rest of the time. One thing that is really hard is to meet all the requirements but not be able to do anything at all well. There’s a saying I once read about motherhood: You can be great at your job, great with the kids, great at this and that, but not all at the same time. It’s challenging, but it’s comforting to know that many other women share the same experience. Being a mother and participating in the world is a privilege—a balance of give and take.

But as my children are getting older, I am realizing how quickly time flies. It’s increasingly important for me to be present to influence them, play with them, and learn from them. You show up every day and try to be as present as possible, listening to that inner compass that tells you what’s really important.
