The skater, who recently graduated high school and is now studying journalism at university, plans to assess how she feels after the test before deciding on her competitive return.

Gorshkov, an winter Olympic champion for the Soviet Union in Innsbruck 1976, noted that Zagitova’s involvement in the domestic Russian Cup series remains uncertain. The Russian Cup serves as a qualifying event for the national championships in Chelyabinsk this December. Without competing in this series, Zagitova would be ineligible for the nationals.

Alina Zagitova Navigating Personal Change and Challenges in Figure Skating

Zagitova and her coach Tutberidze have experienced a period of significant change. On Zagitova’s side, she is navigating personal transitions, including graduating from school and starting university. She has also recently addressed the impact of online trolls, revealing how they affected her during her early career.

Olympic Figure Skating Tickets

I initially tried to ignore the negative comments Zagitova said. However, there were moments when a rough start would let those remarks get to me. People were quick to tell me what I should do.

Though it troubled her, her coaches and parents reassured her that it’s normal to face criticism and that not everyone would be a fan.

Zagitova, who won the world title in 2019, remains the reigning champion due to the cancellation of the 2020 World Championships. However, her training environment in Novogorsk has changed, as she no longer trains alongside standout skaters Alexandra Trusova and Alena Kostornaia, both of whom have switched to Evgeni Plushenko’s coaching.

The impact of these changes on Zagitova—should she decide to return—and on her teammate Anna Shcherbakova as the ISU Grand Prix season begins, remains to be seen.

Sasha Cohen on U.S. Women’s Winter Olympic Figure Skating Medal Drought Since 2006

Believe it or not, it’s been 18 long years since an American women’s figure Skating stood on the Olympic podium. The last was Sasha Cohen, at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympic, where she won the silver medal. Given America’s previous dominance in women’s figure skating — Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Kristi Yamaguchi, Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan, to name a few — the omission is hard to fathom.

Cohen will turn 40 this month. A graduate of Columbia University with a degree in general studies and now working for a major investment house while raising two young children—Dash and Paloma—She leads a lifestyle that is quite different from the intense athletic regimen she followed two decades ago. We thought it would be interesting to catch up with her to get some perspective on her current life and the US Women’s Figure Skating program in general.

The Shift in Figure Skating Cohen on Judging and Technical Demands

Jim Clash You’re the last U.S. women’s figure skater to stand on the winter Olympic podium—back in 2006. That’s incredible. Sasha Cohen It’s definitely surprising. Training programs evolve, and different countries often dominate at various times. The USA still has incredible talent, excelling in men’s dance and figure skating, but, as you say, we haven’t been able to put a woman on the podium since 2006. It’s disheartening as a former athlete and someone with roots in the USA.

Crash: To me as a layman it seems that the judging is done more on dances and less on style. Is this a fair assessment? You can read Winter Olympic – Amber Survival Test at the Figure Skating

Cohen: You’re not wrong. The sport has certainly shifted to favor higher technical difficulty and specific movements, particularly quadruple jumps. Because of this, skaters do not have time to develop their choreography in a way that highlights their personality and artistry. They have to accumulate all kinds of technical things from the beginning to the end of their programs, because this is what is reflected in the results, which ultimately determines whether they are on the podium.

The Art of Performance Cohen on Balancing Fame and Emotional Connection

At the top of the US, the whole package was considered and women had a chance to develop into mature skaters. It wasn’t just about the jumps, it was the skill on the ice that made him so fun and dynamic to watch. The Crash: When you were competing, how did you manage the attention that comes with fame—autographs, photos, and interviews—while staying focused on the business of skating?

Cohen: It’s helpful to have a coach or team manager who can be the one to say No more autographs, let him focus. Then you don’t have to be the bad guy [laughs]. But it’s hard because you see these people who have followed your career and finally have this opportunity to get an autograph or a photo.

When you’re on tour, the stakes are much lower and it’s really nice to have that one-on-one moment with someone who’s watched you since you were a kid. What we do isn’t done in isolation. It’s not just a race, it’s a performance in music with an emotional component. So it means a lot more to the audience and the fans. It is a very dynamic experience.

A Memorable Encounter: Cohen’s Moment with President Bush at the 2002 winter Olympic

Crash Revisiting the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic. Didn’t President George W. Bush sit next to you during the opening ceremonies?

Cohen After the ceremonial lap, all the different countries began to take their respective seats on the benches to watch the opening ceremonies. Within two minutes of sitting down, two Secret Service agents came, put down this blanket and started telling people to run. We’re all like, what’s going on? They said the President would sit there. I called my mom and said, Mom, Mom, President Bush is going to sit next to me She laughed and said oh honey, I’m sure you’re wrong. I don’t think so.

Fifteen minutes later, when the President sat down next to me, I asked him Can you talk to my mom, will you say hello? She doesn’t believe you would sit next to me. He said sure and actually talked to him for a minute, a minute and a half, saying how much he loved opening ceremonies and how nice it was to talk to me. My mom told me later that she almost fell out of her chair watching from a restaurant bar in Salt Lake City. That was definitely a fun moment in those games.

Finding Balance Cohen on Motherhood and Managing Responsibilities

Crash You’re a mother yourself now. How do you balance that with your work and doing things like this interview?

Winter Olympic 2026 Tickets| Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony Tickets | Olympic Figure Skating Tickets

Cohen You have to do things quickly [laughs]. I go to yoga, and it helps me to refocus, to have some calm, because it’s so hectic the rest of the time. One thing that is really hard is to meet all the requirements but not be able to do anything at all well. There’s a saying I once read about motherhood: You can be great at your job, great with the kids, great at this and that, but not all at the same time. It’s challenging, but it’s comforting to know that many other women share the same experience. Being a mother and participating in the world is a privilege—a balance of give and take.

But as my children are getting older, I am realizing how quickly time flies. It’s increasingly important for me to be present to influence them, play with them, and learn from them. You show up every day and try to be as present as possible, listening to that inner compass that tells you what’s really important.

Kovar introduced Chen to fellow Czechoslovak figure skater Jozef Sabovčík, nicknamed Jumping Joe. Sabovčík was the first coach to tell Chen not to stop in the middle of a program during a competition. Chen worked with Kovar until he was nine years old and had begun taking lessons from Evgenia Chernyshyova, who was a native of Salt Lake City and more accessible.

He began working with dance specialist Rafael Arutyunyan when he was 10 years old; Chen and his mother drove from Salt Lake City to Lake Arrowhead, California, several times a year. The family didn’t have much money to spend on skates, lessons and racing suits, so Chen and his mother sometimes slept in their car. At age 11, Chen told his mother that he needed to move to further his career, and Chen and his mother moved to Southern California. Arutyunyan became his head coach in 2011.

Early Career and Partnerships of Nikolaj Sorensen

Sorensen started skating in 1996, encouraged by his father. He began competing internationally with Anne Thomsen in 2003, finishing twenty-fourth at the 2006 World Junior Championships. In 2007, he partnered with Czech skater Barbara Herold ova to represent Denmark. Together, they competed for one season, achieving a twenty-first place finish at the 2008 World Junior Championships.

In 2009, Sorensen teamed up with Canadian skater Katelyn Good to represent Denmark. In their debut season, they secured the Danish senior national title and finished seventeenth at the 2010 World Junior Championships, twenty-first at the 2010 European Championships, and twenty-fourth at the 2010 World Championships. The following year, they relocated from training in the United States under Mathew Gates to Montreal to be closer to Good’s mother.

On Gates’ recommendation, they started training with Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon at their newly established ice dance academy, which at that point had only four teams. Tragically, shortly after their move, Good’s mother passed away. Sorensen and Good concluded their partnership by placing twenty-ninth at the 2011 World Championships, after which Good decided to retire due to injury. So, you know, feelings change, and what we thought we needed changed during this season. The next day, they were name to the Canadian Winter Olympic team. Speaking on the occasion to Danish TV 2, Sorensen reflected that it’s a shame we couldn’t compete for Denmark because we’ve never been to the winter Olympic in ice dancing. With a chance to win nationals for the first time, he stumbled in his free skate on Friday and left the ice certain to lose. Isa beau Leviton, the American champion who needed only a clean sweep to win for the second straight time but fell on three jumps and dropped to third place, but let Glenn win the gold?

Could it be 15-year-old Josephine Lee who moved to second place when Leviton fell or maybe it’s Sarah Eberhard, the fourth Pewter Medal winner from Haymarket, Va., who trains with Ilia Melanin, the American star who looks set to compete for winter Olympic gold in two years.

Who Will Lead Team USA to Medals

When Friday night rolled around Saturday morning, the answer wasn’t clear as the foursome sat in pinstripes behind a map below Nationwide Arena and tried to sort out the pain of wearing it. Pins are not sure what to say.

It’s a mixture of being very grateful for this result, but also knowing that I can do better Glenn said. I don’t know how it feels Lee said, expressing her relief at successfully putting together two programs after a tough start at last year’s nationals.

Mikaela Shiffrin was injured after crashing during the World Cup tournament in Italy. I’m really disappointed with my skiing today Leviton said before adding experience always teaches. It was a strange night in a strange time for women’s skiing in the United States. American women used to win medals at the winter Olympic but haven’t done so since Sasha Cohen took silver in 2006.

With the Russians abroad the world image is a punishment for the war in Ukraine, there is no guarantee that there will be a Russian army. Milan, allowing an opportunity for American athletes. But Friday offered little evidence that the United States is ready to seize that opportunity, or any opportunity.

Leviton appeared to be on a strong streak after his country won last year and won two Grand Prix last fall, but a dangerous short program in the Grand Prix final preceded his trouble on Friday night. He said his free ride here was like a fever dream because he was concerned and anxious about protecting his title. His first fall woke him up. I thought, what am I doing? he said.

American Figure Skating Confront Trials on the Road to Winter Olympic – Milano Cortina 2026

He didn’t know how he fell the next two times, but he just fell on the ice after that and lost his shot at another gold. He appeared to be crying as he slid off the ice and stared sadly at the camera as he waited for his shot, frowning as he made a heart with his hands. it did not appear when his score was announced, dropping his head as if he was certain that he would finish in third place.

Lance Larson, swimmer who lost Olympic gold in historic controversy, dies at 83. Meanwhile, Glenn, a 24-year-old who endured years of disappointment and near misses in a promising career, thinks he’s squandered his best chance at an American championship.  You can Read Winter Olympic Milano Cortina 2026: Karen Chen Joins Cornell Figure Skating Team

But halfway through Friday’s freestyle, he lost his momentum. He made two mistakes on two jumps and after that, forced a smile as he skated off the ice.”Definitely,” was how he described the minutes he went from a terrible chance to an uncertain victory.

Finally, almost half an hour after what could have been a terrible night, he beamed as fans reached out to touch his hand. Someone gave him a Pride flag and he wore it. She started crying again.

For a while, worries about another Olympics can wait. Glenn began to skate in circles around the empty arena, the Pride flag on his shoulders, a gold medal around his neck and the knowledge that he had finally become America’s champion in a way that no one has ever imagined.

Josephine Lee Makes Waves as a Fresh Talent in Figure Skating

Josephine Lee’s skating talent is clear even to the most casual observer. His confident jumps, ability to captivate the audience, and the beauty of his edges—technique that embodies the artistry of skating—make him a compelling performer.

Lee, who turned 16 on Feb. 3, cemented her winter Olympic 2026 ambitions by performing the highest-scoring long program at the recent U.S. championships. It’s an amazing habit that raised her to an unexpected position but she should have been in second place behind Amber Glenn and ahead of her. defending champion Isa beau Leviton.

But Lee, who lives in Irvine and trains at Lakewood Ice, has another less obvious talent: He can solve a Rubik’s cube with his feet. He played a video of his feet for the Times but was too modest to share. Suffice it to say that if finishing the Rubik’s cube at your feet became a winter Olympic sport, he would be in contention for a gold medal.

He solved it with his hands, but he didn’t stop there. One time I was driving for a long time and I was really bored, so I decided to put the Rubik’s cube on the floor. For about an hour he said. It’s good ankle exercise. It’s not a traditional teaching method, but it’s working for him.

Lee is too young to compete at the senior level in this year’s World Championships, but she will participate in the Junior World Championships later this month in Taiwan, aiming to better her 19th-place finish from last year. He is trying to stay current while positioning himself to earn a spot on the US team at the Winter Olympic – Milano Cortina 2026 Games, a difficult balance to maintain.

Josephine Lee: A Promising Talent on the Road to Winter Olympic – Milano Cortina 2026

He has talent and character. He was 4 years old when his father, Jeff, a computer programmer, took him to a playground near his office. it was, he joked, the only person who failed a Tot 1 learn-to-skate class. However, he knew the challenges and emotions that achieving the game offered.

That determination carried him through a broken back when he was 11 years old, and fueled his efforts to overcome jumps and spins on the way to living his Olympic dreams.

I think he’s got a good chance. I think his work ethic and determination to get there is better than anyone I’ve seen out there, his coach said., Amy Evident of Los Felix.

The good thing about him is that you ask him to work on something or you work on something with him, but the next day is better. He is using everything and trying to take command or order or whatever is told to him. He will make sure it is done. And I think she has a good chance like Amber and Isa beau and Lindsay Thronged, whoever is one of the best players.

Lee did not think highly of himself in the American Championship because he felt he did not live up to his potential this season. He was first after the short program in the Cranberry Cup junior event but fell to third overall, and he finished eighth in the Grand Prix junior event in Linz, Austria. He won the Pacific Championship.

A Young Skating Resilience on the Road to Winter Olympic – Milano Cortina 2026

Part of the problem is that he has grown to about 5-foot-4 in the last year and has become uncomfortable with his growing body. It was a little hard to adjust to that he said but I think my skating has matured. Evidently there was concern for Lee before the American campaign.

Winter Olympic 2026 Tickets | Olympic Figure Skating Tickets |

Because he worked so hard and I just wanted to give him two programs where he could walk away and he could say, ‘I’m so proud that I did that said Evident. My hope is that he just goes and enjoys himself and learns about himself through this process.

Lee came in fifth place after the short program. That was a good win because a costly mistake in an element in last year’s short program left him in 11th place, giving him a steep climb to fifth place. This time, he pulled off a triple-triple-triple-toe combo and set sail.

He was close to a pin. Suddenly his expectations arose. Then I was like, ‘Holy shit, I’ve never been in this situation before he said.

He handled the pressure beautifully, enjoying his performance rather than ticking off each element in his mind like a shopping list. He made seven triple jumps without a single negative penalty kick from any of the nine judges; although he performed a triple-double axel-double axel sequence instead of a triple-triple combination, he scored 138.85 points, a personal best and three points more than Glenn’s average. His final total was 204.13 points.

Winter Olympic – Josephine Lee: Rising to the Challenge

His only misstep occurred when overwhelmed by the event, he tried to leave the ice through the Zamboni door instead of the skaters’ door.

You go on a show and you see a girl like that and you go, ‘Okay girl, you can do this Evident said. Just six more jumps. OK, you can continue doing this. You can sit up. Keep going.

They were both surprised and happy with his score, but there were four skaters left. Lee and Evident didn’t know if his No. 1 ranking would last for the program long and they didn’t know where he would end up.

Olympic Figure Skating Tickets

Lee did not see the final scorers or check the standings. My eyebrows fell off and I used them again. They fell when I cried kiss-and-cry. So I didn’t watch much of Amber’s whole game Lee said.

But my friends were texting me, saying, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to stop.’ Isa beau that’s why I didn’t watch him. But I didn’t know I won the freestyle until it was over. The way later.

Winter Olympic – Overcoming Nerves: Josephine Lee’s Journey to a Surprising Victory

Glenn and Leviton are on their way to the world championship, but Lee said he does not regret going back to the small worlds. His mother, lawyer Caroline Tseng, is from Taiwan, so Lee welcomes the opportunity to visit.

Since he didn’t expect to be good enough at the U.S. championships to be selected for the world junior team, the opportunity to gain high-level international experience was a bonus. I’m very grateful for this chance he said. He will face high expectations. Evident, who started coaching him at the end of 2020, believes that he is more prepared than last year.

I think with experience you know a lot of things. And he knows how to handle himself in a lot of things. So I think he’s going to be able to thrive in that environment. this year said Evident. My only hope for him, as I told him recently is to remain faithful. in his hard work. And stay in the moment, because I think everything else comes from that.

We are happy that Italy is improving said Marco Fabric, who won the ice dance bronze medal with partner Charlene Grignard in Saturday’s Final. We have really good skaters now, which is good for the development of our community. There’s a lot of pressure to skate in front of your home audience, but sometimes there’s no motivation.

Grignard and Fabric are 33 and 34 respectively, so by the time Milano-Cortina comes around, they may have to pass the torch to the next generation. But so far they are four-time winners in Italy, finished fifth at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and won the French and English Grand Prix in November.

Winter Olympic: Excitement in Pairs Figure Skating — Conti and Maci’s Bronze Medal Triumph

Skating in Italy is improving from having only two pairs before, now there are many Gaillardia added. They’re getting better for the men and the ladies. All the teams are working together.

Perhaps the loudest was Torino Pala vela in the Grand Prix Final when Nikolay Mamola won the junior men’s race. Winter Olympic dreams brought figure skater Deanna Stellato-Dudek back to the sport

Maturity is a plus, not a minus. It’s one of the many confidence zingers that Deanna Stellato-Dudek delivers while telling her fascinating story.

He’s a 40-year-old doubles figure skater who wants to compete for Canada at the Winter Olympic 2026. It’s an winter Olympic dream he left unfulfilled when he retired from sport at 17 years old.

The Chicago native was a silver medalist at the 2000 junior world championships in women’s singles for the United States, but withdrew due to injury. She got on with life – finished high school and started working as a medical esthetician.

Once he turned 30, he abruptly abandoned his burgeoning career in 2016 to become a skater again, sober.I was super clear when I first put the skates on Stellato-Dudek recalled to The Globe and Mail earlier this month. I went in that first day to come back and do the winter Olympic he said.

Now the trip is on full throttle. He and 31-year-old Mont realer Maxima Descamps are Canada’s top duo – a partnership that has grown since auditioning together in 2019. They’ve won a national title and a handful of international medals. Their first competition at the ISU Grand Prix is this weekend at Skate Canada International in Vancouver.

Winter Olympic: Deanna Stellato-Dudek’s Inspiring Comeback Journey

The discipline has long required young players – jumping, spinning, flipping – to be fearless enough to be thrown through the air on blades to be fit enough to work on a daily basis. The next oldest contestant is like 24 he jokes.

The older he gets, the faster he learns, and he is now much more physically aware than he was when he was a teenager. He talks on a different level with coaches now, too: We’re all sharing input, versus being coached the way I was when I was a kid. Now they don’t have to tell me what to do.

He has many supporters. Yet he notes naysayers, too, especially on social media, with their biting criticism – those who don’t know him but expect a 40-year-old figure skater to have limitations.

There are good people who are strongly opposed to me and will speak negatively about me, he said. I’m on a personal mission to prove to those people that not only can I do it at this age, but I can be competitive. I won’t just be there. I’ll be on the podium.

It was on a work retreat in 2016 that she had the ah-ha moment that forced her to get the skates out of her mother’s basement 16 years later. In an activity with her colleagues, Stellato-Dudek had to answer the question, “What would you do if you knew you couldn’t make a mistake?

His answer: Win a winter Olympic gold medal.

Winter Olympic: Deanna Stellato-Dudek’s Bold Comeback and Determination

All I could think about in my car was going home, he said. I don’t believe what I said.

He was in the thick of a successful career. Working for a plastic surgeon, he handled the non-surgical side of his business, which included procedures such as photo manipulation and aesthetic sculpting. He built it from its inception into a seven figure business.

Can she return to figure skating? His teenage years in the game took place at a different time, while still using 6.0 score, during a high day for single women and stars like Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya. On top of her world junior silver medal, Stellato-Dudek won the ISU Junior Grand Prix final in the 1999-2000 season.

In the years since her retirement, she has stayed in good shape with Pilates, running and weights. On his first day back in the ring after 16 years, his double jumps came right back. For three months, he skied four early mornings a week before work, plus every Saturday. Later, he took a few days off to consult with his old teacher, Cindy Watson Carpel, in Florida.

The coach said he looked like a skier coming back from an injury layoff of several months, not someone who hadn’t worn boots in a decade and a half. Other American coaches were there and knew Stellato-Dudek. One suggested the five-foot skater try doubles – an idea he rejected as a teenager, but in the second round, he was ready for anything.

You have to be a special kind of girl who likes to throw things around, to put things down, and to get high in the air, he said. So I tried it, and man, I really liked it.

Deanna Stellato-Dudek: A Remarkable Return to Winter Olympic Figure Skating

Stellato-Dudek did competitive sports as a child, so the memories of flying high and facing down are familiar. He decided to ski full time and quit his job. He moved to Florida to partner with Nathan Bartholomew, who played for the US in the 2014 Olympics.

Winter Olympic 2026 Tickets | Olympic Figure Skating Tickets

They competed together until the beginning of 2019, when Bartholomew was injured. There were no seasons to wait for Stellato-Dudek to recover, so they parted amicably. He was worried about finding a new partner because of his age.

I was like 36, 37 at the time, and all the guys were definitely going to be younger than me he said. They have to make a decision about skiing with me.

A coach recommended Descamps, a Canadian who worked with eight partners. They were quickly fired up and Stellato-Dudek canceled out his other attempts. He was impressed by his rock-solid strength on the ice and his determination to keep going.

I thought ‘how did I not know about this guy’ he said. And why hasn’t he conquered the worlds?

Stellato-Dudek moved to Montreal to study with him, and they both studied his Canadian citizenship and became an American citizen. The Canadian option seemed more promising so they began the process. He is hoping for a Canadian passport before the winter Olympic 2026.

Not long after they teamed up, the disease came, which interrupted their competition and training. They also faced other obstacles: waiting for his release from the US Figure Skating Association, and overcoming illnesses.

Deanna Stellato-Dudek: Navigating Challenges on the Path to winter Olympic Dreams

I was able to throw in the towel, but I still have unfinished business he said. I didn’t want to depart with that same feeling. The landscape of athletics has changed after the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Some of Canada’s top couples have retired or split up.

Russian competitors were prohibited from participating due to the war in Ukraine. The stage was set for the new pair to push their way onto the podium. Descamps and Stellato-Dudek, led by José Picard, won gold at the Nebelhorn Trophy, silver at Skate America, gold at the Grand Prix de France. They finished fourth in the Grand Prix Final, claimed victory at the 2023 nationals in Oshawa, and secured fourth place in the World Championships.

The 2023-24 season has begun. The World Championships will take place in Montreal in March. They need to keep up the pace and become more technically motivated to stay among the best Canadians and fight for medals. Stellato-Dudek has a passion for technical details and aspires to become a ski judge one day.

When people look at them this year, they’re going to notice a much stronger team, said Mike Slipshod, senior director at Skate Canada. They were close last year, just on the verge of winning a world medal.

Their short program in Oxygen from Cirque du Soleil celebrates French-Canadian culture. Their free spin on Interview with a Vampire tells a violent story in which Stellato-Dudek portrays a vampire and bites Descamps, prompting a costume is displayed in the vehicle view. She delved into vampire books, movies and TV shows. He says his on-ice skills have improved with age.

Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxima Descamps: Chasing winter Olympic Glory in a New Era

I’m a woman, I’ve been in love, I’ve had heartbreak and relationship turmoil Stellato-Dudek said. I can bring that life experience to my image on the ice.

While a quick warm-up was fine in the teenage years, he considers a full hour warm-up before rolling now non-negotiable. She does it often at home at night, taking Epsom-salt baths and using cold water in her apartment. It also works hard in the mental area.

When you’re really tired, your body can do it, your mind doesn’t want to says Stellato-Dudek, who uses exercise videos and works with a sports psychologist. You have to find a way to get up and push yourself to do it.

Yet, despite the rich history of figure skating at the Winter Olympics, the 41-year-old is laser-focused on securing Olympic gold. There was no rest, no time to reflect Stellato-Dudek remarked about her off-season as world champion. It’s just back to work, to the big goal of the winter Olympic in February 2026.

Despite representing Canada at the worlds, Stellato-Dudek, who was born and raised in the US, cannot compete at the Olympics without Canadian citizenship – something that she is still looking but is still optimistic about consolidating before the Winter Olympic – Milano Cortina 2026 games.

Stellato-Dudek has completed the necessary paperwork, and a petition on Change.org has collected almost 10,000 signatures. There is also precedent for winter Olympic figure skaters to receive Canadian citizenship before the Games, including Kaitlyn Weaver, Piper Gilles and Lisbon Ilyushechkina.

Covid threw a lot into everyone’s plans and slowed everything down for years Stellato-Dudek said. But I’m very confident that I’ll achieve it before the Winter Olympics when I need to have it. The pair, who joined forces in 2019, have shared that Olympic goal since their partnership began.

Historic Achievement: Stellato-Dudek and Descamps Capture World Title in Montreal

Stellato-Dudek, a former junior silver medalist from Chicago, retired at age 17 with a hip injury and returned to the sport 16 years later. Skate Canada’s main event manager Mike Slipshod used to encourage Stellato-Dudek with the words: You’re not defending something, so you’re pushing it. Worlds later he said Maybe I’m defending now Slipshod said. Because I have that philosophy so much.

Canada’s Appeal for Winter Olympic Figure Skating Medal Denied

But Descamps insists going from hunters to hunted hasn’t changed anything in the pair’s approach to competing on the world stage. We’re no different; what we accomplished last spring is behind us, and it’s something we’ll always have he said. But now our goal is to fight.

Stellato-Dudek and Descamps kick off their new program at the Nebelhorn Trophy on Thursday through Saturday in Oberstdorf, Germany.

Their short program features a remix of Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love while the free program includes four tracks:  Siren by Andrea Krux, Lux by Ryan Tubers, and two compositions by David Fleming, Hans Zimmer, and Jacob Shia.

Guided by coaches Josei Picard and Julie Marquette, Stellato-Dudek said their goal was to be as fresh and original as possible within the necessary elements. They also made changes, adding translations, introducing new topics and changing their lists to make it more interesting.

It’s really just going to come out this year a better version of us than last year Stellato-Dudek said.

If Olympic gold is the ultimate goal, Slipshod believes their experience in defending their world title will make them successful.

It puts more pressure on yourself, your expectations are higher, and you don’t want to get beat up she said. But you know what? Your kind of have to get past that. And it’s good that they’re going to get past this year after the winter Olympic versus the year after the winter Olympic because the spotlight is much brighter.

Where Team Canada Stands: An Overview

Stellato-Dudek and Descamps’ pair of golds proved Montreal was a top world champion, Slipshod said. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier also earned ice dance money, while Marjorie Louie and Zachary Langhe finished fifth, putting the team in good stead for the winter Olympic after a year and a half out.
But in singles, Canada needs to do better to stay competitive in Milan.

Madeline Schisms, 21, of Oakville, Ont., placed a career-low 18th in the women’s race.On the men’s side, Wesley Chiu of Vancouver finished 17th and Roman Sadoski of Vaughan, Ont., finished 19th. Barring a top-10 finish, the Canadian men and women each have one spot in the season at this time.We are optimistic that we can add an additional spot in the men’s and women’s competition this year at worlds Slipshod said. But now the fields are very deep. We expect someone to have that season and world championship performance to give us the best shot in the top 10.

I came in knowing exactly what I do every day, which means I now have the reps to feel confident coming into the fall he said. Schisms performed a Lion King program on the Stars On Ice tour, a big fan of Stellato-Dudek’s encouragement, and took it as his short program this season.

He was like, you should totally do it.’ So it was an easy choice for me, Schisms said. It’s just a really fun program, and I think it’s a great job of choreography and maturity.
