Almost immediately, social media platforms were filled with complaints from fans in Australia. The United Kingdom, Europe, and elsewhere have reported being stuck in online queues for hours. Many said the website either crashed or blocked their access before they could complete their purchases.

For supporters in the UK and Europe, the situation was especially exhausting. Some woke up in the middle of the night to join the queue, only to wait as long as six hours.

World Cup organisers acknowledged the heavy demand but insisted the system was working as planned. Posting on social media platform X, they said they were seeing extremely high demand for Rugby World Cup 2027 tickets. They explained that a queue system had been set up to ensure a fair and secure purchasing process and thanked fans for their patience.

Rugby World Cup Dream Delayed by Technical Chaos

However, for many supporters, patience had already run out. Greg O’Connor, a Brisbane resident and lifelong Wallabies fan, said he logged on before tickets officially went live in hopes of improving his chances. Instead, he spent six hours battling technical issues and came away empty-handed.

The first session I was on for two hours, and then I got dumped, O’Connor said. He received a message stating that his access had been restricted. Determined to try again, he rejoined the queue and waited another three and a half hours.

This time, he managed to reach the ticket selection page. But when he clicked the Buy Tickets button, the site failed again, displaying a message saying the page wasn’t working. At that point, he decided to give up.

O’Connor said he expected some waiting time due to high demand, but not repeated crashes. While disappointed, he noted that many other fans had shared similar experiences, suggesting the problems were widespread rather than isolated.

Lorraine Harris from Wollongong described an even longer ordeal. She said she spent 10 hours attempting to secure tickets without success. Frustrated and exhausted, she called the experience 10 hours of hell. The Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 is set to take place across seven Australian host cities from October to November.

Rugby World Cup Final: 2.5 Million Tickets Available for Rugby World Cup 2027

The final will be held at Sydney’s Stadium Australia. The tournament will feature 24 teams divided into six pools, followed by a knockout stage. In total, 52 matches will be played. Organisers have announced that 2.5 million tickets will be available for the tournament.

In response to questions about the technical issues, they released a formal statement defending the ticketing process. They said the system was performing as intended during the pre-sale period.  And was specifically designed to handle the large volumes of interest typically seen for a Rugby World Cup.

According to the organisers, long wait times are expected when demand is exceptionally high. They also emphasised that strong verification measures are in place to protect the integrity of the event.  And ensure tickets go to genuine fans rather than bots or resellers. Maintaining secure access, they said, remains their top priority.

The current pre-sale period runs until March 4. After that, another batch of tickets will be made available during a May application phase. If demand exceeds supply, that phase may be conducted as a ballot, giving fans a random chance to secure seats.

For now, though, many supporters remain frustrated. While organisers maintain the system is working as planned, fans who spent hours staring at loading screens and error messages feel let down.
