It’s about representing a proud island nation on a global platform and inspiring the next generation of Pacific women in sport. The match between Australia and Samoa carries with it a storm of purposeful conflict, not animosity. A shared hunger to take the next step. Australia aims to assert itself as a serious contender for the title. Samoa seeks to shatter expectations and make history. For the Wallaroos, structure and tactical clarity will be key.

For Samoa, it’s about unleashing their natural flair while maintaining discipline under pressure. The contact zones will be brutal, the breakdown fiercely contested. The backlines are eager to create space where little exists. Every tackle, every run, every decision will matter. Beyond the field, the match is symbolic of the broader evolution of the women’s game. Australia represents a developed rugby system investing in professionalism and pathways.

Two Paths, One Dream, Australia and Samoa’s Powerful Pursuit of Purpose and Pride

Samoa, by contrast, stands as a voice for the emerging nations. Fighting for visibility, opportunity, and respect on the same stage. Their meeting reflects not only the diversity of playing styles but the shared dream of elevating women’s rugby across regions, borders, and generations. As the teams prepare to face off, their aims are clear, but their roads have been vastly different. Australia looks to solidify a legacy.

Samoa aims to create one. In this match, there will be no shortage of passion, no lack of heart. Only two determined teams are fighting not just for progression, but for purpose. Though their paths, resources, and histories differ vastly. Yet, on the field, they stand as equals, two teams chasing. The same dream with heart, grit, and unshakable pride. Australia’s squad has approached this tournament with the ambition of restoring its place among the sport’s top-tier nations. With a well-resourced program, high-level coaching, and a balanced blend of experience and youth.

Different Roads, Same Fire, Australia’s Ambition Meets Samoa’s Unyielding Spirit

The Wallaroos have steadily grown in confidence. Their campaign has been defined by calculated execution and tactical maturity. Every player in the squad has bought into a collective vision. To not only win matches but to play a brand of rugby that represents Australia’s evolving identity in the women’s game. Behind their structured play lies a deeper mission, to bring the trophy back to Australia and prove that the Wallaroos are once again a force to be reckoned with on the world stage.

Samoa, meanwhile, carries the fire of a nation that has long fought for recognition and respect in global rugby. Their squad enters every game not only as competitors but as ambassadors for Pacific pride, culture, and resilience. Unlike their Australian counterparts, Samoa’s road to the World Cup has involved overcoming limited resources and far less international exposure. But what they may lack in infrastructure.

They more than make up for it in spirit, unity, and raw talent. The bond within the squad is unbreakable, forged by shared heritage, community support. A hunger to inspire future generations of Samoan women to dream bigger. Every tackle they make, every line they break, is a statement: they belong here. The quest for glory drives both teams, but their motivations are nuanced and deeply personal.

A Battle of Identities, Contrasting Journeys, Shared Belief, and One Ultimate Goal

For Australia, the final stages of the tournament are about fulfilling potential. Honouring the hard work of a national system and delivering under pressure. For Samoa, it is about defying the odds, breaking barriers, and creating history. Each squad is fueled by the same desire to reach the summit, but their climb has been shaped by vastly different challenges. That contrast adds intensity and meaning to the encounter.

This is not merely a tactical contest, it’s a battle of identities. Within each camp, belief runs deep. Australia’s training sessions are filled with sharp execution and quiet determination. Leaders in the squad are setting the tone. While young stars are embracing the moment with composure beyond their years. The team knows what’s at stake and they are prepared to fight for every inch. Across the pitch, Samoa’s preparations are emotional and driven.

A Contest of Purpose, Passion, and Lasting Impact

Their squad trains with joy and freedom, but also with the weight of representing an entire region. A cause greater than any single player. Their confidence comes not from expectation, but from purpose. When these two teams meet, the match will be defined not only by skill, but by sacrifice, spirit, and the will to win. Australia will look to dominate territory and apply relentless pressure through their forward pack.

Samoa will look to disrupt, counter, and unleash their physical runners in open play. It will be a contest of precision versus unpredictability. Depth versus desire, and tradition versus transformation. In the end, no matter who advances or lifts the trophy. The impact of this match will be felt far beyond the result. Australia and Samoa, each in their way, are redefining what glory means. Not just measured in silverware.

That year, England’s women’s football team lifted the European Championship trophy on home soil. A landmark victory that not only captivated the nation but also led to a significant surge in grassroots participation among girls. Now, with the stage set for another major tournament. Leaders and advocates are optimistic that the momentum generated could inspire a new generation of women and girls. To engage with sport, not just as spectators, but as players and community changemakers.

Raising the Bar for Global Sport: Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 at the Heart

As the world looks ahead to the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. Key figures in international sport believe this summer could prove to be a historic turning point for women’s sporting visibility and equality. Sally Horrox, director of women’s rugby at World Rugby. Called the event era-defining during a special BBC Radio 5 Live programme Names Will Be Made. Dedicated to celebrating the BBC’s Women’s Summer of Sport. She emphasized that the tournament will not only showcase elite-level rugby. But also, challenge outdated perceptions, helping the sport shift from niche to mainstream. And opening doors for young girls worldwide to see rugby as a viable passion and profession.

Changing the Landscape of Participation Through Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

Horrox believes the influence of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 will extend well beyond stadiums and television screens. The tournament’s impact, she argued, could serve as a critical moment for transforming grassroots access. Particularly by inspiring national federations to invest more in youth pathways and local clubs for girls. Much like England’s Lionesses did following their Euro 2022 triumph. The Red Roses have a chance to galvanize a nationwide movement. Schools. Clubs, and communities are expected to see a spike in demand for rugby access among girls. Something that can only be sustained with strategic planning and inclusive programming. Also Observe Women’s Rugby World Cup Preview

Football’s Blueprint Inspires Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Vision

The dramatic growth of women’s football in England is being used as a model for what could unfold following the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. Kelly Simmons, former director of women’s football at the FA. Recalled that when she first joined the organization, there were only 80 registered teams for women and girls across the entire country. Today, over three million women and girls are actively involved in football. That exponential rise was powered by visibility, role models. And national investment and rugby stakeholders now see an opportunity to replicate that progress. By offering better pathways, media coverage, and cultural support systems.

Building on Past Success for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Legacy

Dame Katherine Grainger, chair of the British Olympic Association and an Olympic gold medalist herself. Views the upcoming summer as a critical inflection point for progress in women’s sport. She believes the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 offers not just a moment to celebrate. But a chance to set long-term change in motion. Whether it’s breaking attendance records, normalizing female voices in coaching and commentary. Or influencing national policy. Grainger envisions a future where such tournaments become powerful platforms. For broader societal transformation, particularly in removing the invisible barriers still faced by women athletes at all levels.

Taking Action Beyond the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Headlines

Grainger stressed that the impact of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 and other events must be measured in actions, not headlines. She hopes that a year from now, people can point to real shifts in legislation. Funding, or public attitudes—and say, this is now different. The key, she says, lies in converting enthusiasm into long-lasting improvements. Such as equal access to facilities, sponsorship opportunities, and career support for female athletes. These changes require governments, federations. Media, and fans to remain engaged long after the tournament spotlight fades.

Women’s Experiences and Health Must Shape the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Era

In a sport as physically demanding as rugby, the conversation around female athlete health has never been more critical. Cassie Patten, an Olympic bronze medalist in swimming and now a mother of three. Shared a deeply personal experience of being chastised by a male coach for not training during her period. Her story, shared on the BBC programme, resonated with many other athletes. And underscored the lack of understanding still prevalent in some coaching environments. As the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 aims to be more inclusive and scientifically informed. Addressing these biological realities could improve both performance and athlete welfare.

Closing the Gender Gap in Sports Coaching and Culture

Young boxer Tia Miah-Ayton, 18, brought attention to the added pressure of having to manage menstrual cycles. While meeting strict weight targets in combat sports. The fact that missing weight even by a fraction can result in canceled fights. Adds to the psychological burden. Many athletes spoke of the struggle of having predominantly male coaches. Who lack the education or experience to address these needs effectively. However, the tide is slowly turning, with more national programs hiring female coaches. And creating safer spaces for female athletes to speak openly about their bodies and their needs.

Bridging the Research Gap in Female Physiology

Scientific research into how women’s bodies function in elite sport is still shockingly underdeveloped. Dr Pippa Bennett, clinical governance director at the UK Sports Institute. And Dr Emma O’Donnell, a leading physiology researcher. Both raised red flags about the quality and quantity of studies related to menstrual health and performance. Despite 40 years of limited research, we remain far from a clear understanding of how hormonal fluctuations affect training and recovery. This gap affects everything from injury prevention to nutrition plans and needs urgent investment. If women’s sport is to be treated with the same rigor as men’s.

Tackling Barriers Through Better Equipment and Design

Professor Joanna Wakefield-Scurr, a biomechanics expert, spoke about the vital role. That properly designed sports bras can play in athletic performance. She revealed that breast discomfort is one of the top reasons girls quit sport and shared research indicating that poor support can shorten a runner’s stride by up to 4cm. Resulting in a mile lost over marathon distance. Yet, funding for research into breast health in sport remains minimal. The good news is that some major sportswear brands are finally beginning. To invest in this area, collaborating with experts to create gear that supports rather than hinders athletes.

Rethinking Kit Design and Inclusivity in Sport

Uniform design continues to be a major concern for female athletes. Particularly in team sports where kits are often adapted from men’s designs. This mismatch in fit and functionality can hinder performance, create discomfort, and even lead to injuries. However, thanks to growing awareness. More federations are now involving women in the design process. Resulting in apparel that better suits their needs and builds confidence. For young athletes especially, having well-fitting, thoughtfully designed kits can be the difference. Between staying in sport or walking away from it entirely.

Confronting Body Image and Societal Norms

The panel also explored how body image remains a significant barrier for many women and girls in sport. Female athletes often feel caught between the physical demands of elite performance and societal beauty standards that prize thinness over strength. This disconnect can affect mental health, self-esteem, and retention in sport. The solution, many agreed, lies in changing the public narrative by showcasing diverse athletic bodies. As the norm and celebrating strength and function over appearance. Role models, media campaigns, and inclusive marketing will be key in reshaping these outdated perceptions.

Progress Acknowledged, But Work Remains

Jenny Henderson, performance manager at England Golf. Concluded by acknowledging that while the sporting world has come a long way. Especially in visibility and opportunity, many systemic issues remain unresolved. From pay disparities and lack of leadership representation to medical support gaps. And persistent stereotypes, the road ahead is still long. Yet, the collective energy of this summer’s events offers a powerful foundation. With continued collaboration across disciplines and sectors. There is a real chance to embed lasting change. And ensure the next generation of girls enters a sporting world far more inclusive than the one that came before.

For the ex-Red Roses leader, one word is vital: believe. That message is central for anyone aspiring to enter coaching. Her central fact at the Grassroots to International Forum was that women must back themselves. Self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy are dominant, especially in high-ranking roles. This is more mutual among women.

But belief must prevail. Hunter urged attendees to trust their capabilities and talents. They can accomplish anything. Success stems from courage. Every path starts there. While discussing leadership and identity, Hunter opened up about becoming a parent.

From Repetitive Rows to Rugby’s Grand Stage

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Catha Jacobs’ journey to the top of women’s rugby has been anything but conventional. Once immersed in the repetitive grind of rowing, she balanced early mornings and endless drills before discovering rugby’s raw energy. A nudge from her rowing teammate, Lifa Hlongwa, prompted her to try the sport again. And she was instantly captivated. Though her parents wanted her to stick with rowing. Jacobs felt rugby offered something different: excitement, unpredictability, and a deeper emotional pull.

Reclaiming Rugby After Childhood Barriers

Jacobs’ early introduction to rugby was met with institutional rejection. As a primary school student. She watched two girls play at a local tournament and returned inspired. Only to be told by her principal that girls weren’t allowed to play. That moment silenced her rugby dreams for over a decade. It wasn’t until her early 20s that Jacobs, then a university student. Saw female players training again. This time, she refused to let the opportunity slip away. She joined the University of Johannesburg’s team, rediscovered the ball and never looked back.

Seizing Opportunity and Adapting to the 15s Format

Initially recruited into South Africa’s Sevens program. Jacobs’ journey was disrupted by COVID-19. With both Sevens and 15s players training under one system. Athletes were asked to choose a path. Though she had doubts about her ability to handle the physicality of 15s. Jacobs raised her hand anyway. That leap of faith paid off, marking the start of a new era in her career. By 2021, she had debuted in a full Test match against Kenya. And impressed with her athleticism, earning continued trust from then-head coach Stanley Raubenheimer.

A Life-Altering Email and the Move to England

Her progress reached new heights when she received a surprising email from Saracens. One she initially thought was a scam. With disbelief in her voice, she showed the message to South Africa’s High-Performance Manager. Lynne Cantwell, who helped confirm its legitimacy. The reality soon sank in: one of England’s top clubs wanted her. With a mix of excitement and fear, Jacobs stayed behind after a tour and travelled. To England to sign her first professional contract, stepping into a world of elite rugby at Saracens.

Struggles, Support, and Glory in the PWR

Settling in England wasn’t easy. Jacobs battled homesickness. Adapted to unfamiliar weather and food, and dealt with the mental weight of being far from family. However, her Saracens teammates—Grace Moore. Sharifa Kasolo, Fiona McIntosh, Mari Venter, and Maya Montiel—helped her adjust. She quickly became part of a sisterhood that supported her through personal and professional challenges. In 2022, her resilience was rewarded when she lifted the PWR trophy with Saracens. A testament to her dedication and ability to grow under pressure.

New Goals with Leicester and the Bigger Picture

Despite her success, Jacobs yearned for more game time and opted to join Leicester Tigers for a fresh start. She was approached by former England prop Rocky Clark. Who was helping develop the team. Jacobs saw it as an opportunity to build something from the ground up. While Tigers may still be finding their feet in the league. She believes their focus on team culture and unity will pay off. Above all, her aim remains clear: help South Africa make history, reach the knockout stages of the World Cup, and leave a legacy for future generations of Springbok Women.

Cocksedge said sportspeople will be put into tiers. We’re looking at a three-tier scheme. There’ll be one that’s nice for a wristwatch. Which would be about them sifting into mace rugby. And then that another one power be local union colleges or the Farah Palmer Cup. And the third row would be possibly into a nationwide programme. Which is that kind of growth level?

A Dream Ignited by the Spirit of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

With the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 fast approaching. Fiji’s Taina Basiyalo wasn’t just dreaming of watching the tournament. She wanted to live and breathe the experience. It wasn’t about tickets or fame. It was about being part of something bigger than herself. Something that championed women’s voices in rugby. For Taina, the World Cup symbolized passion, strength, and purpose qualities that echoed in her own aspirations. Her goal was to find a meaningful way to contribute to the sport she loved. And she believed the path could begin with storytelling.

Seeking Guidance Ahead of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

In November 2024, driven by curiosity and determination. Taina reached out to Sally Eeles from ABC International Development. Inquiring if any initiatives were planned under the Women in News & Sport (WINS) program to support the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England. Sally’s warm and encouraging response offered something more valuable than information. It offered belief. That message lit a spark in Taina’s heart, giving her the confidence to trust her voice. Her story, and the possibility that this World Cup dream could take shape in unexpected ways. Read Also Women’s Rugby World Cup Sparks

An Opportunity Aligned with Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

Just a few months later, an opportunity emerged through the Rugby Commentary & Mobile Journalism Program (CAMP). Jointly developed by ABC International Development and Oceania Rugby’s Women’s Rugby Projects lead. Sheridan Graham-Tupaea. As preparations for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 gained momentum. Taina knew this program aligned perfectly with her ambitions. Out of over 70 applicants from across the Pacific, she was selected among 20 women to undergo four weeks of online training. Marking the first step of a deeply empowering experience.

Stepping into a New World Before Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

From the online training, only eight women were selected to attend the in-person CAMP in Sigatoka, Fiji. For Taina, arriving at the training site was both exciting and nerve-racking. On that first morning, she felt quiet and uncertain, wondering if this would be just another professional workshop. But as the days unfolded, she began to realize that this was more than preparation for rolls around the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. It was a life-changing journey. It became a safe space where each woman’s voice was heard, and each story mattered.

Growth and Mentorship Around Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

The eight days in Sigatoka were filled with growth, vulnerability, and transformation. Taina found inspiration not just from the carefully designed sessions. But from the powerful women around her. Each participant brought different experiences journalists. Athletes, community leaders and each contributed unique insights. Having mentors like Aaron Kearney provide structure and clarity made the sessions feel both approachable and purposeful. As the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 loomed closer. It felt like they were all preparing to help amplify women’s rugby on a global scale.

Inspiration That Echoes the Spirit of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

One unforgettable session came with Rikki Swannell. The celebrated rugby commentator known for her trailblazing work in women’s sport. Her personal stories of starting out, stumbling, and persevering through the male-dominated world of sports commentary struck a deep chord with Taina. Rikki reminded the group that you don’t need to be perfect you just need to be prepared. passionate, and present. With the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 set to shine a spotlight on women’s rugby. Taina felt ready to bring her voice to that celebration.

Learning from the Whistle

Another key moment came during a session with Kuini Vuli. One of Fiji’s most respected referees and a strong advocate for women in rugby. Kuini’s lessons offered a brand-new perspective. Teaching the group how to interpret referee signals. Understand field positions, and anticipate decisions during live play. These insights added a technical foundation that greatly enhanced Taina’s understanding of match flow. For her, this was a turning point; it was no longer just about passion. It was about precision and expertise behind the mic.

Finding Her Voice

For years, Taina knew she had a voice suited for broadcasting. But she often hesitated, worrying about getting every sentence right. Every line had to sound like a gold nugget she once believed. But through the CAMP program, she learned to let go of perfection. Aaron Kearney’s advice helped her realize that authenticity was far more powerful than polish. She began to trust herself to speak freely, confidently and with clarity. For the first time, she felt like she had the tools and the space to truly be herself.

A Deeper Connection to Rugby

As the training progressed, something beautiful unfolded. Taina’s relationship with rugby deepened. The game stopped being just a career opportunity and started becoming part of her identity. It wasn’t just about commentary anymore; it was about understanding the soul of the sport. Through this program, she began to feel a renewed sense of purpose. Finding joy not only in speaking about rugby but in connecting communities through her storytelling. What once felt like a task had now become her sanctuary. A place where she could thrive and be heard.

Creative Impact Beyond the Sidelines

Among the standout moments of the program was a practical content creation session. Armed with guidance and encouragement. Taina stepped onto the field and produced a short segment that she proudly shared. The results were immediate her video was picked up by ABC Pacific and Rugby Australia. And it quickly gained traction on Instagram and other platforms. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. And it validated not only her effort, but her ability to create engaging, professional content. It proved her voice had value and reach far beyond her own expectations.

Building a Lasting Sisterhood

While the knowledge gained during CAMP was invaluable. What Taina cherishes most is the community that was formed. The eight women bonded deeply, not just as colleagues, but as sisters. They lifted each other up, shared contacts, celebrated wins, and held space for each other’s challenges. The experience proved that when women come together with shared passion and purpose. They build more than skills they build solidarity. It was no longer about individual success. But collective progress for women in rugby media across the Pacific.

Staying Connected Across the Islands

Even after the training ended, the connections remained strong. From island to island, the women continue to check in collaborate, and support one another. Whether it’s through WhatsApp messages or impromptu voice calls. They’ve built a communication network that stretches across the region. Now, whenever we need updates from our island homes. We know exactly who to call Taina shared with pride. The CAMP program wasn’t just a stepping stone for their careers. It was the beginning of a legacy rooted in sisterhood, storytelling, and strength.

I just wanted to make sure on my return to rugby I was doing something. I was excited to do, to make the most of the opportunity I had. Obviously being very lucky to be back playing, she shared. Her words underline a deep appreciation for the chance to compete again at the highest level. With Trailfinders offering an environment that reignites her passion and drive just in time for a critical year ahead.

Recovery Journey Toward Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

With the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 drawing near. Emma Wassell’s story stands out as one of resilience and unshakable determination. The Scotland lock was forced out of the game for nearly nine months due to a serious health scare. And each stage of her recovery brought a new challenge. Her return wasn’t just about regaining fitness. It was about rediscovering her purpose and identity through rugby. Throughout her recovery, Wassell held onto one consistent hope: that she would one day wear her country’s colours again on the world stage.

Major Surgery Before Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Goals

In September 2024, just under a year before the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. Wassell’s world was shaken when she discovered a tumor in her chest. The diagnosis led to a full sternotomy, an invasive surgery involving the splitting of the breastbone to access the heart and chest cavity. The procedure and its aftermath were both physically painful and emotionally exhausting. But rather than retreat, she channeled her energy into recovery. Determined to meet the ambitious goal of returning to the international game in time for Scotland’s World Cup preparations. Observe Also Women’s Rugby World Cup Sparks

Club Commitment in Light of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

Following her recovery, Wassell made a bold and calculated move to switch clubs ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. After leaving Loughborough Lightning in April. She signed with Trailfinders, a Premiership Women’s Rugby club offering a new environment and fresh challenges. I very instantly got a feeling I would be a valued member. She said of the switch. The move wasn’t just about changing jerseys. It marked a turning point in her personal and professional journey. After so many months of uncertainty, she found a place where she could grow, contribute, and be supported.

Scottish Pride and Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Motivation

Wearing the Scotland jersey again is more than a career milestone for Wassell. t’s a deeply personal moment of triumph, especially as the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 looms. She admits that being back in the training camp brings a sense of fulfilment she had longed for during her recovery. I’ll have a huge amount of pride pulling back on the Scottish jersey, she said. The structured, high-intensity club environment with Trailfinders also gives her the day-to-day rhythm. And competitive edge she craves, keeping her sharp and ready for international demands.

Club-Level Competition Before Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

With the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 just months away. Wassell recognizes how her club experience is shaping her preparation. Competing in England’s top flight has exposed her to a melting pot of rugby talent players from Canada, the U.S., and beyond. I sometimes think the most I have pushed myself has been in club rugby she admitted. Unlike international selection where roles are somewhat defined. Club rugby demands constant performance and versatility. Every training session becomes an audition, making it a fertile ground for growth and refinement ahead of the biggest stage.

A Difficult Pre-Season Ahead of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

The grueling pre-season regime with Scotland has not been easy, but Wassell embraces it. Fully aware of what’s at stake with the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 nearing. She described the atmosphere as tough but admitted she had craved being pushed since returning to full health. Feeling strong and safe once again, she thrives in the challenge of rebuilding not just her physical fitness. But her tactical sharpness. With selection for the World Cup squad pending. Every day is a new chance to prove herself worthy of another run on the global stage.

A Full-Time Focus on the Game

Now fully dedicated to rugby, Wassell’s life is streamlined around training, recovery. And performance. Unlike earlier in her career when she balanced a full-time job alongside her rugby commitments. She now has the space and support to give everything to the sport. Everything I’ve done has been based on how I can get back she reflected. From meal planning to sleep schedules, every choice is made to enhance her return. That laser focus is a privilege not lost on her. She knows what it means to have time, health, and a second chance.

Unbreakable Bonds with Teammates

The tight-knit nature of the Scotland squad has provided both emotional stability and moments of joy. We’re absolutely terrible, Wassell joked about the team’s inability to stay apart even on days off. The camaraderie built during these intense training blocks has become an anchor for many players, especially Wassell. The laughter over coffee dates and shared inside jokes are more than distractions they’re part of the healing. This unity off the field directly fuels the cohesion and morale. That will be needed when the squad lines up for their next international tests.

A Healing Road Trip with Her Brother

Before the grind of pre-season resumed, Wassell took a meaningful break with her brother Terry on a road trip across the Scottish countryside. The journey gave them time to reconnect after a whirlwind year that included her surgery. And the tragic passing of their mother in April 2024. It was one of the few occasions where the two had space to breathe. Talk, and enjoy life outside rugby. It was very special, she said, adding that those quiet days together helped her put everything into perspective and reminded her what really matters.

Family Support Through the Toughest Times

For Wassell, the path back to rugby has never been just about sport. It has been about honoring her resilience, and the unwavering support from her family. When you’re with family, that is when you put everything into perspective, she said. While her love for rugby drove her recovery, it was her bond with her brother and memories of her mother that kept her grounded. The pressure she put on herself to return was immense. But those moments with family reminded her that her worth was never tied to the jersey alone.

Emotional Return in National Colours

There’s an unmistakable emotional weight behind Wassell’s return to international rugby. Pulling on the Scotland jersey again will bring a flood of memories of her surgery. Her mother’s passing, and the many uncertain days that followed. There will be many bittersweet moments she admitted. While representing Scotland at a second Rugby World Cup would be a career highlight. The absence of her biggest supporter her mum will be deeply felt. Still. She embraces the privilege of competing on the world stage, knowing her journey has inspired many.

A Brother’s Silent Pride

Wassell knows that her return to the international spotlight will mean just as much to her brother as it does to her. We’re not too gushy, she laughed, but I know he will be incredibly proud. Terry’s quiet strength and presence during her darkest moments have made him more than just family. He’s been her emotional rock. As she steps back onto the field, Wassell carries not only her own aspirations but the pride. Love, and hopes of the people who never stopped believing in her.

Miller most recently headed the Scotland men’s Under-18 squad at the Six Nations. And returned to the women’s setup earlier this month. Former Scarlets fly-half Shingler arrives on loan from the PWR club Trailfinders.

He has served as an assistant coach over the last season. Ex-England winger Banahan definite he is definitely grateful for his time with Scotland. But explained the prospect of a new coaching job nearer to family was impossible to reject. Easson stated this does now provide an exciting chance to reboot and renew our coaching structure.

We brought Steve into training camp during this year’s Six Nations and were genuinely impressed with him then. We have various athletes at Trailfinders, among them some of our top offensive players. Ross has settled back in superbly with us. We’ve enjoyed a fantastic couple of weeks as a unit with him to date.

We’ve collaborated for years, and he performed excellently with us at the previous Rugby World Cup. I think he’s a superb asset to our team. He is well-acquainted with the squad and vice versa. On his transition, Banahan remarked. I cherished my tenure with Scotland, and I’m sincerely appreciative for the chance to instruct at the elite level. Yet the opportunity to accept.

A new schooling closer to my origins was desirable. I’m deeply proud of everything the squad has accomplished in the past two years. Especially their WXV2 crown in 2023. This group is truly exceptional, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed connecting with them both professionally and personally. I send them my wholehearted wishes for success at the Rugby World Cup.

Ross Miller is back in the national fold as Assistant Coach (forwards). Stepping in for Fraser Brown, who wrapped up his advisory post with the group after the 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations. A former Melrose rugby player, Miller provides stability and familiarity to the team. He cooperated with them before the 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Recently, Miller achieved the Scotland Men U18 lateral at the Six Nations Centenary in April. He goes back into the women’s programme at the promotion of this pre-season stage. Joining Miller is Steve Shingler, who shoulders the role of Assistant Coach. He alternates with Matt Banahan, who opted to pursue another coaching pathway.

Scotland Women’s head coach Bryan Easson said he appreciated Matt’s efforts for the team. There is no question that the attacking game has developed in the two years he’s been involved. He feels this is an outstanding collective.

And loved building relationships with them. Both on the field and off it. He offered his warmest wishes for their journey in the Rugby World Cup and beyond. Easson added that this phase brings a strong moment to reshape and energise the coaching panel. He also thanked Trailfinders Women for making it possible to welcome Steve into their setup.

Steve had joined during the Six Nations earlier this year and made a solid impression. Several Trailfinders players, including leading attackers, already trust and understand Steve. Role Models Matter: Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Sparks Conversations on Inspiration

One of the most powerful elements of the campaign is a video conversation between Melanie C and Mo Hunt. In which they explore the importance of female role models and how sport shapes young lives. Their dialogue, set against the growing momentum of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. Underscores how seeing women succeed at the highest level can unlock ambition in girls everywhere. Melanie and Mo share their personal stories of confidence. Struggle, and self-belief offering a message that resonates far beyond the rugby pitch.

New Research Reflects the Urgency for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Legacy

New research from YouGov, released alongside the campaign, highlights the deep need for initiatives like this. An overwhelming 87% of women surveyed believe that team sports play a vital role in helping young girls build essential life skills such as leadership. Collaboration, and resilience. Yet the infrastructure gap is stark: there are over 2,000 rugby clubs geared toward men and boys in the UK. Compared to just 400 for women and girls. With the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 bringing the sport to a broader audience. Now is the time to invest in the foundations.

As she prepares for another major international tournament. She’s equally focused on what comes next for the sport. We’re entering a new era where more eyes are on women’s rugby than ever, she said. Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Influence: Visibility Creates Real Impact

During the emotional interview, Hunt revealed how, as a young girl. She found inspiration not on the pitch but in pop culture. When I was little, there were very few female role models in sport. she spoke. But Sporty Spice was someone I could pin my hopes on i wanted to be like her. The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 aims to rewrite that narrative for today’s girls by creating an environment where female athletes are visible, celebrated, and part of mainstream culture. This is about more than a tournament it’s about identity and representation.

Real Conversations That Inspire Action

Melanie C and Mo Hunt’s conversation goes beyond sports; it’s a powerful exchange about growth, pressure, and mental resilience. They speak openly about how sport helped them develop discipline and self-belief. And how those lessons apply in everyday life. Melanie, now a mother to a teenage daughter. Reflected on how much has changed since her childhood. It’s so uplifting to see girls now saying, i want to be a rugby player,’ and truly believing it she said. This dialogue offers a compelling blueprint for using sport as a vehicle for lifelong confidence.

Tackling the Infrastructure Challenge

While inspiration is vital, tangible support is just as important. Melanie and Hunt were quick to point out the lack of accessible facilities for girls who want to take up rugby. Many communities simply don’t have the resources fields. Coaches, kits, or even space on male-dominated teams. The Force of Nature Fund is designed to change that by providing financial support to initiatives that create dedicated programs for girls. Whether it’s building locker rooms, organizing girls-only training sessions, or hiring female coaches. This fund addresses real-world barriers.

Force of Nature Fund: From Visibility to Opportunity

Volvic’s campaign is about turning headlines into opportunities. With the Force of Nature Fund, they hope to fuel the ambitions of local clubs and schools that are passionate about girls’ rugby but lack funding. Grants will help improve training environments, provide equipment. And encourage wider community involvement. Importantly, the fund seeks to normalize the presence of girls in rugby. Giving them a space that feels truly theirs—not borrowed, but built for them from the ground up.

A Campaign Rooted in Empowerment

The message at the heart of this campaign is clear: young girls deserve the opportunity to play, lead, and shine. Melanie C shared how humbled she felt when Hunt told her she had been a source of inspiration growing up. It really hit home how much visibility matters she said. You never know who you’re inspiring just by showing up and doing what you love. For girls watching now, seeing two strong women one from the music stage. One from the rugby field coming together sends a powerful signal that dreams can cross boundaries.

Volvic’s Vision: Creating a Movement, Not Just a Moment

Rachel Hann, Category Director for Beverages at Danone (Volvic’s parent company). Emphasized that this campaign isn’t about one-off gestures it’s about sustained change. This summer is a pivotal moment for women’s rugby she said. But momentum needs infrastructure. Our Force of Nature Fund is about giving local communities the tools to build, grow, and keep girls in the game. Whether through access to proper training grounds or simply having role models to look up to, the campaign aims to shift the narrative for good.

Turning Inspiration into Action

With 60% of surveyed women believing the upcoming tournament will inspire more girls to take up rugby. Volvic’s initiative is well-timed to convert passion into participation. Applications for the Force of Nature Fund are now open. Offering a lifeline to clubs and organizations across the UK that are ready to expand opportunities for girls in sport. It’s a rare convergence of media power, sporting excellence, and community vision. One that could leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
