Anscombe kicks Wales into Rugby World Cup quarterfinals as Australia crushed

Wales became the first Rugby World Cup team to reach the quarter-finals on Sunday, effectively closing the door on Australia’s hopes. The much more experienced Welsh won by a record 40-6, expertly executing a disciplined, low-risk game plan and dealing with Australian mistakes.

“We were alert, we controlled the game, but we didn’t really give them anything, Wales coach Warren Gatland said. This team is getting better and better and with some confidence and momentum we are in a pretty good position right now.”

The Wallabies have never missed out on a quarter-final but, having lost back-to-back pool games for the first time in 36 years, their fate lies in the hands of their tiny Pacific neighbor Fiji, who upended them last week.

Australia must win their final Group C game against Portugal next weekend, but it won’t matter if Fiji account for their remaining games against Georgia and Portugal. If so, the Fijians will follow Wales in the quarter-finals and the lockout will confirm Australia’s worst fears.

“I’m embarrassed for the Australian people, said captain Dave Porecchi. We were hoping to put on a show. It just wasn’t good enough. It hurts”.

A penalty for the error-prone Wallabies gave replacement halfback Gareth Anscombe a chance to practice his throwing. He converted six of seven penalties (one miss hit the post) and converted a try he set up for center Nick Thompkins.

Wales Achieves Historic Victory Over Australia at Rugby World Cup

With high stakes on the line, Wales rose to the occasion at OL Stadium, recording their biggest win over Australia in their 115-year history and handing the Wallabies their heaviest World Cup defeat.

Anscombe came on in the 12th minute after stud Dan Biggar apparently injured his pectoral muscle in a tackle and Wales made no miss. The performance was Anscombe’s personal triumph. He was Wales’ first choice halfback in 2019, but a knee injury forced him to miss this year’s Rugby World Cup and two seasons. A shoulder injury against Australia last November kept him out of action for five months.

He repaid coach Warren Gatland’s faith by literally pushing the Wallabies. His 23 points, including a goal, equaled Biggar against England in 2015 for the most points by a Welshman in a World Cup match.

“Dan Biggar means so much to this team, he is a true spiritual leader,” Anscombe said. I knew I just needed to go out and do my part and that was all I was focused on. Our guys in attack were outstanding, they dominated set pieces and I was just able to keep pushing forward.”

Wales scored three tries without conceding and left Australia scoreless after 14 minutes. Captain Jack Morgan, plugging both bleeding nostrils with cotton swabs, scored the first try and scored the last in another brilliant performance.

Just inside the third minute, Wales called for a short lineout and Morgan crossed from behind. After a quick tapkins, Thompkins’ inside pass met Morgan in a huge gap and scrum-half Gareth Davies supported him to complete his eighth try in three Rugby World Cups.

Wales Stymies Australia’s Attack and Dominates Set Pieces

Biggar converted the play and was replaced by Anscombe as Australia dominated. The Wallabies patiently built up the pressure in stages but were unable to finish it off. Timeouts Tate McDermott and Ben Donaldson made breaks but were unable to make the final passes.

Donaldson took two penalties to close the score at 7–6 and was awarded another penalty for the advantage. But Australia opted for touch and an attacking lineout, but no one was raised to catch and Wales took advantage of the gift and cleared the ball.

Australia never recovered and conceded soft penalties to Anscombe to mark the scoreboard. Wales led 16–6 at half-time and 103 tackles kept Australia at bay. Wales had just 38 tackles to make in the second half. They won 27 of 28 set pieces and the Wallabies’ confidence waned.

A scrum penalty three minutes into the new half handed the tee back to Anscombe and Wales didn’t look back. Morgan scored his third try in the 78th after a lineout maul and then held Suliasi Vunivalu over the line, preventing Australia from even getting a consolation score. Wales fly-half Dan Biggar ruled out of game against Georgia

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has revealed that veteran midfielder Dan Biggar will miss the upcoming Rugby World Cup game against Georgia following his latest injury setback. The 33-year-old suffered the injury in the eighth minute of the game against Australia in Lyon last weekend and seen playing in pain until the 12th minute when he left the field clutching his shoulder.

He is replace by Gareth Anscombe, who scored 23 points and named man of the match, leading Wales to a 40-6 victory and reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament – the fourth time they have done so under Gatland.

Gatland said after the game that Biggar would require at least a two-week recovery period, effectively ruling him out of the match against Georgia at the Stade de la Beaujoire on October 7. “Dan pulled his chest, we’re not sure about that, Gatland said.

Wales cruises to quarter-finals with Gareth Anscombe’s brilliance in Rugby World Cup

Australian rugby has experienced its share of challenging times but nothing quite as dire as this. While Wales deserves congratulations for handing the Wallabies their worst-ever Rugby World Cup 2023 defeat, Eddie Jones finds himself facing his worst nightmare. His expensive rehiring in January following his departure from the England job was not meant to culminate in this debacle.

Gareth Anscombe played a pivotal role in Wales’s success

Instead of breathing new life into the Wallabies Jones’s return is having the opposite effect. This lacklustre performance will undoubtedly be met with harsh criticism in Australian rugby circles. With loud boos echoing around the stadium whenever Jones appeared on the big screen.

If he manages to retain his position as head coach beyond this RWC, it would be a major surprise and neither he nor his outmatched team can argue with the outcome. Unless Fiji secures a bonus-point win over Georgia in Bordeaux on Saturday, Australia’s Rugby World Cup journey. It will end prematurely even before their final match against Portugal next Sunday.

Meanwhile, Wales had to ensure their victory which they did convincingly through tries from Gareth Davies, Nick Tompkins and Jac Morgan along with Gareth Anscombe’s accurate kicking. Anscombe had come on early to replace the injured Dan Biggar amassed 23 points on his own. Wales now looks forward to a potential quarter-final clash with Argentina.

Warren Gatland commended for his extraordinary improvement

Morgan’s late try pushed over by the Welsh pack, epitomized their dominance in this one-sided contest. Warren Gatland, his coaching staff and the players of the Welsh rugby team are commended for their remarkable turnaround. It is stated that they deserve immense credit for rescuing Wales from a difficult situation they found themselves in during the previous winter.

This implies that the team had been struggling or underperforming at that time and Gatland through his leadership was able to lead them out of that challenging period. Eddie Jones the coach of the Australian rugby team and the challenges he has faced. It suggests that Jones has not enjoyed the same level of success as Gatland.

Gareth Anscombe the Welsh player continued to extend his team’s lead by successfully converting another penalty

The statement implies that Jones’s coaching tenure with Australia has been marked by difficulties and less-than-ideal outcomes. It also highlights the expectations that Rugby Australia had when rehiring. Jones particularly his expertise in major tournaments and motivational skills. The specific match or event that underscores the differences between Gatland and Jones. It mentions a lopsided scoreline that suggests a one-sided and heavily skewed result favouring Wales. The unexpected nature of this outcome is emphasized indicating that nobody foresaw such a comprehensive defeat.

This serves as evidence that Jones’s coaching may not be meeting the expectations set for him. While not all of Australia’s problems can be attributed to Jones, his decisions such as dropping seasoned campaigners. Like Michael Hooper and Quade Cooper in favour of a more youthful squad has backfired.

Wales’s performance against Australia in Rugby World Cup

The treatment of young playmaker Carter Gordon was initially named as the first-choice fly-half only to be discarded. Epitomizes the uncertainty that has gripped the Australian dressing room. Wallaby fans and Jones’s employers have every right to ask some tough probing questions.

Wales didn’t have to perform exceptionally high to secure victory in their match. Instead, their opponent the other team presumably Australia in this context. Appeared to have given up or lost hope of winning from an early point in the game.

It suggests that the Australian team’s performance was lacklustre or uninspired and they didn’t put up much of a fight. As a result, Wales didn’t have to showcase their best skills or play like world-beaters a term often used to describe teams. They are performing at an extremely high level as if they could beat any team in the world.

Instead, Wales won relatively easily because their opponent didn’t offer much resistance. The game didn’t come close to matching the excitement of the Ireland vs South Africa match on Saturday night. Wales executed their game plan perfectly from the beginning, displaying a composed demeanour.

Their initial lineout went off without a hitch with a well-executed first-phase move straight from the training ground. Releasing Morgan through the middle and setting up the quick scrum-half Davies for yet another high-profile Rugby World Cup try. The Wallabies faced the vilest probable start

Their previous encounters with Wales had often been closely contested and they certainly didn’t want to start this match playing catch-up. Unfortunately, fate had other plans as influential player Biggar was forced to leave the game after just 12 minutes due to a strained pectoral muscle.

with Australia has been marked by difficulties and less-than-ideal outcomes

The sections of the crowd wearing red fell momentarily silent considering the potential implications of this early setback. Two successful penalties from Ben Donaldson provided the Wallabies with some encouragement. So, it came as a relief to everyone supporting Wales when Anscombe despite missing an easy first kick managed to slot a more challenging one from an angle.

This put Wales ahead 10-6 early in the second quarter. While Australia briefly found success in the scrums the game’s pace slowed down and Wales continued to apply pressure on the scoreboard. Anscombe added a third penalty just before the half-hour mark.

Then when Rob Valetini pounced on a ball that referee Wayne Barnes ruled hadn’t fully emerged from a ruck the gap widened even further. Although Louis Rees-Zammit came close to extending the lead to 16-6 by nearly scoring a try over the Australian line. Wales was firmly in control as they headed into halftime.

During the third quarter of the game, any lingering doubts about the outcome disappeared as the Wallabies began to lose confidence rapidly. Gareth Anscombe the Welsh player continued to extend his team’s lead by successfully converting another penalty.

Gareth Anscombe played a pivotal role in Wales’s success

Additionally, he played a pivotal role in creating a try for Nick Tompkins in the 49th minute with a clever chip over the top of the Australian defence. Just three minutes later, Anscombe added his fifth penalty further tightening the grip on the match. To read more about Wales set to tip Australia out early in Rugby World Cup quick hits.

The situation was deteriorating rapidly for the Wallabies due to their increasing lack of discipline. On the field which provided Anscombe with more opportunities to score points. It’s mentioned that Eddie Jones the coach of the Australian team has reportedly been in talks with Japanese officials. Suggesting that he might be considering leaving his coaching role with Australia.

Jones’s tenure as coach could be in jeopardy following such a disappointing performance. The reference to England’s decision to part ways with Jones before Christmas the previous year suggests. England’s decision to let him go is looking wiser in hindsight considering Australia’s struggles under his leadership.

Georgia has extended their unbeaten streak against Portugal to 19 games although there have been four draws during this period. The winger Akaki Tabutsadze and Gela Zamtaradze were responsible for Georgia’s two scores while Portugal’s Raffaele Storti impressively scored two tries.

Georgia performed a slippery passing move with Davit Niniashvili

Portugal will be disappointed with their inability to manage the final minutes and a crucial mistake by Lucas that handed Georgia a scoring opportunity. Portugal got off to a chaotic start as they allowed Georgia to score within the first two minutes.

Tedo Abzhandadze Georgia’s fly-half added a conversion and two penalties to increase Georgia’s lead. However, Portugal demonstrated their potential shortly after the half-hour mark with an exciting backthree showcasing their running abilities. Rugby World Cup 2023 – Scotland ready to send reminder of RWC presence

Blair Kinghorn heard talk from home about how Scotland are the forgotten team at this Rugby World Cup and how the two-week break between the game against South Africa and the second game against Tonga on Sunday has sapped their momentum.

One fan, Kevin S Brown, contacted the BBC Scotland rugby podcast: Forgot we’re still in the RWC. Another, Martin Welsh, wrote: Oh wait, are we at the Rugby World Cup? Another shot, Jonny Adamson, says: It looks like our tournament is almost over.

Scotland Rugby World cup team’s Focus in France

Speaking on the latest podcast, Kinghorn is here to say Scotland is just getting started here in France. Our focus has never been higher and the guys are looking forward to it, he says. It’s a shame we had such a big downtime, but I think it only made us better. We’re going to get out of the blocks and shoot.

Kinghorn was in good form Thursday. Read the history of his international career and you’ll see a guy who scored Test tries at full-back, right-back, left-back and half-back. He scored one Six Nations hat-trick with 11 goals on his back and another Six Nations hat-trick with 10 goals. If he plays the next three games in France, Kinghorn will win his 50th cap in the Rugby World Cup Group B climax against Ireland in Paris next month.

He was once a newcomer to the Edinburgh team, a teenage wonder with size, speed and skill set that shone like a beacon. He was still a relative child when he played for Edinburgh for the 100th time, becoming the club’s youngest ever centurion.

In fact, it’s still tempting to see him young now when he’s actually 26. Quite young, but there are 11 younger players in Gregor Townsend’s squad in France. How did this happen? I’m still one of the youngest, he laughs. I don’t age, but I’m mature, don’t I?

Motivation to Bounce Back

Like everyone else in the Scottish team, Kinghorn was stifled by the Boks in the first match in Marseille. Everyone wants to go back there and right some wrongs, he suggests. We didn’t play our best against South Africa, but this is a great opportunity to bounce back and show everyone what we can do.

“It’s very strange that Ireland played three games and we only played one. It’s weird to have this two week break. This was both good and bad. it was good, but it was good in the sense that we could recover and connect with each other.”

Part of this bonding process was what looked like a monster team barbecue with the South African contingent at the helm of the team, Doohan van der Merwe – the only one who was topless – and V.P. Nelom, sweating.

Analysis of the Springbok game itself will be hot and heavy. For 70 minutes we didn’t allow them to score a try and then there was a 10-minute period where they scored two quick tries and then all of a sudden the feeling of frustration that you feel because things aren’t going as well as they should have. creeps in a little more, Kinghorn says.

“We’re down 6-3 and we haven’t played our best rugby and we’re like, ‘We can hone this and try from somewhere’ and then there’s this 10-minute period. The game has huge advantages. Defensively and physically we’ve been outstanding, so we’re hoping for that.”

Tough Opponents for Rugby World Cup

The sheer size of their Sunday opponents is a major factor. Like the running game that wasn’t released last weekend but is still around. They’ve definitely got some fantastic ball-carriers, some very elusive runners and if they get their tails up they’ll be hard to stop, he admits. It’s all about staying focused for 80 minutes.

This is a huge motivation for us. We are playing for our country at the Rugby World Cup. This is a huge privilege. They have their goals that they want to achieve, and we have our goals that we want to achieve, and we will go out and show the game that is necessary for a big win.

After years in the back row, from opening forward to return back, to occasional starting fullback in the famed Blair Switch draft and moving up to No 10, Kinghorn enjoyed a nomadic Test career. RWC fans can buy Rugby World Cup Tickets from our website.

Stuart Hogg’s retirement brought him back the number 15 shirt and it is now his. The truth is that even if Hogg had not left the scene, Kinghorn would still almost certainly have started these games in France. His Six Nations form demanded it. I’m just glad I was able to get into a position that I think is the best for me, he says. I’m very happy to be back there. I feel comfortable there.

Contributions as a Defender

“I have the ability to cover the opposition if necessary, but as a defender I can offer my strengths to the team. It’s something I don’t want to give up and something I don’t take lightly. The day is about trying to get better and keep that jersey.”

In a parallel universe, of course, everything could be different. Kinghorn was a skilled footballer and Heart of Midlothian fan in his day. He makes fun of himself when he talks about his ability with the round ball, but it was said that he would have had a chance if he had taken it.

I don’t think I was really that good at football, he says. I was just a big piece of defender who was pretty quick and could head it. It was a good decision at the moment [to play rugby], but we’ll never know for sure.  That didn’t stop him from singing a Hearts song in an ice bath the other day. Memorable. Its me and Gilco [Grant Gilchrist], but he’s a Rangers fan. Chomi (Pierre Schumann) may also be a Hearts fan. I’ll have to clear that up.

They’re a long way from Tynecastle and Edinburgh here in Sophia Antipolis on the Côte d’Azur and will want to hang out outside the city for a while. The critical first step is to get Tonga behind with a big lead that will fuel their campaign and boost their confidence.

Calum Rettie hopes work boosts Scotland at Rugby World Cup

Heriot-Watt University student Calum Rettie is undertaking an internship with Scottish Rugby as part of his BA (Hons) Sports and Exercise Science degree. The 18-year-old footballer took part in the national team’s preparations for the global tournament, which started earlier this month.

Calum admitted it had been a surreal experience working alongside the country’s best rugby players and praised the unique learning opportunities the university offers. The former Knox Academy student said: It was a dream come true as I want to work in this field when I leave university.

As a performance analyst, I film all of the team’s training sessions and then use our software to break them down into individual segments, making it much easier for coaches to identify any problems or areas for improvement.

“My studies really helped with this and I found that working in the ‘real world’ opened my eyes to my course and gave me a better understanding of how a team works. I also have support from my mentors if I ever need it, which is reassuring.”

A Keen Edinburgh Rugby World Cup Fan

A keen Edinburgh rugby fan, the Haddington teenager, who has two younger brothers, Archie and Ethan, has spent the last year working as a performance analyst, using data to interpret each player’s contribution in matches and training.

Using in-depth analytical techniques developed through his research, he provides factual data to coaching staffs. The Sports and Exercise Science program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the physiological and psychological factors that influence athletic performance.

Calum, who played in midfield for both Haddington and Knox Academy before suffering a serious shoulder injury, told the Courier. Working with the Scotland team is great. It sounds obvious, but they are ordinary people, but they got along great with me. Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I see them on the field.

The Scotland men’s rugby team began their Rugby World Cup adventure on September 10 with a defeat to defending champions South Africa.

Wales is seen as having a good chance to secure a victory with a margin

To put it simply, Australia must emerge victorious against Wales or their tournament journey will effectively come to a premature end. This high-stakes showdown has thrust them into a do-or-die scenario where failure to secure a win would mark an unprecedented setback in their RWC 2023 history.

Australia has maintained a strong track record in Rugby World Cup competitions consistently advancing from the pool stage to the knockout rounds. This streak of success has become something of an expectation for Australian rugby fans. And it has come to symbolize the nation’s rugby prowess on the global stage.

The current predicament is a stark departure from this tradition. Never before in their RWC history have the Wallabies faced the prospect of an early elimination in the pool stage. It’s a situation that underscores the gravity of the challenge they now confront. The clash against Wales is not just a pivotal match, it is a defining moment for Australian rugby.

Eddie Jones has encountered important challenges and obstructions

One that will determine whether they can salvage their RWC aspirations or face the unprecedented disappointment of an early exit. As the rugby world watches with bated breath the Wallabies find themselves in uncharted territory. Fighting not only for victory but also for the preservation of their proud Rugby World Cup legacy.

Eddie Jones’ return to Australia this time as the coach of the national rugby team has encountered significant challenges and setbacks. These issues were foreshadowed by Australia’s underwhelming performance in their warm-up matches leading up to the RWC. Failing to secure a victory in any of these preparatory games raised concerns about the team’s form and readiness for the tournament. Australia this time as the coach of the national rugby team has encountered significant challenges

However, their subsequent 22-15 defeat to Fiji in a recent match has exposed these problems. And placed the Wallabies in a precarious position regarding their chances of advancing to the knockout stage. This defeat has made their path to the next stage significantly more challenging.

On the other hand, Wales is in a relatively more favourable position. They have shown promise in their RWC campaign securing bonus-point wins against Fiji and Portugal. Although their performance against Portugal may have been less than stellar, their ability to collect bonus points has put them on track to qualify from their group.

Australia has been spoiled by difficulties in the Rugby World Cup

In response to their recent performance, Wales coach Warren Gatland has decided to revert to the team that narrowly defeated Fiji in an exciting contest. In terms of head-to-head history, Wales has enjoyed recent success against Australia winning three of their last four clashes.

This includes a tense 29-25 victory over the Wallabies during the pool stage of the World Cup in Japan four years ago. While Australia did win the most recent encounter last year, these recent victories by Wales indicate. That they can perform well against their Australian rivals.

Eddie Jones’ return to coach Australia has been marred by difficulties and their recent loss to Fiji has made their RWC 2023 journey more challenging. In contrast, Wales is in a better position due to their bonus-point wins and recent successes against Australia. The upcoming clash between these two teams carries significant implications for their respective Rugby World Cup campaigns.

The betting odds suggest that the upcoming match between Wales and Australia is expected to be incredibly close with Wales being slight favorites. The recent history between these teams also indicates that it’s likely to be a tightly contested game. Rugby World Cup fans can buy France Rugby World Cup Tickets from our website.

The last four matches between them were decided by a margin of no more than five points. However, it’s worth noting that Australia while historically a rugby powerhouse is currently fielding. A relatively inexperienced team which raises concerns about their ability to progress in the tournament.

Wales has a good chance of protecting success

Wales has enjoyed recent success against Australia winning three of their last four clashes

The Wales is seen as having a good chance to secure a victory with a margin of up to seven points being a tempting bet for those looking to wager on the game. Shifting the focus to Scotland, they had a challenging start to their RWC campaign with a defeat against South Africa.

However, they still have a chance to qualify for the knockout stages. In their upcoming match against Tonga, Scotland is considered the clear favourite. The team has had a two-week break since their last game allowing them time to regroup and refocus.

Coach Gregor Townsend has made some strategic changes including promoting wing Kyle Steyn. And keeping potent attacking options like Darcy Graham and Huw Jones on the bench. Tonga on the other hand suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Ireland in their previous match. Given Scotland’s attacking prowess and Tonga’s defensive vulnerabilities it’s expected.

Scotland will look to capitalize on this and secure a bonus-point win which is crucial for their World Cup campaign. The 25-point handicap advantage given to Tonga indicates that the bookmakers anticipate a significant win for Scotland. Betting on Scotland to have a strong start and cover an 11-point first-half handicap is seen.

As a favorable wager especially considering their well-rested status after a week off. Overall, these assessments are based on recent team performances and historical matchups. Defending champions South Africa and their upcoming opponents Ireland are both listed with odds of 7/2. This indicates that both teams are considered strong contenders for the tournament. South Africa’s status as the defending champions contributes to their favorable position while Ireland’s competitive history in rugby places them among the top contenders.

Australia’s odds at 25/1 indicate that they face a challenging path to qualify for the knockout stage and are not viewed as strong contenders to win the tournament. This suggests that bookmakers consider their chances of success relatively low. While Wales is not mentioned in the provided information, it is implied that they are considered more competitive in outright betting.

This breaks down the betting odds and provides insights into how various teams are perceived in the Rugby World Cup. France is a favorite South Africa and Ireland are strong contenders New Zealand is notable but not the favourite. England’s status is unclear and Australia faces a tough road to success.

Rugby World Cup 2023: France’s record-breaking night

In the 76th minute of the match between France and Namibia on Thursday, September 21, French striker Thomas Ramos stepped up at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille to convert the goal that his teammate Melvin Jaminet had just scored.

Les Blais was ahead by 87 points and his kicking had no effect on the result. So this conversion, just to the right of the posts, could have been a simple detail.

Yet the Stade Toulousain forward’s effort to hit the ball between the posts was enough to ensure this Rugby World Cup group match goes down in France’s annals. Taking the score to 89 points, France broke the record for the most points scored in an international match.

Record-Breaking Victory for France

The previous record dates back to 2007, when the French beat Namibia 87-10 in a Rugby World Cup match. A few minutes earlier, the biggest gap between the French team and the opponent, also dating back to that match in 2007, had been overcome.

Admittedly, the Namibian opponents on the night were weak, shuffled and even outnumbered after their captain Johan Deysel was sent off early in the second half following a head-to-head clash with his colleague Antoine Dupont.

The nature of the latter’s injury is still unknown: coach Fabien Galthier told the press immediately after the match that he suspected a crack or fracture of the jaw. The captain, scrum-half and undisputed leader of the France team was taken to hospital in the evening for tests.

Eddie’s alarming answer after letting Australia down at Rugby World Cup

Eddie Jones believes he could lose his job as Wallabies coach after the Rugby World Cup and says he has let down Australian rugby with his shock results this year. Jones spoke to the press in Lyon on Friday after naming number 10 Ben Donaldson and Dave Porecchi as captain for Monday’s (AEST) match against Wales.

He was bombarded with questions from the Australian and British press and seemed resigned to his fate if the Wallabies lost and failed to reach the quarter-finals for the first time. Listen, I let a fellow Australian rugby player down, Jones said.

I didn’t do the job I was invited to do. They brought me in to fix everything. That’s why I feel this responsibility. Jones has a 1-6 record since replacing Dave Rennie as coach in January. He first joined the bulk of Rennie’s squad before starting a dramatic youth movement and dismissing experienced players including Michael Hooper and Quade Cooper.

Jones’s Contract for 2027 Rugby World Cup

Jones has a contract for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia but has given cryptic messages about his future in various interviews. There will be a review after the RWC, Jones said. And given our results, maybe Australian Rugby doesn’t want to leave me. This is the reality of the work in which I live. And I understand that.

I know people upset about it and I understand that, but as a fan I would be going too far because the results aren’t good enough. But sometimes… you have to go through some pain before you succeed. Jones said he was blocking outside criticism, which had been harsh and widespread. For more about Rugby World Cup Tickets please visit our website.

I don’t listen to this noise. I don’t even know what Drew Mitchell said. Have no idea what David Campese said. I’d rather aim here and not reach it. Our results weren’t good enough, and I understand that. But we are trying to build a team that fulfills the dreams of Australian rugby.

“We’re not trying to be a mediocre team. If we’re trying to be a mediocre team, there are other things we could do. We want to be a really good team, and being a really good team comes with some pain and failure. good team.”

Jones’s Continuing Motivation

Jones, who led Australia to the Rugby World Cup final and England to the 2019 RWC decider, said his motivation and competitiveness remained as strong as ever. I love winning and I love the challenge of trying to create a team where everyone thinks they’re going to lose in order to put themselves in a position to win. I don’t know if it’s a drug, but it’s my coach’s impulse. You get more people when they smell blood.

“We have 10 times more people here than we normally would at an Australian press conference because people can smell the blood. That makes it even more exciting.”

Eddie Jones facing the ‘reality’ of his job security post-Rugby World Cup

Eddie Jones has said he is unsure about his coaching future with the Wallabies if they fail to beat Wales in Sunday’s Rugby World Cup Group C match in Lyon. Australia can ill afford to lose this match as it would almost certainly mean they will be knocked out of the group stage of a global tournament for the first time in the tournament’s history.

Jones said a review take place after the Rugby World Cup and while he is contract for the next tournament in 2027 in Australia, he said he may not in charge of the Wallabies at that time.

Jones has struggled since taking the reins from Dave Rennie in January, with the Wallabies winning just one of seven Tests under his leadership. There will be a review at the end of the RWC and given the results we’ve achieved, Rugby Australia may not want to keep me, he told AAP.

“That’s the reality of the job I live in, and I understand that.”

Jones had linked with a return to Japan to take charge of the Brave Blossoms and a journalist had repeatedly questioned his commitment to the Wallabies. But the experienced coach refused to answer, saying he is only focus on the upcoming clash with Wales, who are setting the pace at the top of Group C .

Worries About Training Against Wales

I’m just worry about training against Wales this week, Jones said. He received a lot of criticism when he selected a young Wallabies team for the Rugby World Cup, discarding several experienced players such as long-serving captain Michael Hooper and halfback Quade Cooper.

Although his side are struggling to achieve the results they want, Jones insists he has no regrets and said he is willing to make tough decisions to improve Australian rugby despite fans’ disappointment with their poor results.

I’m not trying to make myself look like a saint, but sometimes you have to make difficult decisions to get further results, Jones said. I have no doubt that we will win on Sunday, given the way the team has prepared and come together.

But if we don’t, sometimes you’ll have to do the work that will allow you to be successful later on. I don’t know of any team where you can come in and break the magic, you have to go through a process, you have to figure out what’s wrong with the team and then you have to try. to solve these problems.

“So I’m sitting here very comfortable, feeling like I’m doing the job I’m supposed to do. I know people are upset about it and I understand that because the results aren’t good enough, but sometimes there’s some pain before you get some success.”

Defends decision to play youngsters

Jones asked why he didn’t wait until after the current Rugby World Cup to make such changes, but said he needed to introduce the young players now. These guys have been there, the results over the last period of time have not been what they should be, and our results are even worse, but sometimes you have to do it to move forward, he added.

We need to create a new group of players with higher standards of training, higher standards of behavior and higher standards of expectation; that’s what we’re trying to do, mate. I don’t think waiting is the right answer; you need to start building a team.

Levan Maisashvili has experienced firsthand the battle against overwhelming odds. He faced a mere 1% chance of survival after contracting Covid-19 in South Africa in 2021. Remarkably, he spent a month in a coma shedding 25 kilograms during his harrowing ordeal. The head coach of Georgia’s rugby union team Maisashvili says we’ve always had a deep-rooted history. And DNA of resilience reflecting on his nation’s proud and defiant spirit.

Maisashvili has fully recovered and just a year after his near-death experience, he orchestrated Georgia’s historic victories over Italy. The country’s first win against a tier-one rugby nation was a term reserved for the sport’s top-level international competitors and Wales.

Traditionally, rugby has been dominated by a select few nations with only four different countries winning the RWC since its inception in 1987. Despite its small population of just 3.7 million, Georgia boasts rugby players like Nika Abuladze a towering 269-pound prop. He can reportedly squat over 570 pounds and bench press nearly 400 pounds.

This nation of formidable men is on a mission to challenge rugby’s established order and its players are unwavering in their commitment to this cause. Their collective focus is now squarely set on proving to the world that after decades of being written off. As an easy target for the giants of the sport, Georgia is a genuine force to be reckoned with.

While Georgia may be a newcomer to the international rugby scene the roots of the game in this country trace back centuries. One of its early sports known as Lelo burti bears some resemblance to rugby. In Lelo Burti two teams engage in a fierce contest to move a 16-kilogram ball filled with materials.

Georgian players were a dominant force within the larger nation’s rugby team

Like sand, sawdust and even wine from one end of a village to the other. It’s a more chaotic version of rugby often involving hundreds of participants. This folk sport arguably played a role in shaping rugby’s popularity in Georgia evident in the country’s rugby terminology. The national team goes by the name “The Lelos” and a rugby try is locally referred to as a “Lelo.”

The Georgian national rugby team was officially established in 1964 but initially operated under the umbrella of the Soviet Union rugby federation. Despite representing a small part of the Soviet Union, Georgian players were a dominant force within the larger nation’s rugby team.

Georgia’s rugby team played challenges due to imperfect possessions

By the 1980s, Georgian clubs were the most successful in the Soviet championship and contributed a significant number of players. If not the majority to the Soviet national team as noted by Tony Collins a historian specializing in rugby history. After gaining independence, Georgia’s rugby team faced challenges due to limited resources. According to    “A Game for Hooligans” the Georgian team had only two rugby balls for practice in 1997. Despite these constraints, rugby became a means for this newly independent nation to assert itself on the global stage.

Georgia made its debut in the Rugby World Cup in 2003 albeit losing all its matches. Despite the outcomes, Collins highlights that the tournament raised rugby’s profile in Georgia like no other sport had. It came to symbolize the Georgian identity as an underdog, resilient and determined nation.

This growing prominence led to increased government funding for grassroots rugby and attracted significant investment from Bidzina Ivanishvili. Georgia’s wealthiest individual and former prime minister poured substantial resources into the country’s rugby program.

Collins highlights that the tournament raised rugby’s profile in Georgia

Beyond the RWC the premier international rugby competitions consist of the Northern Hemisphere’s Six Nations. And the Southern Hemisphere’s Rugby Championship which collectively determines the majority of top-tier nations’ international fixtures.

Georgia has been actively pursuing inclusion in an expanded Six Nations or advocating for some form of promotion and relegation system within the competition for several years. However, these endeavours have encountered significant obstacles. Collins notes that Georgia faces deep-seated structural biases that have been ingrained in rugby union since its inception.

Georgian rugby lineup many specialists remain disbelieving

He adds that The Lelos’ entry into the Six Nations appears unlikely in the foreseeable future partly due to commercial considerations. And the substantial financial risk that relegation could impose on the existing member nations. To read more about Ireland making one change for the South Africa match in the Rugby World Cup.

Despite the recent progress made by the Georgian rugby team, many pundits remain sceptical. About The Lelos’ prospects of advancing beyond the group stages let alone clinching the tournament victory. Georgia finds itself in a challenging pool featuring formidable opponents such as Fiji, Wales and two-time champion Australia.

The latter of which suffered a surprising defeat against Fiji reshaping the group’s dynamics. A matchup against Portugal positioned three spots lower than Georgia in the world rankings presents a favourable opportunity for victory in Toulouse. However, Wales and Fiji pose more formidable challenges later in the tournament.

Leaving the group stage behind, if fortune smiles upon them and their adversaries have an off day. Georgia could find themselves just a few games away from a spot in the final as noted by Collins. Maisashvili when asked about his objectives for the tournament expresses the desire to secure a minimum of two wins to earn direct qualification for the RWC 2027.

Georgia can indeed accomplish the amazing achievements

Beyond this goal, he harbours a loftier ambition to dispel the notion that tier-two nations like Georgia are mere also-rans. he asserts that we aim to approach every opponent as a legitimate contender to play to win and demonstrate our ability to compete against tier-one nations. Rugby World Cup are renowned for their capacity to deliver surprises and defy expectations.

If Georgia can accomplish precisely that Maisashvili aspiration may take a significant step toward becoming a reality. Rugby World Cups are well-known for their ability to produce unexpected outcomes and exceed pre-tournament expectations. It acknowledges the potential for Georgia as an underdog or less-heralded team to achieve surprising victories or defy expectations in the tournament.

If Georgia can indeed accomplish these surprising feats, it suggests the aspirations of Georgia’s head coach to establish Georgia. As a legitimate rugby competitor and no longer be dismissed as an also-ran would be much closer to becoming a reality. Essentially, the unexpected success of Georgia in the Rugby World Cup could help change perceptions about their rugby program.

Rugby World Cup – Gatland to recall big names for Wales’ crunch RWC clash with Australia

Warren Gatland is expected to make massive changes to the crunch clash with Australia this Sunday. Warren Gatland is set to recall his star players for Wales’ crucial Rugby World Cup match against Australia, with Ryan Elias expected to get the nod over co-captain Dewey Lake.

Having made 13 changes for the win over Portugal, which was reduced to 12 when Jacques Morgan came on at the last minute for Tommy Reffell, Gatland looks set to return to the majority of the team that got Wales’ Rugby World Cup campaign off to a great start against Fiji, with Morgan taking on the captaincy role.

One controversial decision could be the selection of Scarlets hooker Elias over Lake. The Ospreys hooker is extremely effective on the field, but Wales’ lineout fell apart in the second half against Portugal.

Key Lineup Changes for Wales Against Fiji

Gatland is expected to favor Elias’ accuracy at the lineout against Fiji, as well as his prowess in the scrum. The New Zealander is also expected to recall the likes of Dan Biggar, Liam Williams, Louis Rees-Zammit, Josh Adams, Gareth Davies, Nick Thompkins and George North.

But Wales are also looking to form Leicester Tigers opener Tommy Reffell and former England tighthead Henry Thomas, who are both suffering from calf injuries. Wales are yet to lose in France but Fiji’s shock win over the Wallabies has left Group C wide open.

Eddie Jones is also reportedly expected to shake up his Australia squad, with Ben Donaldson expected to move from full-back to outside half-back in place of Carter Gordon, while power forwards Taniela Tupou and Skelton remain sidelined due to for injuries.

If Wales beat Australia in Lyon on Sunday, it would see the former world champions crash out of a pool tournament for the first time in their history. But if Wales lose, they too could face that when it comes to reaching the last eight of this competition.

Wales prop Gareth Thomas eyeing Rugby World Cup quarter-final berth against Australia

Gareth Thomas says it would be amazing if Wales beat Australia and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup with one game closer to the distance. Wales take on the Wallabies in Lyon on Sunday knowing victory will confirm one of the two qualifying spots from Group C.

England or Argentina are likely to finish in the last eight in Marseille next month, with Wales maintaining a 100 per cent play-off record under head coach Warren Gatland for four consecutive RWC campaigns.

Wales then have a break next week before completing their group match against Georgia in Nantes. When we came here we always wanted to win every game in the group and nothing has changed, Wales international Thomas said.

“We have the same mindset. We want to go out there, perform and win. It would be an amazing feeling, wouldn’t it, to win a third time? We want nothing more than this. We’re looking forward to this weekend and then we’ll have a couple of days to recover from that.”

While Wales take the box seat, Australia must win to have any chance of progressing from a group that also includes Fiji, Georgia and Portugal. A 22-15 defeat to Fiji in Saint-Etienne last weekend raised the prospect of Australia failing to reach the quarter-finals, its lowest achievement in all nine previous Rugby World Cup campaigns.

Australia’s record in the tournament against Wales is nonetheless good, having beaten them five times in seven attempts, but they will undoubtedly be weakened in the last meeting by the absence of injured forwards Taniela Tupou and Will Skelton.

Rugby World Cup  – Wales Remains Focused on Winning All Pool Games

Thomas added: They will always be dangerous when you play against them. We wanted to come here with the intention of winning all the pool games and nothing has changed for us. So whether they win or lose, it doesn’t change anything for us. For more about Wales Rugby World Cup Tickets please visit our website.

We actually take a lot of confidence from the game against Fiji and Portugal and what we’ve done all summer and feel we can only get better. We know it will be a big physical competition and we are looking forward to going out there.

“It really doesn’t matter to me whether they (Tupou and Skelton) are in the team or not. Behind us are our heavyweights Will (Rowlands), Birdie (Adam Beard) and Dough (Dafydd Jenkins). They are all heavy boys and so is Christ (Tsiunza). We ourselves have enough strength.”

Thomas is one of 16 Wales players to feature in the inaugural RWC campaign and he is enjoying the experience on and off the field. Wales assistant coach Alex King compared the team to a band of brothers, with Thomas saying: There’s something special about every Rugby World Cup game, so we watch them and just enjoy them because there’s a big buzz about everything.

We have fine committees. The (final) sheet came out with all the penalties and Nick Thompkins got a decent score. He was wearing the wrong shirt and was a little late to observation after the Fiji game because his alarm didn’t go off. It’s all a lot of fun.

“I’m an environmentalist, so I make sure everything is clean, take the empty bottles and put them in the bin. That’s my job – the guy who tells everyone to put their stuff away.”

Eddie Jones set to rip up Australia team with shock calls for Wales Rugby World Cup clash

The Wallabies coach is set to make some big changes ahead of their must-win Rugby World Cup clash with Wales. Eddie Jones is set to throw a curveball ahead of Australia’s must-win RWC clash with Wales, replacing halfback Carter Gordon and moving fullback Ben Donaldson to the number 10 shirt.

Gordon is heavily targeted by Fiji during the Wallabies’ historic 22-15 defeat in Saint-Etienne when the seven-cap player at fault for a Jozua Tuisaova try after failing to deal with a high ball.

Australia are due to name their team on Friday morning but the Sydney Morning Herald reports Jones will make some big changes as he looks to keep the Wallabies in contention for the play-offs and Donaldson will trusted in the half as Andrew Kellaway prepares to take over 15th place.

Defeat to Wales would not knock Australia out of the group stage entirely for the first time in Rugby World Cup history, but would force them to rely on Fiji losing to either Georgia or Portugal.

Jones initially backed the inexperienced Gordon heading into this Rugby World Cup, leaving veteran out-half Quade Cooper from his 33-man squad for France. However, the performance in Fiji appears to have caused Jones to lose faith in the 22-year-old.

Donaldson will step into the role of a trusted defender in the first two games of this tournament. Despite playing most of his club rugby for the Waratahs at number 10, he only started one game in that position for the Wallabies.

Wallabies Recall Experience Against Wales

Ironically, it is against Wales in Cardiff last year when the Wallabies beaten 34-13 and pulled off a remarkable victory in the final quarter. It should be noted that when Donaldson left the game in the 54th minute, the Wallabies not yet begun to reduce their 21-point deficit.

As for Kellaway, he will make his Rugby World Cup debut, having selected as a defender in both the Bledisloe Cup games and the final warm-up match against France. Jones is understood have train with striker Mark Navaganitawase at fullback earlier this week but decided to.

Gordon can still named on the bench, while scrum-half Tate McDermott is set to start after returning from the concussion he suffer against Georgia.

With prop Taniela Tupou and lock Will Skelton both ruled out by Jones earlier in the week, the Wallabies’ tight-headed scrum will be an interesting choice. Experienced James Slipper rallied there against Fiji, but injured Pone Fa’amausili addressed the media on Wednesday, saying he will fit to play.

“Yes, the body feels very good, he said. Obviously it’s a slow start to the campaign, but I’m ready to get started this week.”

Replacement Search for Injured Max Jorgensen in Rugby World Cup

Away from the team that will face Wales, the Wallabies are yet to call up a replacement for rookie Max Jorgensen, who suffered an ankle injury late in the Rugby World Cup this week. The 19-year-old broke his fibula after landing poorly while receiving a high ball in training.

Waratahs teammate Dylan Pietsch is initially expect to called up as a substitute. However, it is understood that after telling to pack his bags and hit the road. Instead, the call could have received by one of the many Australians currently playing for the Barbarians in the UK.

One of the key elements contributing to Thomas’ sense of wonder is the palpable excitement among fans. As the Welsh team travels to and from matches in their escorted team bus, they are met with enthusiastic supporters waving and cheering them on. This display of support creates a unique sense of camaraderie and pride among the players.

It’s a reminder of the deep passion that rugby fans have for the sport, especially in a country like Wales, where rugby holds a special place in the hearts of many. For Gareth Thomas and his teammates, this Rugby World Cup journey is not just about the matches on the field. It’s also about the incredible connection between the players and their devoted fans.

It’s an experience that highlights the power of sports to unite communities and create unforgettable moments that transcend the boundaries of the game itself. Thomas one of 16 Welsh players new to the global tournament, said it’s a unique experience with a positive atmosphere making it very enjoyable.

Warren Gatland will announce his lineup for next Rugby World Cup match

Warren Gatland the coach of the Welsh rugby team will announce his lineup for the upcoming match against Australia. It is anticipated that he will choose most of the players who were part of the team that won against Fiji in their first match of the tournament. However, there is a specific position in the hooker where there is a decision to be made.

Ryan Elias the current hooker is vying to retain his position in the starting lineup despite the return to fitness of co-captain Dewi Lake. This means that Gatland is faced with a choice between keeping faith in the current hooker. Rugby World Cup fans can buy Wales Rugby World Cup Tickets from our website.

Ryan Elias who performed well in the first game reintroduced Dewi Lake, who is now fit to play. The decision will likely depend on various factors, including the players’ form, fitness and how well they fit into Gatland’s tactical plans for the match against Australia.

Ryan Elias performed well in the first game reintroduced Dewi Lake

It’s a crucial decision for Gatland as he aims to field the strongest team to secure a victory against Australia in the upcoming game. Thomas was a part of the Welsh team in their opening match against Fiji and saw them secure a bonus-point victory. With two wins from two matches including the win against Portugal, he’s in good spirits.

At 30 years old he feels rejuvenated and prepared to face Australia in their upcoming match on Sunday. This is a significant game for Wales because a win would guarantee them a spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Despite Australia’s recent struggles under the coaching of Eddie Jones and injuries to key players like their captain Will Skelton.

Thomas and his squad seem determined to tactic the game

He is dismissing suggestions that Australia might be considered a weaker team due to these factors. Instead, he and his team are likely taking Australia seriously recognizing that they can still pose a formidable challenge despite their recent difficulties and injuries. This mindset of not underestimating the opposition is essential in high-stakes matches like these where anything can happen.

Thomas and his team seem determined to approach the game with the utmost seriousness and focus. In Thomas’ perspective, he acknowledges that Australia, despite their recent form and injury concerns should never be underestimated. Because they have a strong rugby tradition and can always pose a threat on the field. The Welsh team came into the tournament to win all their pool games. And they’re maintaining that mindset regardless of the results of their opponents. Whether Australia has won or lost, it doesn’t change Wales’s determination to give their best in the match.

Thomas also points out that the team is drawing confidence from their performances in previous games especially the victories against Fiji and Portugal. These successes along with their preparation throughout the summer have boosted their self-belief. And they believe they can continue to improve as the tournament progresses.

Additionally, Thomas mentions the role of social committees within the Welsh squad. These committees are responsible for organizing activities and events off the rugby field. Which helps keep the team entertained and engaged during their downtime in France. This social bonding and camaraderie can be crucial in maintaining team spirit and cohesion.

Typically, as a way to maintain discipline and camaraderie within the team. He humorously mentions that Nick Tompkins has accumulated a significant fine indicating that there’s a playful element to these fines. It boosts the players’ morale and creates a sense of togetherness which is essential for their mental well-being and team spirit. Georgia’s players received a three-match ban for a reckless high boot

Georgia had a tough start to the RWC 2023 losing 35-15 to Australia at the Stade de France on September 9. Despite the loss, the Georgian team often considered rugby minnows showed resilience by scoring two tries. In the second half courtesy of prop Beka Gigashvili and openside flanker Luka Ivanishvili.

Looking ahead, Georgia appears confident about their upcoming match. They see a chance for success because they have performed impressively against their long-time rivals in recent encounters. The Georgian national team known as the Lelos has won eight of their last nine matches against the Lobos.

Which includes their victory in the Rugby Europe Championship final earlier this year where they convincingly defeated Portugal. In terms of player availability, there’s a setback as one of Georgia’s players received a three-match ban for a reckless high boot on Wales’s Josh Adams.

Consequently, he will miss the game against Georgia. On a positive note, Rafael Simoes has been cleared to play in the upcoming match against Georgia as a disciplinary hearing found no wrongdoing in his tackle.

It holds significant merit in the context of international rugby. This approach signifies that Wales is prioritizing their own preparation, execution and game plan. Rather than getting lost in the complexities of analyzing their opponent’s strengths and weaknesses.

This approach allows them to control the aspects of the game that are within their grasp such as set pieces, ball retention and defensive organization. It also helps in fostering team cohesion and a strong sense of self-belief as players are encouraged.

To trust in their training and abilities rather than being overly preoccupied with external factors. In a tournament as prestigious and challenging as the Rugby World Cup, where the margin between victory. And defeat can be razor-thin maintaining a laser-like focus on one’s performance can be a key differentiator.

Wales remains laser-focused on their objective which is to win the game

If Australia were to lose to Wales, their chances of finishing in the top two in Pool C would be seriously jeopardized. Making it possible for them to be eliminated in the group stage which would be a historic and shocking development.

Thomas highlights the threat of overthinking

Assistant coach Jonathan Thomas emphasizes the danger of overthinking and getting lost. He refers to the intricacies of different possible scenarios as going down a rabbit hole. This can happen when teams start considering the various outcomes, points and permutations that could determine their advancement.

Thomas implies that focusing too much on these factors can be distracting and counterproductive possibly leading to anxiety and poor performance. Thomas’s perspective on confidence is rooted in the team’s week-long preparation. He highlights the importance of dedicating their efforts to training, strategy development and physical preparation.

By concentrating on their performance and the work they put in during the week. Wales can build the self-assurance needed to face a challenging opponent like Australia. This approach aligns with the idea that a well-prepared team is more likely to perform at its best when it counts. The explanation also provides context about the current standings in Pool C. Wales is in the top spot having secured bonus-point wins over Fiji and Portugal accumulating more points in the process. Australia on the other hand has six points from a bonus-point win over Georgia and a losing bonus point in their match against Fiji.

However, he reiterates that Wales remains laser-focused on their objective which is to win the game. Their strategy centres on appropriate training and self-focus. Regarding the Wales squad’s fitness, Thomas mentions that except for back-row player Tommy Reffell.

Georgia’s captain Merab Sharikadze is undoubtedly a key figure in their campaign and he’s looking forward to the upcoming showdown against Wales. Georgia’s journey in the Rugby World Cup 2023 began with a formidable challenge against Australia. Afterwards, they enjoyed a full week of rest, a valuable recovery and a strategic preparation period.

Rugby World Cup – The best and worst performing goal kickers and their stats

The Rugby World Cup is the sport’s biggest event and teams spend years building up to become a global showpiece, making every point mean that much more.  Several players have started their campaign with a flawless tee shot, but none have hit as many successful shots as Italy’s Tomasso Allan, who holed all eight of his shots in his side’s dominant win over Namibia.

England’s hero against Argentina, George Ford, had a flawless day from the tee, hitting six shots on target to complement his three goals conceded. Brave Blossoms key player Rikiya Matsuda repeated his 6/6 performance from the tee against Chile.

Three other players managed 100% tee times, but with noticeably fewer attempts: Fijian Frank Lomani made it 2/2, while Scot Finn Russell and Georgian Tedo Abzhandadze scored their only shots.

Near perfect

In the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup, this group of players scored 70% or better. Ireland’s Johnny Sexton was nearly perfect, scoring 87.5% for 7/8, all of which were converted as his side ran riot against Romania. It was a dream first start as a fullback for Wallabies star Ben Donaldson, who was nearly flawless off the tee, missing just one of his seven attempts at an impressive 85.7% to add to his pair of tries.

Rounding out the category was Welshman Dan Biggar, who converted 71.4% of his shots on goal, equating to 5/7, which proved instrumental in keeping Fiji within striking distance.

Chasing pack

The rest of the goalies fall into the same category, led by the duo expected to be at the top of the list. France defender Thomas Ramos was unusually cold from the field for his high standards, scoring 6/9 at 67%. So did the typically brilliant Argentine Emiliano Boffelli, who scored the same percentage but at 2/3.

Next in line is Springboks scrum-half Faf de Klerk after taking over kicking duties from Many Libbock. Livewire managed 50%, making 1/2; The same statistics were shared by three more players – Romanian Gabriel Rupanu, Georgian Luka Matkava and Chilean Santiago Videla.

Despite lighting up the attack with a lackluster cross-shot, Libbock struggled off the tee, making 2/5 for 40%. All-black Richie Mo’unga was surprisingly inaccurate against France, converting just one of his three attempts for 33%, while Namibia’s Tiaan Swanepoel and Fiji’s Teti Tela were equal.

Rugby World Cup 2023 – Dan Biggar rested as Wales make 13 changes for next clash

Warren Gatland opted to make 13 changes to his squad to face Fiji; Louis Rees-Zammit and Taulupe Faletau are the only players remaining in the starting line-up; Wales will continue their Rugby  World Cup campaign against Portugal in Group C on Saturday (4.45pm UK time);

Dan Biggar has given Wales head coach Warren Gatland a rest as he makes 13 changes to his squad to face Portugal in the second match of the Rugby World Cup.

Louis Rees-Zammit and Taulupe Faletau are the only players remaining in the starting line-up from Wales’ opening match against Fiji, while Leigh Halfpenny has emerged as one of the more prominent players at fullback for his 101st cap.

Tomos Williams will make his 50th international appearance and Gareth Anscombe will make his first half start of the tournament. Gatland also made four Rugby World Cup debuts, with Dewey Lake captaining the side at hooker, Jonny Williams and Mason Grady at center and Christ Tshiunza at lock.

Lake is joined by Nicky Smith and Dillon Lewis in the front row, Dafydd Jenkins partners Tshiunza in the second row and Rio Dyer is paired on the wing with Rees-Zammit.

Dan Lydiate starts at blindside flanker while Tommy Reffell makes his first start of the year at blindside flanker and Faletau continues at number 8 to finish out the game and get some more game time after recently returning from a calf injury .

Wales Makes Key Changes Ahead of Portugal Clash

Wales’ replacements include Gareth Davies, Sam Costelow and Josh Adams in the back row, Ryan Elias, Corey Domachowski and Thomas Francis in the front row and Adam Beard as cover in the second row. Thane Basham, who is also preparing to make his Rugby World Cup debut, will be the latest striker change. We’ve made a few changes this week given the six-day period, Gatland said.

Now this is an opportunity for the 23rd round. I’ve said it before, but there is a lot of competition within the team and that’s what we want to see. Now this group has a chance to go out on Saturday and put their mark on the tournament.

We’ve done a thorough analysis of last week’s game and know the areas we need to improve. But, we have a clear plan for how we want to play on Saturday and it’s about going out and executing it the way we prepared. For more about Wales Rugby World Cup Tickets please visit our website.

“Portugal are a skilled team and will be charging forward in their first match of the tournament this weekend. We are delighted to be back there and look forward to even greater support from the traveling fans in Nice.”

Wales beat Fiji 32-26 in their opening match last weekend, but Saturday’s meeting should theoretically be the easiest game of their campaign as they take on the lowest-ranked team in Group C.

Secret bonuses if Wallabies win Rugby World Cup revealed

Rugby Australia has agreed to reward the Wallabies with lucrative bonuses if they perform well at the Rugby World Cup, with players receiving an extra $175,000 each if Australia manage to lift the trophy.

Before the Wallabies left for France last month, the RA and the Rugby Union Players’ Association agreed on what bonuses players should receive on top of their regular match pay. In addition to the windfall for breaking the 24-year Rugby World Cup drought, players will also be rewarded for reaching the quarter-finals. This is only the second time this last four player bonus has been offered.

RA and RUPA wanted details of bonus payouts to remain confidential, but this headline could reveal how much players are set to earn if they get deeper into the tournament. Each member of the 33-man playing squad will take home an extra $175,000 if Australia wins the Rugby World Cup final on October 28 in Paris, but according to people with knowledge of the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Given the team’s performances of late – the Wallabies have just won six of their last 23 Tests – winning the Rugby World Cup seems unlikely, but with Eddie Jones at the helm as coach, anything is possible.

That’s a 40 per cent increase on the $125,000 that was on offer in 2019 if the Wallabies won the tournament. That same year, Australia lost to England in the quarter-finals in Japan. In 2015, the Australian Rugby Union (now RA) offered players an all-or-nothing $100,000 reward for winning the final, but the team lost to New Zealand after the Twickenham decider.

Players Incentivized to Reach Rugby World Cup Semi-Finals

Meanwhile, there is another incentive – not seen for 16 years – that the RA and RUPA have agreed upon that may be more achievable given the Wallabies pay bookmakers $15 to win the Rugby World Cup. If the Wallabies reach the semi-finals, the players will receive $25,000 each. The last time the incentive to reach the semi-finals was in 2007, it has never been so lucrative.

However, as part of this agreement it is understood that no additional money will be paid if the Wallabies win the semi-final and progress to the final at the Stade de France. But if the Wallabies repeat the exploits of John Eales’ successful team in 1999, they will demand an additional $150,000 on top of their total award of $175,000.

RA chief executive Phil Waugh refused to go into detail last week when asked how much players could earn if they perform well at the Rugby World Cup. We’ve been working with the players’ association for some time now and it’s very much in line with what we’ve done historically at the RWC, Waugh said.

“The deeper you go, the better the prize money, but what’s really important is the impact it has on rugby at home rather than the financial side. You can achieve greater participation, greater interest and commercial benefits. This is definitely not the result of one or two games you delve into. We have a good relationship with RUPA and the players.”

In 2015, the ARU bet up to $300,000 on the Wallabies to win the Rugby World Cup to cover up to $3.1 million in tournament winning bonuses. However, in 2011, the offer for reaching the final was $25,000, with an additional $85,000 guaranteed for winning the World Championship. Australia finished third.

Historical Bonuses for Wallabies in 2007 Rugby World Cup

Four years ago, in 2007, the Wallabies offered a $10,000 bonus if they reached the semi-finals and a further $42,250 if they reached the last two finals. The team could have won $137,000 if they had made it to the end, but lost to England in the quarter-finals in Marseille, where they will play a potential round of 16 match again this year.

The Wallabies beat Georgia 35-15 in their opening Rugby World Cup match last weekend and will take on Fiji on Sunday (1.45am Monday AEDT). Australia also includes Wales and Portugal and, if things go well, will likely face Argentina or England in the quarter-finals.

Rugby World Cup – The Ben White verdict on where Scotland got it wrong

Ben White is adamant Scotland have learned many lessons from their defeat to South Africa and will, as a result, be the better team for the rest of the Rugby World Cup. It was the first time since November 2020 that Gregor Townsend’s side had failed to score in a match (a 22-15 home defeat to France) and was also their highest scoring performance since their first game at the 2019 World Cup. when they lost 27–3 to Ireland.

Scotland’s Quest for Rugby World Cup Quarter-Finals

Scotland now need to win all three of their remaining Group B matches against Tonga, Romania and Ireland to have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals. White believes the tough test South Africa has given them will stand them in good stead for the rest of the campaign. This is the World Cup and we are not eliminated yet, so we need to regroup, the 25-year-old said.

Playing against a team of this caliber will only improve our progress in this tournament. There will be a lot to learn from this. I know Gregor really wants us to develop as a team and learn from these situations, so we will improve and get better and we will come back better against Tonga.

“Now we have to make sure that we are even more accurate, that we are better in every moment, and we will do that. We will learn and become better from this and we will give ourselves a chance to qualify from the group.”

Scotland went into their first match against South Africa with the genuine belief that they could beat them. And although they failed to properly get their famous attacking game going on Sunday, they came out at half-time buoyed by an encouraging end to a tense first half, which ended 6-3 in the Boks’ favour.

Scotland’s Post-Match Reflection and Recovery

However, South Africa took control in the second half and a dejected Scots have spent the last few days licking their wounds as they try to reset and regroup ahead of their next game against Tonga in Nice on Sunday 24 September.

It was amazing, absolutely devastating because you prepare for 12 weeks and when you get your foot in the door like we did, you want to try and start from there,” said White, who will join Toulon after the World Cup. They are a top team and if you give them a whiff they will take their chance. They were the better team that day. We missed a lot of chances and when we had good field positions we weren’t good enough. We have to improve.

However, some of this arrived in South Africa. It’s a big challenge to play with world champions. They are the best team and for 50 minutes we were in it and weathered a lot of storms in the first half.

“I felt like we could have just come out in the second half and created a little pressure in our possession game and tried to get the ball a little wider into the hands of Darcy (Graham) and Doohan (van der Merwe), we could have caused them some trouble, but we must give them credit, they stopped us. It felt like they were slowing us down and we needed to learn from it.”

Scotland Rugby World Cup team’s Historical Challenge Against South Africa

Scotland’s record against the Springboks shows their last win against South Africa was in November 2010. When Dan Parkes was the hero, scoring all the points in a 21-17 win over Murrayfield. Since then, South Africa, as world champions, have beaten Scotland by an average margin of 20 points in seven Tests.

However, the “ifs” mentioned highlight potential factors that could give Scotland a chance in their upcoming match against South Africa. If Finn Russell. The talented midfielder will have plenty of room to showcase his skills if Scotland’s forwards can match the strength of the Springbok side. If Doohan van der Merwe, a dynamic winger, can get enough opportunities in open space. Then Scotland could really pose a serious challenge to South Africa.

In rugby, the outcome of a match often depends on these key factors and the team’s ability to effectively execute its game plan. Indeed, the “ifs” really sum up the challenges facing Scotland at the Rugby World Cup. Especially in a tough group that includes top seed Ireland.

Rugby World Cup – Prince William Supports Wales at RWC

The Prince of Wales, 41, was in Bordeaux, France, on Sunday to attend the Rugby World Cup group stage match between Wales and Fiji. Prince William’s sporting event at the Stade de Bordeaux came a day after his wife Kate Middleton attended another Rugby World Cup group stage match in France, where she supported England against Argentina. The divergent plans are not surprising, since the Prince and Princess of Wales compete in rugby!

While Prince William supports Wales in rugby, Princess Kate cheers for England. This is because William is a long-standing patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, while Kate is a patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League, which govern the game in England.

Queen Elizabeth tapped her for rugby roles in February 2022, reassigning roles previously held by Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex stepped back from his royal role with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020, and rugby’s involvement became the first that Queen Elizabeth handed over to another family member.

Prince William’s Patronage of the Welsh Rugby Union

Prince William became patron of the Welsh Rugby Union after his grandmother, the Queen, stepped down in 2016, and it was likely for a practical reason beyond William’s well-documented love of the sport: strengthening his ties to Wales.

William and Kate lived in Wales for the first two years of their marriage, and King Charles named his eldest son the Prince of Wales (the traditional title of the male heir to the throne) in his first speech as sovereign since Queen Elizabeth’s death last year.

Raising the stakes for the Rugby World Cup, Prince William and Princess Kate have cheered for their teams when they played in the past. previously. They watched the Wales v England Six Nations rugby match at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff in February, but it was Princess Kate who returned home with bragging rights as England triumphed. A year earlier, the couple brought their eldest son, Prince George, to the game.

Prince William’s Sporting Loyalties: Football and Rugby

Rivalries between British sports teams can be fierce and Prince William is a passionate supporter of England football teams in his capacity as President of the Football Association. When asked last year if he would support England or Wales at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he remained diplomatic.

“I support both. I support England more in football, but Wales in rugby, William said, according to Wales Online reporter Will Hayward. When I was growing up, Wales didn’t make it to the tournaments. Getting to the Rugby World Cup is a big deal and I will support Wales throughout this process.”

Prince William’s trip to Bordeaux comes less than two weeks before King Charles and Queen Camilla visit the same city. Buckingham Palace announced in late August that the 74-year-old king and 76-year-old queen would travel to France in September for a rescheduled state visit. The couple had originally planned to travel in March for the first foreign tour of the king’s reign, which was later postponed due to protests and unrest over changes to pensions for French workers.

Ahead of their upcoming trip, Charles and Camilla will visit Paris and Bordeaux for three days from September 20 to 22 to celebrate the “shared history, culture and values” between Britain and France, according to the report. The visit will be Charles’s 35th official visit to France and Camilla’s ninth.

The palace also confirmed that the king and queen will attend a magnificent state banquet at the Palace of Versailles on the outskirts of Paris and tour an organic vineyard in the southwestern city of Bordeaux. There will also be celebrations for the Rugby World Cup, which William and Kate are proud to support.

Eddie Jones is getting booed at the Rugby World Cup but he’s turned Australia into dark horses

Jones admits he will remain persistently unpopular even as Australia finally showed signs of improvement with Georgia. An Eddie Jones press conference is always worth attending, often more worthy than the games his team plays. This year, of course, that was the case.

The 35-15 Rugby World Cup win over Georgia on Saturday was the Australians’ first win of 2023 and Jones’ first as Australia coach since 2005. Five defeats in a row is the worst result in the 63-year-old’s legendary international career. stole the headlines during his team’s departure from Australia by telling reporters in attendance that they themselves were part of the problem with the country’s rugby team.

Mixed Reception for Eddie Jones

It’s unclear whether that had an impact on the boos and jeers that rang out from the near-capacity Stade de France on Saturday night, but there was no shortage of clarity as to what the majority of fans thought of him. At least it’s consistent, Jones joked afterward, cracking a familiar wry smile.

“You either want to be popular or you want to be unpopular, and I’m constantly unpopular, so that’s okay. I can handle this.”

He’ll have no problem with popularity if this is the start of the Aussies’ journey to the finals in October, where a few quiet voices wonder if they can end up. For more about Wales Rugby World Cup Tickets please visit our website.

That moment was likely a 14-point turnaround that, if things had gone the other way, would have significantly changed the tone of Jones’ postgame press conference.

Be that as it may, the first match of Australia went largely according to plan. Jones, who has often eschewed conventional notions of ‘positions’ in rugby, selected Ben Donaldson to fill the full-back position.

Carter Gordon’s Standout Performance

He had spent the entire Rugby World Cup camp practicing in the second half, but Jones wanted an extra goal-kicking option and it paid off: Donaldson scored 25 points, 20 with his boot, and received the Man of the Match award. I think he’s a very, very good rugby player, Jones said afterwards, enjoying

He’s got a pretty good level of decision-making and he’s got a pretty good game at 10 or 15 in terms of his kicking, so I’m not sure what the Waratahs didn’t see in it, but that’s their business, not mine. Without a club next year, Donaldson has now become irreplaceable for Australia, according to a leading Sydney commentator.

It is somewhat ironic that Donaldson only trained at full-back in the Rugby Championship because Australia had Carter Gordon, their current starting half-back, and Quade Cooper in their squad. Cooper dropped by Jones before the World Championships in one of the biggest shocks.

In addition to his tee shot, Donaldson adds the mastery of his hand kick, an element that has become the hallmark of Jones’s Australia. As England coach, he hired two unknown analysts to help him work on their kicking game, measuring the length of kicks into the box and the hang time with military precision to understand the ideal kick and improve ball retention.

Australia’s Kicking Dominance Against Georgia

Indeed, Australia kicked Georgia’s goal 40 times over a distance of 1,535 meters and retook 25 of them. In sweltering heat, a grueling chase left Georgia gasping for breath before a huge pack of Australians dominated a team whose entire rugby culture has traditionally built around the physicality of their forwards.

And although captain Will Skelton led by example in the second row, it was all down to his kicking. Midfielder Gordon and striker Mark Navaganitawase were excellent kickers, but Donaldson’s cultured and powerful boot stood out.

“I didn’t have the best year at Super but to have his support from the start… he’s a world class coach so whenever he picks you in the team you feel like you’re doing something right, said Donaldson.”

Just having his support meant the world to me and I worked even harder to restore his faith. And I’m just glad we were able to put on a show for him tonight. That’s what Jones does. Naturally, he would have liked to get a few wins in the lead-up to the Rugby World Cup, but the results have created a cohesive team and a siege mentality.

His outburst on leaving Australia was straight out of a Sir Alex Ferguson or Jose Mourinho playbook, straying from what might otherwise be described as the worst team to ever leave these shores for a rugby World Cup. You’re either with Eddie or you’re not: it’s not always clear why, but he supports his “guys.”

Before the tournament, Jones asked what he thought the trend in rugby would be this Rugby World Cup. This is a good question. You must have spent a lot of time on this. I’m impressed, he respond with a classic Jones compliment.

The Importance of Precision in the Rugby World Cup

The ball in play, especially against big countries like France or South Africa, is really short. But periods of the game are so intense. You can’t afford to make a mistake at a time in the game that suits big forwards like us.

“And then you will have one opportunity, with your back turned, to take advantage of it. You have to be so fearless, both in your running lines and in your passing. Your support game has to be so good to take advantage of these opportunities, and we’re starting to develop that.”

Like the man who replaced him, Steve Borthwick, Jones had just nine months and a few precious games to try and make a difference. So this team is a work in progress. The only thing I know about the Rugby World Cup is that you want to get better every week, Jones added. We had an opportunity to win at half-time, but we didn’t give them a chance to get into the game.

“So while the second half wasn’t our best, there were some really good things in the first half. This is part of our progress in the tournament.”

Few people know the Rugby World Cup better than Jones, who as head coach reached two finals and led Japan to their greatest ever result, victory over South Africa. There will be bigger problems than in Georgia, but Australia won’t want to peak too early. It’s a long tournament, and Jones plans to stay there as long as he can. A few shouts won’t put him off.

Jack Morgan, who will captain the team, and Aaron Wainwright will join Faletau in the back row, but Morgan co-captain Dewey Lake will not feature for matchday 23. Lake suffered a knee injury during Wales’ defeat to England at Twickenham last month.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland said: The medical team have done a fantastic job getting Dewey back to full fitness. He hasn’t had as much training as the other hookers since he took the knock to the knee, so we’ve got Ryan Elias and Elliot Dee for this game.

Warren Gatland makes huge calls as team is named

Warren Gatland has named his Wales team to face Fiji today after the squad arrived in Bordeaux. The starting line-up includes five players who made their Rugby World Cup debuts. Five more players are preparing for their first appearance at the Rugby World Cup from the bench. Co-captain Dewey Lake is not included in the squad due to lack of training time following an injury.

Jack Morgan leads the team at open side flanker. He is joined in the back row by Aaron Wainwright at blindside and Taulupe Faletau, who returns at number 8 and won his 101st cap, most recently playing in the Six Nations against tournament hosts France. George North is making his 17th appearance at the Rugby World Cup in his fourth tournament. He partners Nick Thompkins in the Welsh midfield.

Gareth Davies is picked during the scrum half and Dan Biggar is picked in the second half. Both are competing in their third global tournament. Davies has featured in each of Wales’ last 12 RWC games in the 2015 and 2019 competitions, while Biggar is on the cusp of reaching 100 Rugby World Cup points (currently 97 points).

Wales to face Fiji: Liam Williams; Louis Rees-Zammit, George North, Nick Tompkins, Josh Adams; Dan Biggar, Gareth Davis; Gareth Thomas, Ryan Elias, Thomas Francis, Will Rowlands, Adam Bird, Aaron Wainwright, Jack Morgan (c), Taulupe Faletau.

Replacements: Elliot Dee, Corey Domachowski, Dillon Lewis, Dafydd Jenkins, Tommy Reffell, Tomos Williams, Sam Costelow, Rio Dyer.

Eddie Jones makes shock call for Rugby World Cup

Eddie Jones’ penchant for the unexpected and taking high risks will continue into the Rugby World Cup after Ben Donaldson named him at fullback for Australia’s opening match. Donaldson, 24, widely considered lucky to make the Australia Rugby World Cup squad ahead of Quade Cooper after a disappointing Super Rugby season with the Waratahs.

But Jones remained fascinated by his potential, regularly praising his training performances at both full-back and as a five-eighth. Donaldson, who played three Tests, selected over the reliable Andrew Kellaway for the decider against Georgia in Paris on Sunday (AEST).

In his first start at No. 15, he provides Australia with another hitting option following Carter Gordon’s recent struggles off the tee. The Wallabies are winless under Jones in 2023 and another defeat would be devastating to their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

Seventeen of the 23 players selected will be playing in their first Rugby World Cup match and the team’s Test match cap total is 343, Australia’s fewest at a World Cup since the 2003 match against Namibia in Adelaide (283). For more about Wales Rugby World Cup Tickets please visit our website.

“Andrew is the right choice. We just sympathized with this game. Donno gives us the coverage we need,” Jones said. He trained with us for six to eight weeks, mostly in a full-back role rather than 10. His shots on goal were at a high level, which obviously gives us two (options) per game. With Nick White on the bench, that gives us three.” for Game. This is an area we needed to support, hence the choice.”

Wallabies Unleash Strong Line-Up for Rugby World Cup Opener

The Australians’ hopes further boosted as center Samu Kerevi declared fit to start. Prop Taniela Tupou will make her 50th appearance for the Wallabies with an unchanged forward line-up from the one France thrashed in the last warm-up match.

“We have a really big, strong and fast team ready to take on the opposition, and that starts with Georgia, Jones said. I never would have thought I would walk into a press conference as Australia coach and say we have a huge team that can dominate the Rugby World Cup, and we have it. We intend to use this to our advantage.”

Georgia named nine players, including captain Merab Sharikadze, who faced the Wallabies at the 2019 Rugby World Cup and lost 27-8 in Fukuroy. The rest include scrum-half Vasil Lobzhanidze, number 8 Beka Gorgadze and lock Konstantin Mikautadze. Six are from the starting XV for Rugby Club in France, including forwards Po Guram Papidze and Beka Gorgadze.

Luka Ivanishvili is on the open flank after appearing everywhere except the back row during the Rugby World Cup warm-up. He made his eighth cap while regular opener Beka Saginadze remains sidelined with injury. Georgia’s main threat comes from right winger Akaki Tabutsadze, who has scored 10 tries in eight Tests this year, including two braces and a hat-trick with AP.

WALLABIES (15-1): Ben Donaldson, Mark Navaganitawase, Jordan Petaia, Samu Kerevi, Marika Koroibete, Carter Gordon, Tate McDermott, Rob Valetini, Fraser McWright, Tom Hooper, Will Skelton (c), Richie Arnold, Taniela Tupou, Dave Poretsky, Angus Bell

Jones brings in Donaldson for Kellaway in Australia’s Rugby World Cup opener

Coach Eddie Jones, who has previously compared his team to a broken-down Datsun, says the Wallabies are now worthy of Formula One as they count down to their Rugby World Cup opener against Georgia in Paris.

Jones continued his trend of shock selections for the sold-out Stade de France pool match on Saturday (Sunday AEST), naming Ben Donaldson for his first Test start at fullback ahead of Andrew Kellaway. Jones admitted he needed more shooting opportunities after first choice Carter Gordon scored just one in five against France in the RWC warm-up.

“Andrew is the right choice; Just felt this game, Dono gives us the coverage we need, Jones said. His [Donaldson’s] kicking on target was at a high level, which obviously gives us two kickers and with Nick White on the bench it gives us three. This is an area that we needed to support a little bit, so we chose.”

Backline key player Samu Kerevi recovered from a hand injury and returned in the number 12 shirt, along with Jordan Petaia, Mark Navaganitawase and Marika Koroibete as wingers, while Gordon and Tate McDermott paired again in the halves.

Wallabies Ready to Rev Up Their Rugby World Cup Campaign

Jones hopes the NRL recruits Suliasi Vunivalu to get some punch off the bench after impressing for France. The Wallabies’ forward line-up remained unchanged, with stalwart prop Taniela Tupou playing his 50th Test and Will Skelton captaining the team.

After their defeat to Argentina in Sydney in July, Jones compared the Wallabies to his first car, a Datsun 1200, and described how he would fix one part only to have another break shortly after. But he said the team is now operating at full capacity.

We’re ready to go, mate, in Formula One – whatever car you love in Formula One, the fastest one, we’re almost ready to take off, mate, Jones said. Now we are at the starting line, and now everyone starts from the same point.

“This is really good progress. We went through a period where we had to almost restructure the team to get ourselves into a position where we think we can win the Rugby World Cup. This is the first step against Georgia a very important game.”

Australia have not won the William Webb Ellis Trophy since 1999 and will hope to improve on their performance in the 2019 quarter-finals in Japan. Georgia named nine players, including captain Merab Sharikadze, who lost 27-8 to the Wallabies in a clash at the 2019 tournament in Japan.
