Top head coach Ranking of NFL London 2024

A team sport is football. Therefore, unless you have a strong combination of great skill and/or reliable, creative coaching, you most likely won’t be a genuine Super Bowl contender. A coach’s plans won’t always be enough to advance a team; personnel is just as important as the quarterback, who is frequently only as good as his supporting cast. Still, certain NFL London 2024 contenders have established leaders on their coaching staffs, while others continue to seek out such consistency.

Here’s a comprehensive list of coaches with the strongest big-game resumes, if that’s all that interests you. If not, the following is how we would rank all 32 head coaches in the league before the 2024 season begins:

32. Dennis Allen (Saints)

Allen has often shown that he is capable of providing a strong defence. Despite being a conservative coach during crucial moments, he has failed to produce a single postseason berth in his more than four years as an NFL head coach. New Orleans postponed a rebuild to provide an experienced roster, but the head coach remains focused on his close relationship with former coach Sean Payton.

31. Jerod Mayo (Patriots)

At 38 years old, Mayo at least seems more approachable and honest than his longtime predecessor, Bill Belichick. He was also directly involved in the recent fierce defences of New England. Even so, given that he is essentially an extension of the previous government, it’s difficult to predict if he will be sufficient to mark the necessary shift away from its antiquated ideals.

30. Brian Callahan (Titans)

Could it be that Callahan invented the quarterbacks, or the quarterbacks created Callahan? The former offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals’ popularity as a head coach has a lot to do with his relationships with legendary players like Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, and most recently, Joe Burrow. In Tennessee, at the very least, his offensive emphasis should be a welcome shift.

29. Robert Saleh (Jets)

Does the building accept Saleh well? Does he still have the ability to orchestrate defences? Zach Wilson leading numerous playoff-calibre teams, he and general manager Joe Douglas have managed more of a reality show than a dependable football organization in New York. All of us relying on Aaron Rodgers to get back to his former glory is a reasonable assumption.

28. Antonio Pierce (Raiders)

Pierce, the temporary head coach of Las Vegas until 2023, is attempting to break the pattern of highly touted stand-ins who falter after making a quick transition. He is a complete unknown, having only six years of combined coaching experience in the NFL and colleges. But team executives quickly embraced his brash nature, so perhaps the underdog narrative will gain more traction if he can finally figure out quarterbacking.

27. Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals)

His 2023 debut was, as expected, uneventful; a last-minute quarterback switch preceded a 1–8 start, but in the latter stages, his team was remarkably competitive, especially with Kyler Murray just returning from ACL rehabilitation. It’s reasonable to wonder how far his Cardinals can advance in Year 2 with a lineup still being assembled.

However, his often quirky, sometimes hard-nosed leadership style seems to be improving. You may also like: NFL London 2024 Rosters Ranking: Top expected starting lineups

26. Matt Eberflus (Bears)

With Caleb Williams and a wealth of experienced weapons joining this offseason, perhaps no coach will gain more from a personnel turnover in 2024. Chicago has also placed a wager on Eberflus’s recent comeback as a defensive strategist. Following a dismal year and a half marked by staff upheaval during the season and an unpredictable offence, his “D” finally sprang to life in late 2023, raising the possibility of a wild-card push.

25. Mike Macdonald (Seahawks)

Macdonald, the 36-year-old head coach of the NFL, doesn’t appear like the new kid on the block, even though he trained under football luminaries Jim and John Harbaugh. Although his offensive line options are uncertain, he seems like an ideal fit on the opposing side of the ball after managing the Baltimore Ravens’ top-five scoring defence for the last two seasons.

23. Raheem Morris (Falcons)

Morris was only 32 years old when he was hired by the Buccaneers in 2009. Morris also had a 4-7 record in 2020 as the Falcons’ interim coach. With a highly regarded demeanour and astute defence best demonstrated by the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl victory, he has redeemed a position at the top more than ten years later. In Atlanta, paired with former Rams teammate Zac Robinson, he might quickly advance to the postseason on his own.

22. Todd Bowles (Buccaneers)

Similar to his NFC South opponent Dennis Allen, Bowles, who went 2-1 as the Miami Dolphins’ interim in 2011, is known for his tough defence that can conceal more cautious game management that makes him a potential wild-card contender. Nevertheless, he has led a playoff victory and received a Super Bowl ring in the past four years, which has given him a little more power.

21. Brian Daboll (Giants)

After two very different seasons to begin his Big Blue tenure, Daboll was a difficult nut to crack. He was the legitimate Coach of the Year in 2022, reviving Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley on their way to an unexpected playoff run. However, in 2023, he faltered as both a sideline maestro and a situational play-caller. Once more, he must make the most of Jones and a struggling offence in the challenging NFC East.

20. Dan Quinn (Commanders)

Quinn’s Dallas Cowboys defence was a master at hawking the ball, as Washington witnessed personally, and his debut should be aided by the team’s concurrent injection of senior players. Is Quinn considered a step up from Ron Rivera, one wonders? Although he hasn’t guided a winning season as head coach since 2017, his teams are fierce, and from 2018 to 2020, his former Falcons finished just 18-23.

19. Shane Steichen (Colts)

Dynamic rookie Anthony Richardson only played four games in 2023 due to injury, dealing the former offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles a possibly fatal hand. Despite his near playoff appearance, Steichen changed the offence to centre it around backup Gardner Minshew. Resuming the Richardson project and maintaining the highs of his play-calling from the first season is the difficult part now.

18. Sean Payton (Broncos)

Perhaps because Payton has become so divisive, there may not be a more difficult coach to replace. He was once the renowned head coach of a highly effective New Orleans Saints team, but in his final four seasons as head coach, he has only managed one postseason victory. Now, he is starting over in Denver, most likely with rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

17. Mike McCarthy (Cowboys)

McCarthy has a stronger résumé than most; his 167 career victories rank him 18th all-time, and his Super Bowl climax shows he can prevail in the biggest game. The problem is that, despite having an all-star setup in Dallas, his offensive ability has continuously and recently failed to materialize when it counts most: his Cowboys are 1-3 in the playoffs after three consecutive seasons with twelve wins.

16. Doug Pederson (Jaguars)

It seems like Pederson’s teams never have any dull moments: After leading Trevor Lawrence back to health in Jacksonville after experiencing ultimate highs (winning the Super Bowl) and lows (being benched early) in Philadelphia, he oversaw a turnover-plagued regression in 2023. He still has that player-friendly pizzazz, but he needs to demonstrate once more that he can manage the offence creatively.

To create our final list, which goes from best to worst in the league, we asked NFL analysts Mike Clay, Aaron Schatz, and Seth Walder to evaluate every NFL squad. We then combined their rankings. The players’ output, age, and talent were all taken into consideration. According to Clay’s estimates, the 32 teams’ strongest and weakest players, Walder’s X factors to keep an eye on, and Schatz’s nonstarters for the 2024 campaign are all revealed.

1. San Francisco 49ers

Biggest strength: The 49ers re-signed TE George Kittle, RB Christian McCaffrey, WR Brandon Aiyuk, and WR Ricky Pearsall for 2024 with a first-round pick. These arrivals offer possible alternatives for underappreciated players as well as depth in offensive skill positions.

Biggest weakness: The 49ers have a strong offensive line, led by star linebacker Trent Williams. Since Matt Pryor is no longer a member of the roster, there is continuity. Coach Kyle Shanahan needs to make plans since returning starters like Banks, Brendel, Feliciano, Burford, and McKivitz have promise.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

Biggest strength: Despite a decline in scoring, two-time league MVP Patrick Mahomes has won three Super Bowl MVP awards and has established himself as the league’s top player. His hegemonic rule is far from ended.

Biggest weakness: The four-year, $80 million contract Kansas City has with RT Jawaan Taylor, who battled in 2023 and finished in the top 10 in terms of pressures, hits, and rushes allowed, is still a serious worry. Competing left tackles include Kingsley Suamataia, Lucas Niang, and Wanya Morris.

3. Baltimore Ravens

Biggest strength: A first-round selection in 2022, Kyle Hamilton has developed into a safety superstar, recording 80 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 3.0 sacks while being named to the first team of the Pro All-Pro team. Top safety Marcus Williams is ranked sixth in passes defended and tenth in interceptions.

Biggest weakness: John Simpson and Kevin Zeitler, who combined for 93.4% of Baltimore’s guard snaps in 2023, left during the offseason. The organization made relatively little effort to replace the two, with Andrew Vorhees, Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, Josh Jones, a journeyman rookie, and Ben Cleveland, a 2023 backup, the best choices to start in the late rounds of the 2023–24 draft. Arguably, this is the weakest guard scenario in the league.

4. Detroit Lions

Biggest strength: A line of attack. Once again, Detroit boasts an exceptional line. Out of the five starters from 2023, four are back: Frank Ragnow, Graham Glasgow, the dynamic guard, Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell, the standout tackles. Jonah Jackson was the lone departure during the offseason, and Kevin Zeitler was signed by Detroit to replace him. Each of the five expected starters saw over 1,000 plays and finished 2023 with solid to excellent PFF grades.

Biggest weakness: Here’s when I start to get picky because this roster is excellent and well-balanced. Depending on how Brian Branch is used, safety may even prove to be an advantage. With 72% of his snaps coming at cornerback last season, the versatile Branch was Detroit’s main slot corner, a position he is expected to keep in 2024. Ifeatu Melifonwu and Kerby Joseph would then be the team’s top.

5. New York Jets

Biggest strength: New York’s cornerback trio, including Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, and Michael Carter, is among the best in the league. Gardner has made the first team twice, Reed is fourth in tackles, and Carter is a top slot corner.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

Biggest weakness: security. Although the Jets have a strong roster, there are some safety concerns. Chuck Clark has been added at safety in place of Jordan Whitehead, the lone Jets defender to go after playing more than 600 snaps in the previous campaign. Before missing the entirety of 2023 due to an ACL tear, Clark was rather active for Baltimore from 2020 to 2022, racking up 274 tackles.

6. Dallas Cowboys

Biggest strength: In three seasons, Micah Parsons, the best defender in Dallas, has led the pass rush victory percentage. DeMarcus Lawrence, 32, has strong rates of success in pass rush and tackle. In the draft, Marshawn Kneeland was added, and Sam Williams is back as depth.

Biggest weakness: Reversing course. For a really solid Dallas team that elected to deprioritize running back this season, this wasn’t a difficult decision. Ezekiel Elliott, who will be 29 on July 1, replaces Tony Pollard as the starting back. Elliott is a franchise legend, but at this stage of his career, he’s little more than the football version of an innings-eater.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets

This was demonstrated even more in New England the previous season, as he recorded below-average yards after the catch marks and yards per run for the fourth consecutive year. Furthermore, after Elliott, there’s not much to be thrilled about. You may also like: Expectation from Aaron Rodgers & Dak Prescott NFL London 2024

7. Buffalo Bills

Biggest strength: Over the last four seasons, Josh Allen has never placed worse than sixth in QBR. During all four of those campaigns, he also placed in the top 10 in terms of carries, throwing yards, passing touchdowns, dropbacks, attempts, completions, running yards and rushing touchdowns. More will be expected of Allen as WR Stefon Diggs leaves, but the 28-year-old has proven he can handle the pressure.

Biggest weakness: Since I discussed the Bills’ wide receiver depth issues in this part last year, Gabe Davis and Josh Diggs have left the team. Buffalo may have brought in some reinforcements, but the team still has a lot of work to do. First on that list is Keon Coleman, a second-round selection who, given his age, might require some time to mature. Curtis Samuel is a reliable No. 3 receiver, while Khalil Shakir, a third-year graduate, has potential as a wild card or breakout.

8. Cincinnati Bengals

Biggest strength: With Ja’Marr Chase ranking seventh in receiving yards and Tee Higgins ranking third in touchdown catches, Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase and Higgins combination is a strong force in the NFL with reliable depth options.

Biggest weakness: Despite his impressive running ability, Zack Moss is expected to be signed by the Bengals as their starting quarterback. The third-round pick in 2020, Moss, has never managed a heavy load in the passing game or a complete workload for an entire season.

9. Cleveland Browns

Biggest strength: With a high pass rush rate and great depth in Ogbo Okoronkwo and Alex Wright, Cleveland’s offensive line, headed by Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith, is a breakout offence in 2023.

Biggest weakness: The Browns’ running back room, with Nick Chubb listed as a weakness, is expected to remain a strength position if he recovers from a knee injury. If not, other RBs like Ford, Foreman, and Hines will take over.

10. Philadelphia Eagles

Biggest strength: With Jordan Mailata covering the left side and Lane Johnson covering the right, the Eagles own maybe the best tackle tandem in the league. In 2023, Mailata’s pass block victory rate and run block win rate placed him among the best tackles. Despite being 34 years old, Johnson performed at his peak level in 2023 and had the highest run block victory percentage of any starting tackle.

Biggest weakness: Howie Roseman, general manager of the Eagles, puts off-ball linebacker ahead of defensive end. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Devin White, and Oren Burks are among the offseason investments. White had trouble stopping the run, but the team might benefit from Nakobe Dean’s 2022 campaign.

So let’s consider some of the NFL’s most pressing issues before the 2024 season starts as players report this week. It’s time to investigate some of the seseon’s finest mysteries.

1. Is Patrick Mahomes putting everything in Tom Brady Mode on autopilot?

Tom Mahomes has three Super Bowl victories, proving that he can modify his game to fit various lineup configurations. Together with Tyreek Hill, he won Super Bowl LIV. With Travis Kelce and the potent Chiefs defence, he won Super Bowl LVII. Mahomes’s defence has played a major role in his blazing offence.

With more receivers joining the team, the Chiefs’ offence might get better, but they still have concerns at left tackle and two veterans leaving. To remain consistent competitors, Mahomes and Reid will need to adjust to the present personnel.

2. Jerry Jones will have to acknowledge that his team isn’t all in if the Cowboys sign Dak Prescott.

Jerry Jones might not be all in for 2024, but it’s unlikely that he’ll let Dak Prescott go. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback for the Cowboys has contributed to the team’s 36 regular-season victories and playoff conversation. It’s dangerous to lose a Pro Bowl quarterback, and with Trey Lance in the starting lineup, the Cowboys must maintain their competitiveness. The Cowboys are giving Prescott a lot of thought because of his possible high cost and potential irrelevance.

3. What’s the ceiling like for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy?

Due to elbow surgery, Purdy a nominee for the 2023 MVP award has had a successful offseason. Purdy’s 2023 stats should be met or surpassed by the 49ers with the return of starters and the addition of draft picks. Still, it’s unclear if the Niners can reliably defend Purdy with a haphazard offensive line. Purdy’s physical prowess might make it easier for him to weather the NFL season.

4. Jordan Love is dubbed the NFL’s next superstar by a teammate in the Packers. How much better can Love get?

After spending three seasons behind Aaron Rodgers at quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, Josh Jacobs is expected to be the next big thing in the NFL. Love can develop alongside the Packers’ core if he has a game plan and a plethora of receiving options. He led the youngest club to the divisional round last season while throwing for eighteen touchdowns. Love is predicted to soar into the league’s upper echelons with experience and a solid foundation.

5. Can Josh Allen’s skill make up for Buffalo’s losses on the roster from Jordan Poyer to Stefon Diggs?

Careers for quarterbacks are cyclical, and when a quarterback of the calibre of Josh Allen signs a big contract, the general manager of the team can only work magic with the cap for so long, which eventually wears down the supporting cast. Allen needs to get better from tight end Dalton Kincaid, a second-year player, and receivers Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Curtis Samuel. Allen can play, though, and the Bills need to keep improving if they want to win the Super Bowl.

6. This season, do the Jets have Aaron Rodgers’ teammates he needs to succeed?

Without quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Jet’s offence saw a major setback last season, and the high offensive turnover rate might not help. Mike Williams, Tyron Smith, John Simpson, and Morgan Moses are new starters for New York in NFL 2024. Although these players are not familiar with Rodgers or offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, they do have NFL experience.

Since Rodgers’s physical state is probably going to deteriorate, the offensive line needs to guard him more skillfully than it did the previous season. A strong core of receivers, including Williams, Garrett Wilson, Gipson, Lazard, and Corley, will be part of the redesigned offensive line. 7. This preseason, will any notable players, like Brandon Aiyuk, be traded?

Star wide receiver Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers is probably going to be there for at least another season, even if there have been rumours that he might join Jayden Daniels in Washington. With one year remaining on his $14.1 million rookie deal, Aiyuk is wanted by San Francisco brass to stay. Deebo Samuel, though, might be moving if San Francisco can sign a long-term contract with Aiyuk.

8. Has the defence of the Lions finally reached championship level?

This year, Brad Holmes, the general manager of Detroit, has committed to having a full secondary that includes two corners and a deep defence. Now that they are deepest, the Lions’ weakest position group spreads throughout the ball. Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph are members of the adaptable secondary who can fill a variety of roles. This offseason’s additions should help the Lions get closer to the Super Bowl than they were the previous year.

9. Is the Ravens’ offensively God Mode activated by Derrick Henry?

The 30-year-old running back Henry still has a lot of football left in him, even though he has not returned to his previous level of play. Despite facing a subpar offensive line, he finished second in the league in runs last season. Henry is even more effective when paired with two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and the deadly Ravens offence. Their complementary backfield presence and two trustworthy passing targets could be the key to Baltimore’s well-rounded offence and postseason success.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets

10. Is there a blank slate for Russell Wilson or Justin Fields?

Josh Wilson, the quarterback for the Steelers, is paid $1.3 million annually even though the team does not want to give him $48 million. Wilson scored 26 passes with touchdowns in the previous season compared to the Steelers’ 13 and 9 picks. Fields, who is still only 25 years old, has an opportunity to shine. Should Wilson or Fields perform inadequately, Pittsburgh may proceed with a rookie or an experienced player.

11. Which group has the most chance of surprising everyone in 2024 by pulling a Texans?

According to Super Bowl odds, the Bengals and Colts are two of the finest teams in the NFL; the Bengals, with a healthy Joe Burrow, are favoured, while the Colts are tied for the 20th-best chances at 55:1. The Colts might be a dangerous wild card with Shane Steichen’s improved offence. The defence, which ranked fifth in sacks the previous season, may see an instant improvement with first-round edge Laiatu Latu.

12. How much pressure are C.J. Stroud and DeMeco Ryans under in their second season?

The Texans’ first-place schedule in 2024, which includes games against the Dolphins, Chiefs, and Ravens, puts a lot of pressure on them this season. They have signed defensive lineman Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, and star running back Joe Mixon, as well as perennial Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs, to contracts worth $104.5 million. The Texans, who have three straight losing seasons before 2023, will find it difficult to adapt to this new environment.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets

13. Which group will 2024 leave you feeling the most let down?

The Cleveland Browns’ 11-6 record from the previous campaign was evidence of their tenacity and achievement. Although the team lost standout running back Nick Chubb and had to switch quarterbacks, Joe Flacco’s health and Deshaun Watson’s play will be key factors in determining the team’s success this season. If Chubb recovers from a knee injury, the Browns’ running game may suffer and their top defence is unlikely to return.

The team’s schedule, which places them in a challenging division, may cause a return to 8–9, which would upset Cleveland’s supporters. The corresponding analysis is mine, but the rankings represent the collective wisdom of the twelve voters on the panel. The best pass-catcher, running back, and expected starting quarterback for each team are taken into consideration when determining the rankings. The ranks represent the panel’s collective wisdom. However, the matching analysis is composed of my analysis.

The lowest half of the league will be covered today, while the top half will be covered tomorrow. Without additional delay…

Tier 8: The Bottom

New England Patriots

Last year: 27th

This is another rookie quarterback who we chose because we think he will eventually replace Jacoby Brissett in the starting lineup. Although Stevenson does not have the most explosive bunch of teammates surrounding him, he has had a strong season this past season running and catching out of the backfield. The Pats will most likely surpass this number if one of their young receivers Ja’Lynn Polk, Demario Douglas, or Javon Baker takes Bourne’s top pass-catching position.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

Denver Broncos

Last year: 21st

Compared to the first several quarterbacks taken in this year’s selection, Nix was the last of the first-round picks, and less trust was placed in him. Williams just finished a season after tearing his ACL, during which he appeared unimpressive and slow. Although Sutton scored 10 touchdowns in his year, he only caught 59 receptions for 772 yards. This trio’s last-minute check-in is not shocking.

Carolina Panthers

Last year: 28th

After a terrible season in the first year of Bryce Young’s tenure, the Panthers prioritized the quality surrounding him this offseason. Although Brooks may not be fully recovered from an ACL tear in time for the season, you don’t draft a back high up in the second round if you don’t intend to use him extensively. Johnson too problems with inefficiency and drops, but he at least finds openings. Although the talent level is not very high, it is remarkably higher than it was the previous year, as indicated by the ranking.

Tier 7: Holding Pattern

New York Giants

Last year: 18th

Devin Singletary behind Daniel Jones and under center merely yells, “This is temporary.” This offseason, New York made an ineffective attempt to replace Jones and did not modify his deal, as they did the previous year before it ever became effective. It’s clear that Nabers is here to stay hopefully for a very long time but it’s not shocking that New York dropped out of last year’s too optimistic ranking.

Las Vegas Raiders

Last year: 16th

Once more, we’re going with O’Connell over Gardner Minshew because, as long as he demonstrates a minimum level of competency, it wouldn’t make sense for Vegas to pass on the younger player. Adams is incredible, but it doesn’t seem like he’s exceptional enough to propel this squad to a higher level on his own.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

Tier 6: Too Many Questions Marks

Pittsburgh Steelers

Last year: 22nd

Once again, neither Russell Wilson nor the Steelers’ trio served as the inspiration for our panel. Due to financial investment and inertia, Harris is likely to stay the starting back, but Jaylen Warren has outperformed Harris in each of the two seasons that Warren has played. Pickens is incredibly talented, but we haven’t seen him use it all yet, so it’s difficult to determine if he deserves to be ranked this high.

Tennessee Titans

Last year: 25th

The first season of Levis was really up and down. After breaking his leg in the beginning of the previous year, Pollard appeared awful, but he improved towards the end. Although Calvin Ridley was added by the Titans in the offseason, Hopkins remains the superior player. The man is amazing. Unfortunately, until we learn more about Levis, we cannot rationalize ranking the Titans higher.

Washington Commanders

Last year: 29th

Daniels is incredibly gifted. We are aware of this. It has been long overdue for McLaurin to play with a legitimate quarterback, and hopefully, he has at last found one. Despite having had a disappointing season, Ekeler is still incredibly dependable, particularly when it comes to passing. However, considering the uncertainty surrounding this trio’s on-field performance, it’s difficult to argue that the Commies should be ranked higher than this.

New Orleans Saints

Last year: 29th

I have to admit that I was astonished by both this ranking and the one after it, though for different reasons. On my ballot, I ranked New Orleans lower than this. Simply put, Carr lacks many other quarterbacks’ upside. This month, Kamara will turn 29. Over the past three years, he hasn’t exceeded 4.0 yards per rush. Last year, he recorded a career-low 6.2 yards per reception.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets

Los Angeles Chargers

Last year: 5th

On the other hand, based only on Herbert’s strength, I believed the Chargers would rank higher than this. In my rankings, I was inclined to give the quarterback the greatest weight, but my colleagues seemed to think that L.A. should be ranked lower because of Edwards and Palmer. You may also like: Ten 2nd-year players that should improve in NFL 2024

Tier 5: Slightly Below Average

Cleveland Browns

Last year: 14th

Once more, I believe that this is a squad that ought to be far lower. Watson’s performance has declined since 2020. Four years ago was that. Whatever the cause, you just don’t see guys suffer for so long before they succeed. Chubb will turn 29 this season and is recovering from a horrifying knee injury. He has very little chance of ever regaining his (amazing) form. if he steps foot on the pitch. Although Cooper is fantastic, this rating seems strange.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last year: 10th

Like you, I don’t think the Bucs should be this high. Mayfield made a comeback last season, but we witnessed what transpired with Geno Smith when Dave Canales was in charge two years prior, and what followed when Canales moved to Tampa last year. What guarantees that Mayfield won’t experience the same thing?

White has also shown himself to be a reliable pass-catcher but a very ineffective runner. Even if Evans is a contemporary marvel who is capable of scoring touchdowns with close to ten touchdowns and a thousand yards, he shouldn’t be carrying these players to this level.

Indianapolis Colts

Last year: 24th

Last season, Richardson showed off a ton of potential in just four games. However, quarterbacks are usually brought out to their best by Colts coach Shane Steichen, and considering Richardson’s physical attributes, that best is probably quite good. With Minshew in the centre last year, Pittman flourished, and Taylor is among the best pure runners in the league. There are numerous benefits to this.

Chicago Bears

Last year: 20th

The Bears would be ranked even higher if we could include the whole skill-position corps in our rankings. The embarrassment of riches they now know is astounding, considering where they were even two years ago. Along with Swift and Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, and Cole Kmet were also highlighted. Williams is possibly in the greatest position of any first-round selection in recent memory. Chicago’s ranking should rise significantly the next year if he takes off.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Arizona Cardinals

Last year: 32nd

A year ago, Arizona was doomed because we thought Murray would miss most, if not all, of the season. He sat for a while, but when he returned, he appeared rather well. And Arizona’s run game, led by Conner, was excellent all season long. It’s hardly surprising that the Cards jumped much in our rankings when you consider that they have one of the top-receiving prospects in recent memory.

Ten 2nd-year players that should improve in NFL 2024

Not everyone who starts out can be Puka Nacua or C.J. Stroud. Naturally, all NFL teams would feel reassured if their rookies delivered immediate rewards in the same way that the wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams and the quarterback for the Houston Texans did in their respective record-breaking debuts. However, there are only so many young players who can skillfully navigate all the demands that come with making the switch to the professional ranks. Even the most gifted players may find it difficult to adjust to a much higher level of competition and master a new scheme. Although there are many instances of early draft picks who overcame sluggish starts, patience can be scarce in the NFL. Every club is dependent on rookies making significant contributions, and there is pressure to perform.

QB Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers

After a dismal first season, general manager Dan Morgan and coach Dave Canales of the Carolina Panthers have completely redesigned their quarterback group. Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt, two expensive guard additions, have enhanced the supporting group. Carolina’s offense is propelled by a rushing game and play-action passes despite Young’s workload. Making decisions more quickly is necessary to protect Young’s growth and prevent expensive deals.

QB Will Levis, Tennessee Titans

Levis, the rookie quarterback for Tennessee, had some restrictions, which raised concerns about his effectiveness. After DeAndre Hopkins was added, Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd joined the offensive, which was now focused mostly on passes. Brian’s father, Bill Callahan, is a well-respected assistant who might make all the difference. If Tennessee makes it back into the playoffs, Levis will have the opportunity to take charge of the offense.

OT Wanya Morris, Kansas City Chiefs

The addition of Marquise Hollywood Brown and first-round selection Xavier Worthy to the receiving corps this offseason gave the two-time reigning champions some significant speed. But another position may have a significant impact on how much more explosive this group can be. Morris will compete against Kingsley Suamataia. A rookie selected in the second round, for the left tackle position, which is the only offensive starting spot that is still open.

Oklahoma native, selected in third round, has experience over Donovan Smith, but must face Suamataia, a talented athlete. Position fight in training camp will be significant.

WR Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers

After a season marred by costly drops, Johnston, the No. 21 pick. May be the former first-round pick who needs a mulligan the most. The errors were deemed “unacceptable” by the TCU product, which also blamed a lack of concentration for them. With Jim Harbaugh taking over, there should be a fresh start.

The head coach is well aware with Johnston’s explosiveness, having watched the 6-3, 215-pound receiver torch his Wolverines for 163 yards, including a 76-yard score. In a 2022 College Football Playoff quarterfinal. Johnston needs to prove to Justin Herbert that he is a reliable player. Even though he poses a greater vertical threat than Josh Palmer or second-round rookie Ladd McConkey. You may also like: Patriots NFL 2024: Jacoby Brissett Starter at quarterback

DE Tyree Wilson, Las Vegas Raiders

The combination of defensive end Maxx Crosby and defensive tackle Christian Wilkins makes the Silver and Black one of the most deadly front-line tandems in the NFL. But if its most recent selection in the top 10 performed as expected. How much better would this front four be? Wilson, the seventh overall pick in 2023, only recorded 3 ½ sacks and a 4.9% pass rush win percentage. These numbers pale in comparison to the high bar set by Jalen Carter (six sacks) and Will Anderson Jr. (seven sacks). Two other pass rushers in the top 10.

Nevertheless, the 6-6, 275-pound player appears to be headed in the right direction. He was more productive in the second half of the season after Josh McDaniels was replaced as interim coach by Antonio Pierce. Wilson will have a difficult time unseating Malcolm Koonce as Crosby’s starting partner. But his ability to crash inside and use his length should get him opportunities, especially in sub packages.

DT Mazi Smith, Dallas Cowboys

By selecting Smith in the first round of the defensive tackle draft their first choice since 1991’s Russell Maryland the Cowboys appeared to be making a clear statement about their desire to strengthen the unproven interior of their front. However, following his weight loss and playing in only 28.4% of the Cowboys’ defensive snaps in the previous year. Smith was hardly the impact player Dallas had hoped for.

The Michigan product has a chance for a fresh start with the departure of Johnathan Hankins and the philosophy of new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer appearing to be a better fit for a player who was frequently expected to assault upfield as a rookie. Smith, who had shoulder surgery in the summer. Will need to be a key player in stopping the run and managing the line of scrimmage if he is to live up to the hype.

LB Trenton Simpson, Baltimore Ravens

The Clemson native, selected in the third round, was primarily left to observe rather than participate during his rookie season. Never seeing more than eight defensive snaps in a single game until Week 17. But he’s now set to replace Patrick Queen, who left to join the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, in the starting lineup. Simpson, who stands 6-2 and weighs 238 pounds, is a versatile tackler with great range. His progress will be greatly aided by working with All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith. But maintaining a level of control on the field will be crucial.

CB Emmanuel Forbes, Washington Commanders

By selecting Forbes with the 16th overall pick in the previous draft. Washington was hoping that the Football Bowl Subdivision’s all-time leader in interceptions returned for touchdowns would spark big plays and energize a defense that had become stale. As an alternative, in 2023 such big plays far too frequently fell wrong. In October, a week after facing Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J.

Brown and surrendering 147 yards and two touchdowns, Forbes was benched. Dan Quinn’s new coach seeks former Mississippi State cornerback Forbes to improve a defense that allowed 39 touchdowns and 262.2 yards passing per game. Forbes must demonstrate physical strength and playmaking ability.

CB JuJu Brents, Indianapolis Colts

Last season, Indianapolis put up with its incredibly inexperienced secondary being exposed at multiple points. As the team appeared to be destined for growing pains. This season, the same pass won’t be accessible since general manager Chris Ballard has stated that he wants better performance from a group that he has fiercely supported throughout the offseason.

Brents, a second-round selection out of Kansas State whose string of injuries both before and during the season hampered his development. Maybe the crucial player for that potential growth. The 6-3, 198-pound Brents might gain the momentum he lacked as a rookie and develop into the precise type of long. Muscular cornerback that defensive coordinator Gus Bradley loves if he has a healthy offseason.

CB Deonte Banks, New York Giants

The Giants should provide a lot of issues for any opposition quarterback that holds onto the ball for an extended period. Especially with the addition of two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Brian Burns to the mix with Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Adoree’ Jackson was not re-signed, while Xavier McKinney left for the Green Bay Packers. Leaving the defence’s back end in disarray. Even though he only made 15 starts as a rookie, the 6-2, 200-pound Banks initially seemed like the ideal match as an outside. Press-man corner for Wink Martindale’s hyper-aggressive scheme.

The No. 25 overall pick from the previous season will now have to show more discernment to fit in with Shane Bowen. The new defensive coordinator. One benefit: With fewer blitzes and an abundance of two-high safety looks which frequently put the Maryland product on an island banks should have a lot more support in 2023.

Patriots NFL 2024: Jacoby Brissett Starter at quarterback

The decision to overhaul the quarterback position was made by the New England Patriots this summer. This was Brissett’s way of going back to his old haunts. It meant adding a tested alternative to a quarterback room that was in transition for the Patriots. But what can we anticipate from the 31-year-old this coming season? Let’s evaluate. An early look at the Patriots quarterback for the 2024 NFL season.

Hard facts

Name: Jacoby Brissett

Size: 6’4, 235 lbs

Opening day age: 31 (12-11-1991)

Position: Quarterback

Shirt No: 14

Contract status: Under contract till 2024 (2025 UFA)

Expertise

Brissett, a four-star prospect out of high school, began his collegiate career at the University of Florida but switched to North Carolina State due to the lack of possibilities there. He also gained 899 yards on the ground and found the end zone nine times. With his versatility, experience, and production, Brissett was a top pick for the Patriots in the 2016 NFL Draft. On the depth chart, he was ranked third behind Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Brady.

The team selected him with the 91st overall choice in the third round. Still, he made three appearances for the eventual Super Bowl champions, including two starts. After gaining 400 yards on 34 of 55 (61.8%) of passing attempts, Brissett added 83 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. But before the 2017 season, the Patriots sent him to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, even though he had demonstrated promise.

Brissett was a starting quarterback with the Colts for four years. After signing in 2021, he played for five more starts with the Miami Dolphins before having a one-and-done contract with the Cleveland Browns in 2022. The next offseason, after making 11 starts as a Brown, he signed up with the Commanders as a backup.

Brissett has played in 79 games overall, making 48 starts. In 10574 yards 51 touchdowns and 23 interceptions, he has completed 981 of 1,600 passes (61.3%) at the NFL level. He has fifteen touchdowns on the ground as well.

NFL 2023 review

Season recap: Following his 11 starts for the Browns in 2022 as a substitute for a suspended Deshaun Watson, Brissett left the organization in free agency. The Commanders signed him to a one-year, $8 million contract accompanied by $7.5 million in guarantees. With that deal, he had a chance to challenge Sam Howell for the starting job in Washington, but in the end, he lost out and played much of the season as a quarterback three.

Brissett participated in three games while holding that position. His first three snaps of the season were handoffs, and the Commanders were trailing 45–15 against the Miami Dolphins at the time of the opportunity, which came late in an already lopsided Week 13 game.

Washington was down 28-7 with nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of a game vs the Los Angeles Rams two weeks after receiving a bye. Still, Brissett guided two consecutive touchdown drives to close the gap to one score. Despite this, he finished the game 8 of 10 for 124 yards and two touchdowns, even though L.A. ran out the time.

Introduce in Week 16

He was introduced halfway through the third quarter of the Week 16 game against the New York Jets, with the score at 27-7. Brissett nearly pulled off another great comeback. With less than five minutes remaining, he pushed the Commanders ahead 28-27, completing 10 of 13 throws for 100 yards and a touchdown. In the final five seconds of the game, the Jets did manage to score the winning field goal.

Despite all of his success and the challenges facing Washington’s starting quarterback, Brissett never made it to the first round. In reality, he missed the last two games of the season due to a hamstring injury, playing as an emergency No. 3. You may also like: Finding Which Teams Will Win Last in Each Division NFL 2024

NFL 2024 preview

What part will he play? Although the Patriots had four quarterbacks under deal, during spring practices Brissett was the best option. It remains to be seen if that status holds going into the season, largely based on how first-round rookie Drake Maye develops in the offence. There are just two roles that Brissett may play in 2024: either he will be a bridge starter until Maye is ready in the last stretch of the season or in 2025.

He will be an experienced No. 2, the person who coaches the draft’s third overall selection. Right now, it seems like the first option is the most plausible. What room for growth does he have? In terms of advantages and disadvantages, Brissett is a seasoned player starting his eighth NFL season.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

As so, any expansion will probably only be slight. Having said that, he should be able to adjust to his new environment fast and even make a bigger effect than he did in Washington because he has prior experience playing in New England and has worked under Patriots offensive lineman Alex Van Pelt during their time in Cleveland in 2022.

Is he versatile in his position?

Brissett’s positional flexibility as a quarterback is certainly restricted. Nevertheless, he has demonstrated that he is capable of being more than “just” a pocket passer in the context of his role. He has completed 190 career rushing attempts, not including kneel-downs, for 953 yards (an average of 5.0 yards per run), in addition to the 15 scores previously noted. He’s hardly going to be mistaken for a young Lamar Jackson or a prime Cam Newton, but he has good footwork.

What is the status of his salary cap? In March, Brissett agreed to a one-year contract deal with the Patriots. He will be subject to a $7.882 million cap charge through the 2024 season. Included in that figure are $6.5 million in complete guarantees, which cover his $1.5 million salary as well as his $5 million signing bonus.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets

The training camp Amount

The remaining cap amount consists of a $500,000 workout bonus and a $1 million roster bonus, of which $882,353 is now counted against New England’s books due to its likelihood of being earned. Is his status on the roster secure? Brissett will be listed on the Patriots 53-man roster for the duration of the 2018 season, barring any mishap or accident. Not only is a release extremely unlikely given the $6.5 million dead money charge against him, but he also projects as the starting quarterback right now.

He will remain ahead of Bailey Zappe and Joe Milton, the team’s current depth options, even if Drake Maye passes him. One-sentence prediction: Brissett will start the regular season as the Patriots starting quarterback and will be an improvement over 2023 at the position; however, the team will be able to turn the ball over to Drake Maye for the final four games due to a late bye week.

Now that training camps are almost upon us, it’s time to face certain facts. One team possibly your club must place bottom in its division. Using depth charts, spring practice reports, and schedules as a guide, we forecasted which team would place bottom in each category. We have explained on each of the slides below why these clubs are more likely to receive a top-10 draft pick in 2025 than a postseason berth in 2024.

With a few team records changed somewhat, our revised win-loss expectations are rather similar to those from May.

AFC East: New England Patriots

Miami Dolphins: (11-6)

New York Jets: (10-7)

Buffalo Bills: (9-8)

New England Patriots: (4-13)

Notwithstanding their tremendous coaching turnover and lack of a trustworthy quarterback, the New England Patriots are a powerful team in the AFC East. In an attempt to create a new culture, they will have a quarterback competition between veteran Jacoby Brissett and rookie Drake Maye, who needs to improve before taking the field.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

“Coach Jerod Mayo admitted that while the Pats were smitten with Maye’s high potential, they were curious about his low floor even before they selected him in the first round. In essence, they acknowledged that Maye, a 21-year-old quarterback who was the second youngest to be drafted, is a little raw. They’re therefore quite happy to open the season with Brissett as quarterback if they have to wait to start Maye.”

Five different clubs have had Brissett run their offences. Though not a spectacular passer, he is a reliable veteran quarterback who won’t blow you away. With Maye and two promising wide receivers in Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker, the Patriots might have a bright future, but they’re not prepared to play against their opponents who have postseason hopes and experienced quarterbacks.

AFC North: Cleveland Browns

Pittsburgh Steelers: 9-8

Cincinnati Bengals: 11-6

Cleveland Browns: 8-9

Baltimore Ravens: 10-7

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets

Since joining the Cleveland Browns, quarterback Deshaun Watson has dealt with personal behaviour troubles and injuries. Watson has completed 12 games with 14 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions. In 2022, he was suspended for 11 games and missed 11 games because of injury. The run-heavy system of the Browns might rely a lot on Watson, who has only completed 59.8% of his throws in the past two seasons. Rushing back Nick Chubb is still rehabilitating, thus Cleveland could fall back in 2024.

AFC South: Tennessee Titans

Jacksonville Jaguars: 8-9

Tennessee Titans: 5-12

Houston Texans: 12-5

Indianapolis Colts: 9-8

Despite their offseason additions, head coach Brian Callahan’s Tennessee Titans are likely to have difficulties as they forge a new identity. Wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Tyler Boyd bolster the team’s wideout corps, and centre Lloyd Cushenberry III and rookie first-round pick JC Latham form a potent offensive line. But the team’s inexperienced quarterback-coach combination and quarterback Will Levis could make it difficult for them to get better. Success for the squad in the future hinges on their capacity to get past their present difficulties.

AFC West: Denver Broncos

Kansas City Chiefs: (11-6)

Los Angeles Chargers: (9-8)

Las Vegas Raiders: (8-9)

Denver Broncos (6-11)

There is competition for quarterback spots between the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders, with the Raiders boasting a top-10 scoring defence and the Broncos having defensive concerns. The Broncos released Justin Simmons, their most effective defence, after finishing in the bottom six in terms of points and yards allowed in the previous campaign.

Under head coach Sean Payton, the Broncos are rebuilding, and the Chargers have upgraded to Jim Harbaugh. The Broncos’ inability to defeat the Raiders since 2019 may have a decisive effect on the division’s outcome.

NFC East: New York Giants

Philadelphia Eagles: (12-5)

Dallas Cowboys: (8-9)

Washington Commanders: (7-10)

New York Giants: (4-13)

In 2024, how would the New York Giants earn points? After Saquon Barkley joined with the Philadelphia Eagles, Devin Singletary was signed by the Giants. But in a single season, Singletary hasn’t amassed 1,100 scrimmage yards or ran for 900 yards. Daniel Jones could irritate first-round wideout Malik Nabers since he hasn’t demonstrated long-term ability.

The Washington Commanders could move up in the standings with the assistance of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, but the Giants will need to strengthen their defence, which is led by Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence II. NFC North: Minnesota Vikings

Detroit Lions: (13-4)

Green Bay Packers: (10-7)

Chicago Bears: (10-7)

Minnesota Vikings: (8-9)

Notwithstanding their dismal record, the Minnesota Vikings are expected to see a significant uptick in performance between 2023 and 2024. Under Dan Campbell, the Detroit Lions have significantly improved, and the Green Bay Packers have won a postseason game and qualified for the playoffs. The Chicago Bears selected Caleb Williams, who has a strong offensive line, with the first overall pick.

Kirk Cousins, the quarterback for the Vikings, was traded, and Sam Darnold who has battled with turnovers was signed. Darnold’s unpredictable plays could cause the Vikings to struggle, which could affect how well they play in close games.

NFC South: Carolina Panthers

Atlanta Falcons: (9-8)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: (8-9)

New Orleans Saints: (7-10)

Carolina Panthers: (3-14)

With rookie running back Jonathan Brooks recovering from an ACL tear and second-year quarterback Bryce Young coming back from a disappointing first season, the Carolina Panthers, led by first-year head coach Dave Canales, are having trouble winning the NFC South. Miles Sanders and Chuba Hubbard, two running backs for Carolina, were both able to gain yards on the ground at a rate of fewer than 3.9 per carry during the previous campaign.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

Young might lead the NFL in sacks taken for an extended period if the Panthers’ offensive line doesn’t improve up front, and Canales will find it difficult to establish the run game. Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis are Carolina’s new guards. Ikem Ekwonu, a left tackle, must live up to first-round expectations for the team. Austin Corbett, the centre, is recuperating from a knee injury that ended his season. It might take the Panthers a whole season to establish their brand and utilize it to connect winning runs.

NFC West: Arizona Cardinals

San Francisco 49ers: (11-6)

Los Angeles Rams: (9-8)

Seattle Seahawks: (7-10)

Arizona Cardinals: (6-11)

In the NFC West, the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers are outperforming the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals. During the last two years, the Seahawks and Cardinals have made personnel and coaching changes, but Arizona’s defence will cause them to finish last in the NFC West. On the defensive end of the field, the Seahawks have far more skill.

Four of their starters, Leonard Williams, Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, and Julian Love, have all been to at least one Pro Bowl. In this year’s first round of the draft, they also selected defensive tackle Byron Murphy II. Head coach Mike Macdonald of Seattle, who guided the Baltimore Ravens to a top-nine receiving and total defence in 2022 and 2023, can ease the burden on his developing offence by limiting the opponent’s scoring opportunities. Perhaps Kyler Murray does not enjoy the same luxury.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

The quarterback-receiver combination for the Cardinals could be explosive, with Murray finding rookie first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr. with passes. Trey McBride has the potential to become one of the top pass-catching tight ends in the NFL. Arizona’s offence will win them games. But the Cardinals lack the defensive playmakers needed to slow down opponents, which could lead to an excessive number of scoring shootouts for them in 2024.

Arizona drafted Darius Robinson and free agents Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones to enhance its run defense, with Zaven Collins transitioning to outside linebacker.

In the current environment, when league scoring is down (43.5 scores per game in 2023) for the third straight year, it can be difficult to ignite an explosive attack. Not each squad has the pieces to pull off massive gains on any given down, whether it’s due to flaws with protection, skill-positioning, or just bad quarterback performance.

However, practically every organization finds fresh life in the offseason, and a few might be ready to become more competitive. The following five NFL clubs could have greater explosiveness in 2024:

Kansas City Chiefs

And if Andy Reid persisted on sticking with the offensive philosophy that turned the NFL into its first back-to-back Super Bowl champions in nineteen years, then nobody could blame him. But Reid doesn’t play the field confortabilely, and the Chiefs advise is already pushing his best player to pursue the ball more aggressively downfield.

“As Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes stated in May, I think we’ve done a great job of mastering the intermediate and short stuff, but we want to get back to having that part of the offense as well. We’re getting a lot of pushback from Coach Reid to move it down the field. Though we are attempting to make it happen, it is difficult to do so against our defense.”

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets

Mahomes, who has reduced his long passes since making his MVP debut in 2018, should be relieved to see defenders lining up to block him from getting such looks. Mahomes’s lowest intended air yard average of his career (6.6) in 2023 was partly due to a subpar receiving corps. Marquise Brown and rookie first-round selection Xavier Worthy instantly alter the dynamic of that group with their quickness, but before Mahomes targets them regularly, they must both establish their trustworthiness.

One possible problem: When Donovan Smith is replaced at left tackle by either rookie Kingsley Suamataia or 2023 third-round pick Wanya Morris, left tackle might become a bit of a sore spot. Nevertheless, the Chiefs could be more spectacular this season with Mahomes possibly able to use the entire field if the rest of the line stays healthy.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence is among the NFL’s greatest deep passers, but the Jaguars haven’t been able to put together a reliable downfield offence. According to Next Gen Stats, Lawrence threw the ball in the third-fastest time of any quarterback last season (2.51 seconds), and he often settled for underneath target Evan Engram, who topped all tight ends with 143 targets but only averaged 8.4 yards per catch.

Jacksonville now has a chance to get things going in the passing game, though. Lawrence now has the powerful deep threats he lacked on the outside in Gabe Davis (6-2, 225 pounds) and Brian Thomas Jr. (6-3, 209 pounds), free agents who were selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Calvin Ridley’s departure as the team’s best option hurt the receiving corps.

In the meantime, the majority of the heavy lifting for the team in the beneath and intermediate zones may still be done by Engram and slot target Christian Kirk. But if the offensive line can provide the quarterback with enough protection may determine whether the Jaguars can capitalize on Lawrence’s big-play ability.

The addition of centre Mitch Morse and the re-signing of left guard Ezra Cleveland, who joined Jacksonville in the middle of the season and will now have a full offseason to learn Taylor’s system, could strengthen the inside. You may also like: Bargain Bin Players Who would be needful NFL 2024

Carolina Panthers

The deep passing play was virtually nonexistent for Carolina last summer due to the team’s offensive collapse. It couldn’t take chances downfield because Bryce Young suffered a league-high 62 sacks and receivers seldom ever created separation. Carolina had the fewest throw plays of 20 or more yards (31), not to mention that they tied for the lowest-scoring offence (13.9 points per game).

Changes in scheme and personnel may boost the Panthers, even though they can’t count on a ton of big plays to start Dave Canales’ first season as head coach. An offence that is probably going to be led by rookie running back Jonathan Brooks and the ground game may not look like a unit with a lot of big-play potential at first glance. Even though Canales has stressed that Young must move the ball swiftly. The Panthers should see a lot of play-action shots to gain yardage in big chunks.

All of this is part of a comprehensive plan to lessen the workload for the top pick in 2023. The first, and most costly, step in that strategy was securing lucrative contracts with offensive guards Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt to protect Young from the interior pressure that often knocked him down during the previous season. Carolina’s receiving corps has seen a revamp with Xavier Legette and Diontae Johnson, aiming to maintain cohesiveness and challenge defenses with long gains.

Indianapolis Colts

Many anticipated that Anthony Richardson, a dual-threat quarterback, would work with Jonathan Taylor to confuse defences when Indianapolis selected him with the fourth overall pick in the previous year’s draft. However, Taylor’s ankle injury kept him out of the first four games of the season. Indianapolis’ backfield can now unleash their potential, after a rookie signal-caller sustained a shoulder injury, allowing them to enjoy the game with their star running back.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets

“In January, Colts coach Shane Steichen stated, We’re going to benefit greatly from combining those guys in the backfield. Undoubtedly, during training camp and the spring, we’ll get those reps and develop that connection with those two back there. With two of those guys in the backfield, we have a chance to be effective.”

The unique combination of Richardson’s stature (6-4, 244 pounds) and speed makes him extremely difficult to bring down in the open field. As a result, defenders will find it difficult to stop runs from Taylor and Richardson. Richardson’s exceptional arm strength, though, might be what makes the attack stand out.

This team may easily surpass the 45 throw plays of 20 yards or more it posted the previous season, especially if Alec Pierce or rookie second-round pick Adonai Mitchell step up as a deep threat. One of the NFL’s finest offensive lines sets the tone for this team.

New York Jets

Due to Aaron Rodgers’ ruptured Achilles tendon in the first game, things went south, and Gang Green ended up here almost by accident. Naturally, Rodgers’ probable return could have a significant impact on a team that was plagued by subpar play under the centre and finished 31st in yards per play (4.3). Though Rodgers will once again be the focal point of the Jets’ expectations.

NFL London Tickets | NFL London 2024 Tickets | NFL Tickets

Several summer additions gave cause for further optimism. Due to front-line injuries, the Jets’ offensive line consisted of 13 different combinations in 2023, with nine players playing multiple positions. This position group has the potential to be among the best in the game if everyone remains healthy, and it will give Aaron Rodgers plenty of freedom to take risks downfield.

Others in the Jets offence could be in line for full star turns. Although Garrett Wilson has surpassed 1,000 yards in both of his first two seasons, Rodgers could be able to assist the receiver move past his disappointment from the previous campaign. In addition, Breece Hall, who proved his mettle as a bell cowback last season by persevering through an ACL tear, may be in for a big role.

With ten possible inexpensive free agents anticipated to find new homes before Week 1, teams could see another wave of signings this year.

S Jamal Adams

Security Jamal Adams might not be able to regain his prior level of play because of injuries and patchy coverage. He last demonstrated Pro Bowl form in 2020. In spite of this, he may nevertheless be a valuable rotating box safety and hybrid linebacker. Given that the Ravens have expressed interest in Adams and had a meeting with him in May, a return to Seattle would be an intriguing option for incoming head coach Mike Macdonald.

LB Kwon Alexander

Kwon Alexander was a competent rotational player who was injured in an Achilles tendon. He was an afterthought to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defence in 2023. Despite his ailments, he participated in all 17 games in 2022 and has missed at least four since 2017. Alexander, who is about to turn 30, might be affordable for the team. The Baltimore Ravens and the Green Bay Packers could both use him.

OT David Bakhtiari

Former All-Pro offensive tackle David Bakhtiari wants to get back to his pre-injury level after having knee surgery in November. The Kansas City Chiefs, who have problems at tackle after not re-signing Donovan Smith, and the Cleveland Browns, who lost important players to injuries last season, might find him to be a good value as a free agency. With Bakhtiari back, the position of a top-tier left tackle in 2024 might be filled.

CB Stephon Gilmore

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore, 33, had a cap charge of just $10.0 million in the previous season. He is a five-time Pro Bowler and a former NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Last season, he started all 17 games and participated in 94% of defensive snaps. Since the 49ers and Kansas City have formidable defences against elite passers, Gilmore is intent on playing and thinks both teams may offer the ideal opportunity.

Edge Carl Lawson

Carl Lawson and other valuable pass-rushers are still available in the 2024 free-agent class at a price that fits under the cap. Despite playing in just 24% of the defensive snaps for the Jets in 2022, Lawson recorded seven sacks and twenty-four quarterback pressures. Given that they have one excellent edge rusher and one excellent pass rusher.

Lawson may be of interest to the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. Jadeveon Clowney left the Ravens in free agency, so they will need to find a replacement.

Edge Yannick Ngakoue

It is anticipated that NFL pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue, who had a career-low four sacks and eleven quarterback pressures with the Chicago Bears, would get back to his previous level. Ngakoue’s return to form could be of interest to the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders, who both need additional edge support and have a potent sack-producing rotation.

Edge Emmanuel Ogbah

An important late acquisition to the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings is Emmanuel Ogbah, a talented defender with eight years of experience. Because of his small impact in Miami. He only had 5.5 sacks and 15 QB pressures Ogbah is a cheap choice. With a potent pass-rushing rotation under head coach Vic Fangio.

Along with Ogbah’s expertise, the Eagles could use both. Due to Ogbah’s relationship with Vikings defensive backs coach Brian Flores, the Vikings may also give him some thought. You may like: NFL 2024: The players at Minicamp that most impressed us

WR Hunter Renfrow

Hunter Renfrow is a receiver, so eventually a team has to take a chance on him, right? Although the 28-year-old has had difficulty the last two seasons, in 2021 he was a member of the Raiders Pro Bowl. Renfrow was hampered by injuries in 2022, and he lost favour the previous season. Renfrow played in 27 games during that time. But he only managed 61 catches for 585 yards and two scores. At the beginning of the offseason, Renfrow was released by Las Vegas.

In 2021, though, Renfrow demonstrated that he could be a useful slot alternative. During the season, he had nine touchdowns and 1,038 yards from 103 catches. If healthy, Renfrow should have no reason to fear reverting to its former form. An obvious choice for Renfrow is the New Orleans Saints. Following Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, New Orleans lacks consistent receiving depth. Also, Renfrow and quarterback Derek Carr might get back together.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

Renfrow is another player the Denver Broncos should consider. With Courtland Sutton gone, Denver is short on reliable pass catchers and is focusing on developing rookie quarterback Bo Nix. Renfrow’s Raiders Pro Bowl season occurred during a time when John Morton, Denver’s coordinator of the passing game, was a senior offensive assistant.

OT Donovan Smith

Multiple Super Bowl-winning left tackles are rarely available for less than market value. Donovan Smith, though, is a bit of an exception. Despite recent success with the Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Smith, 31, has never been a top player. According to Pro Football Focus, Smith was accountable for 21 penalties and gave up eight sacks in the previous two seasons.

Smith signed a meagre $3 million one-year contract to play for Kansas City last season. He has started all 136 of his regular-season games, has a ton of postseason experience, and doesn’t have many injury worries. Under new head coach Jerod Mayo, the New England Patriots are rebuilding, and Smith would be a great target for them. In addition to offering important protection in front of rookie quarterback Drake Maye, Smith might assist in demonstrating to New England what it takes to win.

NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets | NFL Tickets

Trent Brown left New England in free agency, and the team will probably see a duel for left tackle between rookie third-round pick Caedan Wallace and former Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor. The Cleveland Browns ought to be considering Smith as well, considering their lack of clarity over injuries at the tackle position. He might run into current backup quarterback Jameis Winston, a former Buccaneers colleague, in Cleveland.

WR Michael Thomas

To put it gently, Michael Thomas has changed as a receiver from what he previously was. Thomas had four seasons with at least 1,100 receiving yards, three with over 100 receptions, three Pro Bowl appearances, and two first-team All-Pro selections during his first four years in the NFL. In 2019, he was crowned Offensive Player of the Year for his performances and also led the NFL in receiving.

Thomas has experienced a marked downturn over the past four years, mostly as a result of injuries. He has only played in 20 games throughout that time, hasn’t surpassed 500 yards in a season, and missed the entirety of the 2021 season. Thomas, a seasoned quarterback in his 31st year, might be added to the Saints’ roster. He had 10 games last season with 39 catches, 448 yards, and a score. The Denver Broncos or the Carolina Panthers could find great value in him.

NFL 2024: The players at Minicamp that most impressed us

On July 16, rookies enter for training camp, and on July 23, the team’s main activities start. Which athletes most astonished their coaches and teammates? When rotational fights heat up in the autumn, our NFL Nation writers chose one performer or two, in the case of the Dallas Cowboys who surprisingly rose to the occasion and might have a big influence.

CB Kaiir Elam

With his numerous interceptions during the offseason, Elam appeared to have advanced and made an impression. Injury concerns have contributed to the 2022 first-round pick spending most of his first two seasons as a backup. Since cornerback Rasul Douglas missed the team’s optional sessions and corner Christian Benford was excused from the required minicamp due to a family matter.

He has an alternate coach in Jahmile Addae. He has had plenty of time on the field throughout the summer. With Douglas and Benford as the front-runners, Elam has a big camp ahead of him to demonstrate his abilities.

TE Jody Fortson Jr.

Jonnu Smith was brought in by the Dolphins to offer a receiving threat at tight end, but Fortson has impressed during spring training. His catch radius is broad, and he’s demonstrated the ability to recover yardage after the catch. With Smith and Durham Smythe on the roster and so many pass-catchers in the Dolphins’ offence, the former Kansas City Chiefs tight end will have a difficult time logging significant workloads. However, early results indicate that Fortson can make an impact when called upon, however infrequently that may be.

RB Braelon Allen

Although Allen, a 2024 fourth-round selection, only had 49 catches in three seasons at Wisconsin, he wasn’t well-known for his receiving in college. But he demonstrated his abilities in the minicamp. His ball abilities and body control were excellent. Despite weighing 235 pounds, he was able to play like a smaller back by splitting out.

CB Dax Hill

Hill was in a vulnerable position going into the summer. Last season, the 2022 first-round selection was the starting free safety in an unsuccessful experiment. Hill was switched to outside cornerback, where he plays with a commanding presence against DJ Turner, a 2023 second-round pick who has made 12 starts. Hill accepted the change well and caused trouble in the team’s required minicamp during the 7-on-7 drills. He appears to be a valuable member of the Bengals as they prepare for training camp.

WR Cedric Tillman

The best receivers for the Browns were absent for most of their offseason training program. An injury kept Jerry Jeudy out of the game while Amari Cooper was absent due to what appeared to be a contract disagreement. Coaches commended Tillman, a 2023 third-round pick, for his development and dedication, since their absences gave numerous inexperienced pass-catchers opportunity.

Cleveland saw that as he developed a relationship with quarterback Deshaun Watson, he showed attention to detail in the weight room and meetings. Tillman is off to a tremendous start, but Jeudy, Cooper, and Elijah Moore are three receivers with whom he will have severe competition for targets.

TE Pat Freiermuth

Right now, Arthur Smith’s strategy is a tight end’s dream, awakening Freiermuth from his dreaded prospect of a 2023 campaign. A career-low 32 catches for 308 yards less than half of his 2022 output were the result of a persistent hamstring ailment and a dysfunctional offense. With a new quarterback and offensive coordinator, though, the 2021 second-round pick is primed for a comeback.

NFL London Tickets| NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets| NFL Tickets

He showed an early rapport with the quarterback position Russell Wilson during spring training. Though if Freiermuth keeps up the kind of upward trajectory he set this spring, the Steelers may find that having no reliable WR2 option becomes less significant. Brooke Pryor

WR John Metchie III

A second-round pick in the 2022 draft, Metchie is displaying the qualities that made him so. Following an ACL tear in December 2021 and a cancer diagnosis in 2022, the former Alabama standout played in just one season last year. Finishing with 16 receptions for 158 yards, the extended absence was evident. Still, his explosiveness seems to be returning. The first-team offence has also used him in their rotation.

Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell, and Nico Collins occupy the receiver room, but Metchie is setting himself up for a rotating role in the event that he has a stellar training camp. You may also like: NFL 2024: Six New Playoff Teams to Watch

RB Trey Sermon

After Zack Moss left in free agency, there was no obvious alternative, therefore it’s unclear who will take Jonathan Taylor’s place as the reserve wide receiver. With his relentless work ethic earning him first dibs on the job, Sermon seems to be the most likely candidate for the position as of right now.

NFL London Tickets| NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets| NFL Tickets

This is the closest Sermon has gotten to developing some consistency in his career, despite being on three teams in four seasons. Though Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull, two other backups, will undoubtedly be important players in this contest, he averaged 4.6 yards per attempt the previous season.

CB Gabe Jeudy-Lally

Because veteran players Chidobe Awuzie and L’Jarius Sneed participated in a limited capacity during OTAs and minicamps, Jeudy-Lally, an undrafted free agent, made the most of his opportunities. In defence coordinator Dennard Wilson’s aggressive scheme, Jeudy-Lally claimed he felt confident enough to play because of his length and ease in press coverage.

I can utilize my length to its fullest potential if I get up there and give myself the chance to win by grabbing men and positioning myself well. After that, everything else falls into place. In OTAs, he got a nice jam on Treylon Burks, which instantly demonstrated his confidence. Standing up to DeAndre Hopkins for a few repetitions, Jeudy-Lally also held his own.

NFL London Tickets| NFL Tickets
NFL London Tickets| NFL Tickets

LB Cody Barton

The Broncos acquired Barton in free agency, believing he would be a valuable asset on special teams and, with luck, be able to carve out a defensive role as well. However, Barton had fully entered the competition to take Josey Jewell’s place as the starting middle linebacker going into the Broncos’ post-offseason training. Jonas Griffith, who suffered an ACL tear during training camp and missed the previous season, will be Barton’s opponent.

WR Nikko Remigio

During OTAs and minicamp, Remigio got a solid run with the first unit due in part to Xavier Worthy’s ailing hamstring, and he took advantage of his opportunities. During training camp, he will struggle to make enough plays to get into a playing group that includes Kadarius Toney, Worthy, Marquise Brown, Skyy Moore, and Justin Watson. Remigio may have an advantage in making the squad because of his skills as a kickoff returner. He signed on with the Chiefs as an undrafted rookie last season.

On 31 July, the day prior the Chicago Bears take on the Houston Texans to open the preseason Hall of Fame Game, we’ll meet our greatest team.

New England Patriots

Drake Maye, a quarterback from North Carolina, was selected by the Patriots and will usher in a new chapter for the franchise. The Patriots decided to keep Maye and refill the roster despite other clubs showing interest in the third-overall pick. Maye, the top-draft choice for a quarterback, can be successful if his aggressive style doesn’t lead to turnover problems. The Patriot’s offence hasn’t improved around him, so Maye needs to develop into a desired quarterback.

Denver Broncos

Despite Patrick Surtain II being a great cornerback and Courtland Sutton scoring ten touchdowns last season, the Broncos’ offensive line is not very good, and rookie Bo Nix is not a lock to start in Week 1. The QB6 in the draft class is a hit, and the team lacks the necessary pieces to win soon. The squad will face difficulties because of the Broncos’ previous setbacks, which included Wilson’s loss.

Panthers of Carolina

Dave Canales, the former offensive coordinator for Tampa Bay, was hired by the Panthers as their new head coach after an excellent season. His impact on Baker Mayfield’s career was so great that the Panthers had to take notice. In addition to investing $153 million in guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis, running back Jonathan Brooks, tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, and wide Diontae Johnson via trade, Carolina also drafted receiver Xavier Legette.

Washington Commanders

It’s a wonderful offseason when you land a highly sought-after coach, a general manager everyone wants, and a quarterback that almost everyone believes is the best in the draft class. That kind of core can quickly turn around a franchise. Using the Texans as an example of a team that can turn things around quickly is problematic because they received an unusual number of green lights.

DeMeco Ryans, a fantastic head coach whom they hired, most likely would not have considered them if he had been selected by another team in the past. Despite not having the top pick in the draft, they managed to select C.J. Stroud at number two, and he went on to become one of the best rookie quarterbacks in NFL history. You may also like: London NFL 2024: Ranking the best running backs

New York Giants

Though it’s difficult to move on from quarterbacks, the Giants might have easily done so with Daniel Jones if they hadn’t missed the playoffs the previous two seasons. They most likely lost out on $92 million in guaranteed compensation to Jones as a result of that playoff run and victory.

They may have delayed evaluating their roster and their level of contention as a result of it. Had they been more rational, they might not have made the trade of 30-year-old tight end Darren Waller to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round draft pick (100th overall). After 552 yards and one touchdown, he announced his retirement this offseason.

Tennessee Titans

Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, has been hired by the Tennessee Titans to take over for former head coach Mike Vrabel. The shotgun formation will be the main source of passing for Callahan’s team. Will Levis, who made a strong start and returned from injury against the Atlanta Falcons, will be crucial to the Titans’ success and will need to win over the new coaching staff.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders’ best chance this season is to ensure that the quarterback who wins the starting job is prepared for success upon his arrival. Brock Bowers, a tight end, ought to be an essential player. Even though he is in his prime and currently plays for the Raiders in Las Vegas, Davante Adams could be traded at some point. Christian Wilkins, a $110 million free agent signed by the Miami Dolphins, could improve the defensive line.

Antonio Pierce, the head coach, might be a fantastic fit for many years. Still, the Raiders are in a strange spot. They have momentum as they enter a new era, but most of the reconstruction work remains unresolved. They invested in Wilkins as though they were a contender, but that may take some time. Raider’s supporters can finally move on from the Josh McDaniels era if nothing else.

Arizona Cardinals

The uncommon four-win squad with some outstanding victories was the Cardinals. They began the season with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys. They triumphed against playoff teams on the road, defeating the Steelers and Eagles. Arizona finished the playoffs with four wins total, although they were higher calibre victories than some other teams. While recovering from an ACL tear, Kyler Murray missed the first half of the season.

Even though the Cardinals might have been superior. Though the season was far from ideal, the Cardinals ought to have been encouraged by some of the things they observed during Gannon’s debut campaign. The Cardinals’ ability to draft Marvin Harrison Jr. may wind up being the best news of all those victories. The Cardinals were unlucky to be selected with the fourth overall pick because all three of the first three teams in the draft required a quarterback.

Because of this, the Cardinals who are already giving Murray a large salary were able to select the player who is maybe the best in the draft, regardless of position. Harrison was one of the top college receivers in recent years and a formidable force at Ohio State. He is one of those special receivers who has the potential to define a team for a decade.

Los Angeles Chargers

Jim Harbaugh has a proven track record at several universities, including Michigan, Stanford, and the University of San Diego. The Chargers are hopeful that Harbaugh will infuse their team with wins and importance. Though the team’s current troubles with quarterback Justin Herbert, star receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and running back Austin Ekeler might not be as severe as their 5-12 campaign from the previous season.

Minnesota Vikings

Despite having to make the painful choice to part ways with Kirk Cousins, the Minnesota Vikings took solace in their reliable quarterback performance. They altered Cousins’ deal despite having two postseason appearances and three losing seasons. To select Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who ultimately dropped to No. 10, the Vikings also moved up one position in the draft. McCarthy may not live up to expectations, but the Vikings are in a stronger position right now.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr, the quarterback for the Saints, will likely help them perform better. Last season, Pro Football Focus ranked him 19th out of 38 eligible quarterbacks. The offence might be revitalized by Klint Kubiak, the replacement for Pete Carmichael as offensive coordinator. Using Carr’s contract as a starting point, the Saints have begun reorganizing to save $23 million against the salary cap. The NFL’s oldest team, the Saints, are unlikely to contend or be compelled to make significant changes given their age.

Seattle Seahawks

After two successful seasons leading the Baltimore Ravens defence, Mike Macdonald will take Pete Carroll’s place as the Seahawks’ longstanding leader. In his debut season, Macdonald’s young enthusiasm and team-building skills could help the Seahawks make a run at the playoffs. Carroll would benefit from having Geno Smith, a 32-year-old journeyman quarterback who led the league in completion % in 2022.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

A $100 million contract, with a $50 million guarantee, was inked by Baker Mayfield for three years. With their NFC South title and a 32-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Buccaneers had a great season. The Buccaneers’ impressive performance in the previous season, including nearly eliminating the Detroit Lions from the playoffs, raises questions about reproducibility and their ability to maintain their status in the NFC South.

Since then, at least one match has been played on the opposite side of the Atlantic, with Twickenham Stadium serving as the host site on a few occasions and the recently opened Tottenham Hotspur Stadium entering the competition. In London, 36 games have been played in total. Here are a few of the most thrilling and nail-biting Sunday morning games we’ve seen throughout the years.

30 October 2016: Washington Commanders 27 & Cincinnati Bengals 27

A game that took place in 2016 between the Cincinnati Bengals and the squad currently known as the Washington Commanders brought back memories for British sports enthusiasts. Even after overtime, the final result was an odd 27-27 draw, which is uncommon in American football but typical in football played by other countries. Fans were on the verge of their seats throughout the game’s overtime due to its unrelenting back-and-forth action.

As time ran out, Washington had a window of opportunity that might have broken the impasse. They positioned kicker Dustin Hopkins such that all they needed to do to win was a straightforward 34-yard field goal, setting them up well for victory. But Hopkins could not convert, and after two minutes, the score was officially tied.

29 September 2013: Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Minnesota Vikings 34

In 2013, the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers played an incredible game in London. Adrian Peterson carved out a road to greatness after racking up 140 yards and two touchdowns at Wembley Stadium. With 383 yards of passing and a score, Pittsburgh quarterback “Big” Ben Roethlisberger put on a display in the gloom of the original “Big Ben.”

Though Minnesota’s final score gave them a 17-point lead, his interception in the second half was not quite enough to seal the victory for the Steelers. With the game coming down to the wire, the Minnesota defence raised their game. The Steelers were able to drive to the six-yard line with 19 seconds remaining thanks to a drive by Roethlisberger, but the Vikings prevailed after Everson Griffen’s strip and sack.

26 October 2008: San Diego Chargers 32, New Orleans Saints 37

2008’s New Orleans Saints vs. San Diego Chargers game altered the NFL London series forever. With a score of 37–32, it is still the highest-scoring game in the history of the London Series despite being the only game played there.
