Olympic table tennis legend Sharath Kamal’s interview

The 40-year-old pioneer of Indian Olympic table tennis legend had his best season to date, taking home four medals from the Commonwealth Games and earning the Khel Ratna in the process. Paris Olympic fans can buy Olympic Games 2024 Tickets from our website.

In the same year that he turned 40 and had his best season in a long, brilliant career, Achanta Sharath Kamal, a famous figure in Indian table tennis, retired from competition. Later, he won four medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, including his first-ever gold in the mixed doubles tournament.

He began by winning his record-extending eleventh national championship early on. The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the highest sporting distinction in the country, was given to the Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee as a result of their exploits.

After having such a fantastic year, he is a man full of confidence, and the successes have just increased his already indomitable desire. He is a virtuoso at playing the game and a wonderful orator outside of it. He casually discussed his season, his preparation for the Commonwealth Games, his fitness regimen, and other subjects with Scroll in.

Several quotations from the conversation

How would you characterize the 2022 season?

I wished that the year would never end. This year has been the best I’ve had in terms of performance or the kind of acclaim I’ve gotten for my accomplishments in table tennis. Vice-chair of the IOA Athletes Commission and then co-chair of the ITTF Athletes Commission. Numerous things have happened, especially in the second half of 2022.

The beginning was equally great. I played in the semifinals of a competition with a global ranking and won the Indian National Championships for the eleventh time (WTT Contender, Doha, in March). None of these items are even addressed because they were so little in comparison to what came later.

None of these items are significant since they were relatively unimportant in comparison to what came later even mentioned.

Prior to the Olympic Games, I thought 2021 was my best year. How well and at what level I competed against Olympic gold medalist Ma Long is still a topic of discussion. I think it will also be spoken about in the future because of how I played, how I behaved, and how well I played table tennis.

That was outstanding and of the highest caliber. Sincerely, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to continue performing at that level in 2022, but the results have already surpassed 2021. There isn’t much I can genuinely hope will change from how things have been. Paris Olympic 2024 fans can buy Paris Olympic 2024 Tickets from our website.

You had never won a gold medal in mixed doubles, which was awarded at the CWG.

Do you remember the circumstances that led to Sreeja Akula and you being awarded that medal?

Going into the tournament, I had no idea what to expect. I once played with Sreeja’s coach, Somnath Ghosh; nowadays, all coaches are men I’ve played with at some point. It simply goes to show how resilient I am, I guess.

We have been friends for close to 25 to 30 years and have played together. Sreeja had won the national tournament, so we knew she would be on the squad. After the nationals, he asked me, “Would it be possible for you to play with Sreeja, if you don’t mind?”

I reacted, “Yes, let’s play,” to her.

We took part in some fruitful training sessions in Hyderabad. Sreeja had very high standards. She was anxious to prevent any mistakes since she felt that it would be her fault if we lost.

In mixed doubles, the guys can easily create scenarios in which they can score. However, the boys have it tough if the girls don’t succeed. But during the competition, she truly shone. I frequently had the impression that I needed to keep explaining to her how to respond if the ball was played in a certain way the following time. By the time I got the thought, she had actually taken care of it.

Olympics 2020

She persisted in giving me courage. In the preliminary rounds, I was doing well. After the quarterfinal, things got tough for me, but she really stepped up.

You earlier remarked that, aside from showing intent during the Ma Long match in the Tokyo Olympics, you didn’t do anything particularly noteworthy. Did that start to act as a yardstick for you, showcasing your skills and motivating you to continue producing high-quality work?

Indeed, it did. I had a lot of time to prepare for the Olympics. It was initially slated for 2020, however, due to the Covid interruption, the date was later altered to 2021. My only education came from India.

I usually traveled to Europe or Asia to train with the top athletes till 2020. Naturally, I had to make certain changes in India to promote that sort of foreign environment. I gained a lot of confidence from the way I trained for the Olympics, but also.

I knew what I wanted to do this month and the month after. The goal period was every six to nine months, and a block was every three months. Of course, I’ve done a lot of practice self-analysis and trying to figure out who I am.

Four months before the Games, I started training for Rio, but I thought it was too soon for my body and mind.

I demand that a session start at least five months in advance. And the difference only widens as people get older.

But I was left with nothing to do except prepare for Tokyo for the next nine months. I altered the significant measurements. Your schedule changed because you weren’t traveling as much. The diet and exercise were both under control because there weren’t any other noteworthy occurrences or preparation-related interruptions.

What were some of the lessons you took back to Birmingham from Tokyo?

There is no doubt that it was a challenging moment for everyone. In the midst of the pandemic, things were difficult. The opinions changed. For instance, they said, “Are you crazy?,” when I asked for permission to train at a stadium.

You want to practice when folks are outside passing away. It helped put the situation into perspective.

You didn’t have to practice because the priorities were different and nobody cared. Priority one was containing the outbreak and saving lives. I had to look out for myself at that time. You were not aware of what the infection might do. We had to keep training even if we were afraid. It was a difficult situation.

But in my opinion, Team India’s participation in the Olympics was the best thing that could have happened to us. After escaping the situation we were in April and May, we arrived in Tokyo. Following that, everything went smoothly.

That is a very important lesson I learned. You have to be in that mental state to perform properly, therefore I had to adopt a more upbeat approach. Since a lot of things happened in the run-up to these Commonwealth Games, I learned a lot from the Tokyo Olympics preparation.

Olympic sites beckon as top surfers launch 2023 tour at Pipeline

As the surfing world championship gets underway in Hawaii this week, Kelly Slater will try to defend his Billabong Pro Pipeline title. There is also the added temptation of spots at the Paris 2024 Olympics up for grabs after the 10-stop international tour.

The 50-year-old Floridian shocked the surfing community by winning the competition last year in ideal conditions at the perilous Pipeline and hailed it as the best triumph of his unrivaled 30-year career. The surf forecasts for this year, though, indicate smaller, windier conditions that may be more favorable for some of Slater’s competitors, who include several eager newbies and several returning veterans.

World Surf League analyst Ronnie Blakey stated, “He’s an 11-time world champion, he’s won every event on the schedule, holds every record in the sport and he continues to do mind-blowing surfing, but the truth is, it’s getting harder, and harder for him to win.”

Both, Stephanie Gilmore of Australia and Filipe Toledo of Brazil, the current world champions, have previously acknowledged that they struggled with Pipeline’s enormous tubes. They will both be aiming to improve at the sport’s most prestigious venue.

Gilmore, who has a record eight world championships, competes in her first three-woman heat against local wildcard and defending champion Moana Jones Wong as well as her countrywoman Macy Callaghan. The loser advances to an elimination round.

The Real-Life Diet of a Legendary Olympic Rock Climber Who Eats What the Locals Eat with Chris Sharma

Chris Sharma doesn’t have an elderly accent. But in the world of competitive climbing, the 41-year-old appears to be as old as the rocky walls and the scales. He left his Santa Cruz, California, home at the age of 15 to further his climbing career. Olympic fans can buy Olympic Games Tickets from our website.

He completed a route with a difficulty grade of 5.15a in 2001 and gave it the name Realization. (It has a page on Wikipedia.) Then, in 2008, he won the first 5.15b (Jumbo Love in the Mojave Desert), and in 2013, he won the second 5.15c (La Dura in Spain).

He bridged the gap between Yosemite dirtbags and the polished TV production of climbing’s 2020 Olympic debut. He dominated competition podiums, led technical revolutions, and personified an entire generation of his sport.

GQ interviews athletes, celebrities, and other high achievers for Real-Life Diet to learn about their diets, workout routines, and the quest for wellness. Remember that not everything that works for them will necessarily be good for you.

Sharma has a long list of accomplishments, but this year he acquired a brand-new one: TV host. He is presenting The Climb, an eight-part HBO Max streaming series that aired on January 12 with American Ninja Warrior champion Meagan Martin and actor Jason Momoa (whom he has known since they first met climbing in the 1990s).

It combines elements of a climbing competition with reality television, pitting 10 hopefuls against one another on crags all over the world while Sharma and friends offer guidance and support. The living legend, though, made it obvious that the mountains continue to call and that he is already planning his next major route when GQ visited him at his home outside of Barcelona, Spain.

What did you consume when you were young?

Chris Sharma: My upbringing was different for mainstream America but rather conventional for Santa Cruz. When I was younger, I used to walk the yard and simply pick vegetables from the plants because my parents were students of the yogi Baba Hari Dass. We never followed a rigorous vegetarian diet, but rather one that was more in line with the average American diet at the time.

How did you learn what an average American diet consisted of?

Certainly on my travels. When I was 15, I began traveling extensively, which taught me how to be adaptable and open-minded. When you travel to a new country, you accept the culture even though they may offer you something that seems a little unusual.

I recall assisting a Tibetan monk obtain a visa once while I was in India. In the end, we traveled to a secret location in Delhi where we were able to get meat. Since cows are revered in India, beef is not available there. It was this dark dungeon, the roof of which was hung with cured meat. He brought me this partially preserved, bleeding meat and said, “You have to try this; it’s incredible.” How am I going to say no, you ask? But it was a little revolting. [Laughs.]

If I’m on my own, I’ll always choose to eat more vegetables. As you get older, especially if you’re an athlete, you start to focus more on your health. I’ve never been strict; instead, I’ve always tended to go with the flow. Now, though, I will turn 42 in April.

I used to be able to take a six-month break from climbing to practice meditation, then enter a competition without any prior training and come out on top. Now, I most definitely can’t do that. I’m still working on projects, pushing my limitations, and climbing at my maximum level, but to do so, I need to be more mindful of both my food and my climbing.

Those peak performance goals make you focus on all the minor details. Here in Spain, I’m going to do the hardest climb I’ve ever done. Olympic fans can buy Summer Games 2024 Tickets from our website.

Can you discuss it?

The Sleeping Lion is the name I gave it. I have a feeling the grade will be around 5.15c on this stunning chunk of rock in Siurana, Spain, which is a single-pitch route and five minutes walk from the parking lot. It is a beautiful route.

If you’ve seen King Lines from [2007], that’s really what these lines are to me. They’re not just challenging; they’re masterpieces. It’s simply incredibly amazing that it’s so accessible and that so many climbers can come and experience that. I walked past for at least 15 years while daydreaming, wondering whether there was a line you could climb.

And I’m certain I’m not the only one who has had a dream. However, I made the effort to get up there and figure it out by going there, drilling in the safety bolts, and doing all the work. Furthermore, it’s only 1.5 hours away from my place. I’ll travel there for these day trips. I’m likely to go tomorrow.

During the epidemic, we opened up two climbing gyms, and then we immediately began filming The Climb. As a result, it was three years of extremely demanding work that was entirely focused on climbing but not necessarily on me climbing.

After that, I felt like, “Man, I just want to get back to the origins of this all,” even though I had grown so much. Additionally, I began to think, “Shoot, I’m 41, and there are a lot of things I still want to accomplish as a top climber.” Your window of opportunity begins to feel smaller. To genuinely carve out time to be an Olympic Rock Climber and work on these initiatives, I’ve been concentrating throughout the past year.

It’s so simple to stray from your regimen, and once you do, you’ll find yourself a long way from your desired level of fitness. I’ve been concentrating on being consistent in my climbs. I have a favorite quote from [famous Olympic Rock Climber and mountaineer] Conrad Anker.

How do you stay fit for climbing, someone enquired of him. And he said, “By staying in shape.” I’ve thought about that. Fortunately, I’m creating these incredible climbing gyms, so I can work out whenever I want.

Olympic Shooting – Indian Shooter Manu Bhaker claimed Indians are among the best shooters, and we will achieve all Olympic 2024 allocations

Manu took first place in the junior air pistol category but had to settle for second place in the junior women’s sports pistol competition. Indian Shooter Manu Bhaker, an Olympian, was happy to finish the season strong at the National Championship in Bhopal despite how hectic it had been. Paris Olympic fans can buy Paris 2024 Tickets from our website.

Manu was at ease at a media appearance on Wednesday and stated that she was “not especially flattered” with her performances. She was pleased with both her “world-class” performance in the 25-meter sports pistol final. And her “outstanding” performance in the national championship’s air pistol qualification round.

Manu took first place in the junior air pistol category but had to settle for second place in the junior women’s sports pistol competition. After the initial challenge, the 20-year-old Manu acknowledged that the season had been “up and down,” but he was grateful for having been successful in making it to the finals and receiving medals.

She was particularly pleased to be among the most prominent residents in the country despite the shooting sport’s enormous growth. “I remember winning my first national title in front of 430 girls in all divisions. Manu stated that there were 12,000 competitors for the pistol event alone this time, and he concurred that it is much easier to obtain an Olympic quota than to make the national squad.

Indian Shooter Manu Bhaker

“We are a member of the top 1% of the world’s elite. Manu voiced his confidence in the national team’s ability to quickly snag each Olympic quota open for the Paris 2024 Games. He continued, “We will receive the Olympic quota seats.

Bhowneesh Mendiratta (trap), Rudrankksh Patil (air rifle), and Swapnil Kusale (rifle 3-position) have already secured India three Olympic tickets thanks to their exploits at the World Championships.

Manu was excited to have Bhopal, rather than Delhi, host the forthcoming World Cup after viewing the excellent facilities that the Madhya Pradesh Academy had constructed there. There will be two earlier World Cups for the rifle and pistol in January and February of next year that will grant spots for the Olympic quota in Jakarta and Cairo.

She expressly indicated that she enjoyed shooting and did not consider it to be a hardship, Manu remarked with a smile. She also stated that she was taking days off whenever necessary.

Bindra: As they prepare for the Olympics, India’s shooters should have realistic expectations.

Olympic gold winner Abhinav Bindra advises Indian shooters to prepare effectively and manage their expectations in the run-up to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Rudrankksh Patil’s victory in the air rifle event at the World Championships this year, which earned him the gold, thrilled Bindra.

Indian shooters have won a number of prestigious tournaments in the past, but they failed to take home a medal in either the Rio de Janeiro or the Tokyo Olympics. Paris Olympic 2024 fans can buy Olympic Games 2024 Tickets from our website.

Summer Games 2008:

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Bindra, who captured the first individual gold medal for India in the 10m air rifle competition, offered preparation tips. Training must be carried out systematically in order to attempt to peak at the proper time. Bindra said that careful preparation was particularly important when asked what the Indian shooters needed to do to vie for medals in the Paris Games.

Because your background is meaningless when you first start out, it’s also crucial to moderate your expectations. In sports, yesterday is never relevant. Although it can be helpful, the experience won’t give you a head start when you initially start out. Everybody is at the beginning.

It’s crucial to train in a way that will put you in the best possible position to succeed; this involves making sure your energy reserves are full and that your physical and technical condition is ideal at the right time. If you do that, you’ll have the best casual. In athletics, nothing can be written.

Rudrankksh Patil’s air rifle performance at the World Championships this year, which brought him the gold medal, pleased Bindra. Patil won after Bindra won the air rifle gold medal at the 2006 Worlds. Rudrankksh, he’s a world champion! In the coming years, I wish him nothing but the best since it is truly beautiful to see.

Undoubtedly, there is the potential to be the best even in Paris. But Bindra, the event ambassador for the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K. Says that in order to attain that aim, proper training must be done before Paris, Bindra was pleased to note the rise in the popularity of shooting in India.

Indian Olympic Players:

It has been fantastic. When I first started, our Nationals had 200 members; today, they have 12,000 members. It takes a month to finish. Unquestionably, the increase has been remarkable. Bindra talked about his role as the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) athlete commission representative (IOC).

There is a lot of activity in the IOC Athletes Commission. To ensure that athletes are always put first in decision-making processes and that their best interests are considered at all times. It only acts as a link between the leaders—the administrators—and the athletes.

We work hard to enhance the athletes’ physical and mental well-being. We work very hard to make sure that the athletes have an incredible Olympic Games experience. For instance, I have spent the last three years concentrating on athlete mental health. We made a lot of effort to provide tools for the athletes as well as to de-stigmatize them.

Bindra expressed his satisfaction with the growth of the Olympic Values Education Program. Which is run by his organization in partnership with the Odisha government. It’s incredible to see how much athletics affects people’s lives. Currently, 15,000 girls and between 35 and 40 thousand children participate in sports.

Bhowneesh Mendiratta has already secured India an Olympic ticket

For the first time, many of them are learning how much fun sports are. The first few months of this program have made a substantial difference in a number of areas. Including gender equality, behavioral improvements in girls’ sports confidence, and boys’ greater respect for girls.

We promote respect across society because it is one of the key Olympic ideals. We’re talking (with others about implementing it in other places).

Abhinav Bindra

Although nothing formally declared has yet, a number of states have expressed interest. Bindra also talked about his ongoing initiatives to work with amateur athletes.

“Across the country, we have 15 centers. They are doing amazingly well. We had a huge impact on the athletes. The nicest thing, or at least what I find promising, is that the majority of our work involves amateur athletes. I am quite passionate about that.

I believe that exceptional athletes in this nation are already adequately cared for. Whether it is by the government or other NGOs that deal with outstanding athletes. My love is working with young athletes. Both the process and the dream are drawn out.

Real help is required when young people first begin and ensure that the foundation laid is the right one, according to Bindra. Even though we never succeed in achieving the results we want.

The WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be fired, and the WFI should be dissolved, according to the wrestlers, who have been demonstrating for the past three days in the Indian capital of New Delhi. The WFI has refuted every accusation.

Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat and four other athletes claim to be speaking on behalf of the accusers to protect their anonymity and have withheld specifics of the allegations made by the teenage wrestlers.

At a press conference with the wrestlers in the nation’s capital, New Delhi, Sports Minister Thakur stated that “serious claims, be they charges of financial irregularities or sexual harassment, will be probed.”

The minister said, “Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will step aside and participate in the probe till the investigation is over. The committee will observe all day-to-day operations during that time.

Following another round of discussions between the government and wrestlers, Thakur made his announcement. According to Thakur, the committee has four weeks to complete its investigation.

The members of the oversight committee would be revealed on Saturday, he added. The Indian Olympian Association also opens an investigation. Olympic fans can buy Olympic Games 2024 Tickets from our website.

Olympic wrestler Bajrang Punia, who was present at the meeting, commented on the revelation, saying, “The union sports minister listened to our demands and assured us that a proper inquiry will be done. I thank him, and we are ending the demonstration in the hopes that a fair investigation will be conducted.

According to CNN station CNN News 18, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will also form a seven-person panel to look into the charges against Singh. IOA president PT Usha tweeted on Friday, “We will ensure a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice,” inviting athletes to come forward and express their concerns.

Additionally, the WFI president has canceled a news conference that was slated to take place on Sunday “until further notice.”

It “has taken a lot of courage for the wrestlers to come together” and submit their accusations against Singh, a member of the Indian Parliament for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, according to Phogat and her fellow wrestlers in the letter to the IOA.

They said, “We fear for our life.

“The absence of foreign training is the main problem. All have heard from us. We currently have a camp of 15 wrestlers, and three or four of them may be able to earn Olympic spots. I advised them to concentrate on four elite wrestlers and send teams overseas. The state should take a big move and immediately send the top four wrestlers abroad for training as time is running out “Inam spoke to “The News.”

“Everyone is familiar with Mohammad Bilal and Inayatullah, two excellent wrestlers who have Olympic potential. My likelihood to qualify for the Olympics is the same as that of another wrestler, possibly Zaman Anwar. Having four elite athletes train abroad will make things easier for us “said Inam.

“When you practice at home as a top player, you don’t gain anything, but others do because of your presence. You will develop if you train with the greatest group possible who can push you. If we want to see our top wrestlers qualify for the Olympics in 2024, I believe that foreign training is our only alternative “said Inam, who has a lot of international medals to his name.

“There are many events this year. We’re attempting to appear in the men’s ranking series as well. First, we’d want to play a ranking series. There are also a few international beach wrestling competitions because this year will also feature the World Beach Games. We still need to decide which events we’ll cover “said Inam.

Inam stated, “Our camp is ongoing in Lahore, and effort is being made to appear in a ranking series.

“We are giving it everything we have. Given that the first World Beach Games took place in 2019, this will probably be my final participation in the competition. The last gold that God gave me was, “stated Inam.

“I have focused on these sports because there are Olympic qualifying rounds and the 2024 Olympics. Since these are my final opportunities, they are currently the only thing on everyone’s mind “explained Inam.

For the Asian Championship, he hoped that the Pakistani wrestlers would be granted Indian visas. “We are hopeful that we will be granted Indian visas because the Asian Championship is very significant and only wrestlers who compete in this event will be qualified to compete in the World Championship, which will be held in Serbia and serves as a qualifying event for the Olympics the following year,” said Inam.

Between March 28 and April 2 in New Delhi, the Asian Championship will take place.

Phelps retired in 2016 and has since used his free time to explore several interests, including golf, a sport he’s been interested in since he first started swimming. He has pursued his interest throughout time and participated in numerous trips all over the nation. Given Phelps’ skill level, golfing appears to be more than simply a pastime for him.

It is quite improbable that Phelps will compete in the Olympic golf again as a golfer, even though he has been spotted at numerous courses and competitions across the nation. It is clear from studying numerous interviews with the former swimmer that Phelps has fretted about the various facets of being a professional athlete.

He now appears to want to live life to the fullest, partaking in everything from golf to starting a family and everything in between.

Phelps and golf

The former swimmer has been spotted participating in the sport on significant professional tours. In a 2012 interview with Rick Reilly of ESPN, Phelps stated: “I want to play all the great (golf) courses… (Bowman) gave me a poster with the 100 greatest courses in the world on it, and every time I play one, I put a little pin in it.” After dominating the pool for so long, Phelps developed an interest in golf.

When Phelps made a 159-foot putt during the 2012 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, he cemented his reputation in the golfing world. Olympic fans can buy Olympic Games 2024 Tickets from our website.

Phelps’ brilliant completion of a 159-foot putt during the 2012 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship marked the moment he cemented his place in the golfing world.

Along with American football player Ben Roethlisberger, Phelps assisted the United States in winning the 2022 Icons Series golf tournament at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey last year.

Although Phelps agrees that he has a great stroke, he still has a long way to go before he can consider himself a competent golfer. Two months ago, he revealed to Golf.com: ” “don’t think I always act correctly… Wind right is the one difference I can think of [between swimming] that I find difficult to acclimatize to.”

Although the 23-time Olympic golf gold champion is improving his game, he has not yet entered the professional ranks.

Therefore, it would be a stretch to say that we would be fortunate enough to witness his comeback to Olympic golf as a golfer. However, as he gets ready for a few outings this year, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy watching him play the sport.
