They are determined to compete in the archery competition at the France Olympic Games in Paris. They have been practising hard and making their handmade bows in their quest to qualify for the France Olympic. The sport is particularly meaningful to them. As they are inspired by the use of archery bows by Arabic heroes in battles against their enemies. However, the duo has had to overcome several obstacles, including a lack of access to bows and arrows in Gaza. And other than that the West Bank, as well as restrictions on imports imposed by Israel.

The two men took the initiative to manufacture their archery equipment in Gaza, using the tools available to them. To compete in the France Olympic games, they needed to produce two types of bows, compound and recurve. Naief explained that they had to learn how to make them locally by studying specialized websites. Al-Zahhar transformed a small room in his home into a workshop. But they faced many challenges and setbacks in their attempts to create their bows and arrows.

Olympic Paris: Athletes want to compete with Handmade Bows at France Olympic

Al-Zahhar and Naief were determined to manufacture their own archery equipment for the Olympic Paris competition. Even despite facing challenges in acquiring the necessary tools in Gaza. They learned to create compound bows and recurve bows by studying specialized websites. And they consulted with international experts on social media to ensure their designs met Olympic Paris standards.

Additionally, the two men visited blacksmithing and carpentry workshops in Gaza to supervise the production process. And they pay attention to every millimetre of thickness in the ends and central piece. Although they experienced several failures in their workshop at Al-Zahhar’s house. But they remained committed to their goal of competing in the Olympic Paris.

Despite facing various obstacles and challenges, Ahmed al-Zahhar and Wasim Naief’s hard work and determination paid off as they successfully made their first bow after six months of manufacturing. With the help of experts, they spent around 1,700 U.S. dollars to create a bow that meets Olympic standards. Since then, they have been practising and honing their skills in archery. In 2021, they joined the Palestine Athletic Federation and pompously characterized Palestine in the archery championship held in Iraq.
