Russell was involved in Bathโs 23-21 success over Northampton Saints in the focus final at Twickenhamโs Allianz Stadium. The 31-year-old contributed 13 of his teamโs points, steering the game with the kind of direction and flair that has become his brand. But while the revels are richly deserved, Russell knows that earning a Test spot on this summerโs Lions tour is far from guaranteed.
He will be joined by 15 fellow players after this weekendโs domestic finals. Including club teammate Will Stuart, Leicester lock Ollie Chessum, and a major Leinster reliant comprising 12 players. Russell believes that the pressure-cooker environment of this seasonโs Premiership run-in featuring gritty victories over teams like Bristol and Leicester has prepared him for the unique power of a Lions series.
I donโt know if itโs a springboard exactly, Russell reflected. But I think having come through high-stakes games semi-finals, finals, and the kind of knockout rugby weโve played itโs helped. These are the kinds of games where you learn to manage pressure, stay composed, and ultimately find a way to win.
British and Irish Lions 2025: Russell Shifts Focus to Lions Tour After Historic Triumph
Russell emphasized how crucial this mindset is ahead of the British and Irish Lions three-Test series. Widely seen as the pinnacle of international rugby outside the World Cup. When you get into the Lions setup, everything shifts a gear. Itโs another level of intensity because youโre training and playing with the best of the best across Britain and Ireland, he said.
Every player is fighting not just to make the Test team, but to win those games. Thereโs no room for passengers. He continued, These Tests are like knockout matches you lose one and the whole series can swing. Thatโs why playing in high-pressure club games is so valuable. It helps you stay calm and find a way through when it matters most.
While this will be Russellโs third involvement in a British and Irish Lions 2025 tour, heโs yet to establish himself as a Test regular, and heโs under no illusions about the fierce competition heโll face to earn a starting role under head coach Andy Farrell. Everyoneโs pushing hard. Every session, every warm-up game it all matters. Itโs been in the back of my mind ever since I was named in the squad.
But we had a job to do with Bath first, and I wasnโt going to let myself get distracted. Now that weโve done it, now that weโve won something really meaningful, I can shift my full focus to whatโs coming. Russell also spoke candidly about the emotional weight of winning a title after such a long drought, both personally and for the club.

Lions Vs Wallabies Tickets: Russell and Bath Reap Rewards of a Seasonโs Grit
I fly to Dublin on Monday to join the Lions camp, but Iโm making sure I enjoy this first, he smiled. Itโs been ten years since I last won a major trophy. These moments donโt come around often, and I think itโs important to take them in, to enjoy what weโve accomplished before moving on.
Bathโs win marks a turning point for the club, which has endured years of inconsistency and near-misses. Under head coach Johann van Graan, theyโve transformed into one of the most consistent and resilient teams in the league. Russell has been at the heart of that transformation, bringing both his trademark creativity and a newfound maturity to the side.
This isnโt just about one game or one final, he added. Itโs about the 48 weeks weโve worked for this. The hours in training, the tough losses, the little wins along the way. That all builds to this moment. Itโs why you play rugby for the chance to be part of something historic.
Though Russell is quick to highlight the collective effort, his influence canโt be overstated. Since joining Bath from Racing 92, he has become their heartbeat on the field directing play, managing tempo, and pulling the strings in the tensest of moments. In the final, it was his game management and nerveless goal-kicking that kept Bath on top.

British and Irish Lions Tickets: Russellโs Lions Focus Intensifies
Iโm looking forward to the challenge, he said. Thereโs huge competition, and thatโs how it should be. Youโve got to earn it. For now, Iโll celebrate what weโve achieved with Bath because it means a lot but tomorrow the work starts again.
Finn Russell stands at a career crossroads, basking in the glow of Bathโs historic Premiership triumph while preparing for one of rugbyโs most prestigious and demanding challenges: a British and Irish Lions tour. His performances this season have underlined his evolution as not just a maverick playmaker but a big-game player capable of steering a team to silverware.

But soon enough, itโs back to business because in the world of the Lions, the margins are razor-thin, and every moment counts.
Despite this high point, Russell remains grounded about whatโs next. The Lions series looms large, and the Test jersey remains a coveted but uncertain goal.
