Farrell said Mondayโs scan results were encouraging and noted that the players unavailable for the opening game against the Pumas are only about a week away from being match-fit. Itโs good news on most of the injuries, said Farrell, who will take charge of the Lions as head coach for the first time on Friday.
There are always a few knocks to deal with thatโs just the nature of the game but overall, weโre in a good place, said Farrell. While Englandโs Alex Mitchell will start at scrum-half at the Aviva Stadium. With Walesโ Tomos Williams providing backup from the bench.
Hugo Keenan and Tadhg Furlong also sat out Leinsterโs first trophy win in four years at Croke Park on Saturday. However, Furlong is in line to make his return to action his first appearance since Leinsterโs Investec Champions Cup semi-final loss to Northampton Saints on May 3 if he comes off the bench against Argentina.
British and Irish Lions 2025: Farrell Pleased with Early Lions Camp
Furlong, 32, is set to become a Lion for the third time, capping off a season in which injuries have limited him to just nine appearances for Leinster and Ireland. Heโs fit and ready to go, Farrell said of the tighthead prop, also noting that Scotland and Glasgow center Huw Jones has been training fully.
With Leinster, Bath, and Leicester Tigers all playing in domestic finals last weekend, and Toulouse still in action in France. It was a smaller group that I took to Portugal for last weekโs British and Irish Lions 2025 training camp.
Although Leinster hooker Kelleher will be on the bench Friday night just six days after winning the URC. The rest of the squad selected to face Argentina were already in camp when measures began. Those lads are ahead of the game, Farrell said. Its worked out well with a good mix of players whoโve had a head start. It was also quite a varied group, with different blends and players who hadnโt played together.
It was great for that initial group to have a week to settle in before the rest of the players joined on Monday some coming in on a high. And one, like Leicesterโs Ollie, not so much, Farrell said. But itโs been good for them to spend time with the squad, get to know each other and catch up on whatโs been happening. Weโve had one full training session so far, so it was nice to finally get everyone together.

British Irish Lions 2025 Tickets: Schmidt Adds Seven to Wallabies Training Group
To make up for the absence of several players staying with the Western Force. Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt has called up seven additional players to join the wider training group ahead of the Test against Fiji on July 6. The new additions are Tane Edmed, David Feliuai, Darby Lancaster, Ryan Lonergan, Isaac Kailea, Matt Philip, and Rory Scott.
Selection is always tight, and naturally, there will be thrilled players and others who are disappointed, Schmidt said. As coaches, we had plenty of healthy, in-depth conversations about the squad. In the end, we believe weโve chosen a group thatโs ready to put in the work. And build strong connections as a team something fans lucky enough to secure British Irish Lions 2025 Tickets will be eager to see on display.
Schmidt also highlighted a balance in the squad, pointing to a blend of familiar faces and fresh talent. โThereโs some good continuity from last year, which is important, but weโve also brought in some new. And returning players who have earned their spots through standout performances in Super Rugby Pacific, he added.
The expanded squad gives Australia depth and flexibility ahead of a busy international calendar. While allowing the coaching staff to assess form, combinations. And fitness leading into the Fiji match and the highly anticipated series against the British and Irish Lions.
