Brown later suggested that his relationship with Nike might have affected the decision, an allegation USA Basketball managing director Grant Hill strongly rejected.
Grant Hill Rejects Shoe Company Claim and Defends His Own Character
Hill addressed the controversy during an interview on the Road Trippin’ podcast, sharing that he had personally called Brown to discuss the selection process. I called Jaylen. Brown Open to Exploring Another National Team Through Family Roots
The 76ers forward has expressed interest in looking into that possibility, even though he hasn’t announced plans to make a change of international allegiance. It’ll be cool to simply explore that and go make an impact somewhere where it’d be valued the most, Brown said. Any potential switch would rely on citizenship and FIBA eligibility regulations, instead of simply finding ancestral connections to another country.
Brown will be 31 when the Los Angeles Olympics start, leaving him with a good opportunity to play at a high level if selected. Whether that opportunity comes with Team USA is still uncertain, especially after his latest comments suggested that the disagreements surrounding his past omission have not fully disappeared.
