When Caroline Green and Michael Parsons step onto the ice, their goal is simple. To make the audience feel the joy and passion they have for ice dancing. For them, a successful performance isn’t just about the technical scores; it’s about leaving people smiling. If the audience leaves the rink grinning, they know they did something right. And if the judges can’t help but hide a smile behind their score sheets.

They know the performance was truly exceptional. While many skaters adopt serious or dramatic routines during the 2026 Winter Olympic 2026 season. Green and Parsons took a different approach this year. Their program features a lively mix of Groove is in the Heart and I’m Too Sexy. Creating a unique blend of ’90s dance music and playful kitsch.

The routine is complemented by a colorful costume for Green and plenty of energy from both skaters. Parsons describes it as super bubbly and fun, a little ridiculous, tongue-in-cheek at times, adding, we just want everyone in the audience to have as much fun as we’re having. Their love for ice dancing goes far beyond the entertainment factor.

Both grew up in Montgomery County, skating at Wheaton Ice Arena—first alongside their siblings and later together as a pair. That early passion has carried them into adulthood, where they now represent the United States as members of the National Team. They were alternates at the 2022 Olympics, an experience they view as a stepping stone for the next Winter Olympic 2026 cycle.

Their performances, combined with results from international competitions, will determine which teams secure the three pairs’ spots on the 2026 U.S. Olympic Games Ice Dancing Team. Madison Chock and Evan Bates are widely expected to claim the first spot, leaving Green and Parsons to compete against Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko, as well as Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik, for the remaining two.

The team will be officially announced on January 11, with the Olympic Games set to take place in February in Milano Cortina. Green and Parsons are very theatrical and exciting, and they have a lot of international experience, said Johnny Weir, a two-time Olympian and NBC commentator. With a clean skate, they could certainly challenge for one of the spots in Milan.

What I love most about this partnership is that they always allow their personalities to shine. Montgomery County is known for producing summer Olympians, but its representation in the Winter Games has been sparse. Freestyle skier Ashley Caldwell, who grew up in Virginia but was born in Montgomery Village, was the only athlete with county ties at the 2022 Games. The last Olympic ice dancer from the region was Kent Weigle in 1976.

Olympic Tickets: Family Support and Early Lessons

Green and Parsons hope to change that. Though they now train in Michigan, they still consider Derwood and Rockville home, and when they step onto the ice in Italy, they aim to represent not only the United States but also the community that nurtured their love of skating. Parsons didn’t originally plan to become an ice dancer.

He wanted to play hockey, but his mother, Christine, encouraged him to take figure skating lessons first to learn fundamental skating skills. She also enrolled his younger sister, Rachel. It didn’t take long for Michael to fall in love with the ice and abandon his hockey ambitions. I thought, Oh, this would really help my skating skills for hockey, he said. Still waiting for that transition.

Christine Parsons grew up skating herself and was already familiar with the sport. Caroline Green’s mother, Mary, was new to it. She enrolled her children in lessons because her husband, who is from upstate New York, wanted the family to enjoy skating together. Around the same time, Russian ice dancers Alexei Kiliakov and Elena Novak were establishing the Wheaton Ice Skating Academy (WISA).

In search of talent, they visited local rinks and quickly noticed the Parsons siblings. Olympic Tickets, They invited Michael and Rachel into their program shortly after launching WISA in 2003, a move that would set the stage for Michael’s future partnership with Caroline and their journey to the highest levels of ice dancing.
