Wimbledon will miss a few big names in the men’s squad this year, and now Tennis star Rafael Nadal has joined the roster. The 36-year-old 21-time Grand Slam champion is in his 14th French Open final. After Alexander Zverev suffered a serious right ankle injury in Friday’s semi-final. Wimbledon 2022 fans can buy Wimbledon 2022 Tickets from our website.

Nadal, who won the Australian Open in January with a record 21st Grand Slam, will reportedly be taking a break from Sunday’s final against Norwegian Casper Ruud. Wimbledon starts on Monday 27 June, three weeks later.

Wimbledon had previously banned Russian and Belarus players from this year’s tournament following the Russian attack on Ukraine, meaning US Open champion and world champion Daniil Medvedev, No. 7 Andrey Rublev and second-seeded Karen Khachanov will not be available.

In response, the ATP announced that no ranking points will be awarded at Wimbledon, which is basically a two-week tournament.

Tennis star Rafael Nadal opposed the decision and said he was sympathetic to the Russian player.

“I think it’s very unfair to my Russian tennis partners and my colleagues,” he said. “In that sense, what happened at the time of war was not their fault.”

Alexander Zverev

World No. 3 Zverev left the field on Friday in a wheelchair and returned on crutches, meaning his place at Wimbledon is also up in the air.

Roger Federer, who has won eight of his 20 Grand Slam titles. Also has no plans to play at Wimbledon but hopes to return to his favourite tournament in 2023, his agent recently said.

Tennis star Rafael Nadal has not played at Wimbledon since 2019, winning just two of his 21 Grand Slam titles there (10 in 2008).

He was plagued with chronic left foot problems, which didn’t seem to stop him at the French Open, where he defeated world No. 1, Novak Djokovic, in four sets in the quarter-final round of the world No. 1 Felix Auger-Aliassime in five innings. Still, he plans to take a break.

Djokovic, who won Wimbledon in the third round of the Grand Slam last summer, will again be the favourite this year without Medvedev, Nadal and Zverev, who may be absent in 2022. It may be easier for Odd to win the title.

Novak Djokovic gets support as Serbian ‘happy’ Wimbledon punished by ATP

Novak Djokovic has received massive support from tennis fans after revealing he was “happy” that Wimbledon lost his rankings for having excluded Russian and Belarus players from this year’s tournament. In addition to the 2021 tournament, the ATP and WTA have decided to strip Wimbledon of ranking points for the upcoming tournament. That means players cannot defend the points they won last year.

Djokovic, who won the Wimbledon title in 2021, admitted he was “affected” by the move. But added that he was happy with the ATP’s decision. World number one has criticized Wimbledon’s ‘wrong decision’.

In a poll of Express Sport readers, 30 per cent of voters supported Djokovic’s insistence. The ATP remove ranking points from the tournament. However, 61.6% of the 10,788 voters thought that the ranking points should be preserved, a huge blow to the ATP. Those unsure of the decision accounted for 4.4% of respondents.

Djokovic said last week: “I was hit because I couldn’t defend 4,000 points in Australia and Wimbledon.”

“But I’m happy to see the ATP and the players decide to show Wimbledon. That when you make the wrong decision there are consequences. Wimbledon is still Wimbledon, it was my childhood dream. I never looked at it for bonus points. But I understand the group of players that are affected. It’s a lose-lose situation.”

Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal added: “I don’t have a clear opinion. There is always a board or one person who makes decisions and all players have to abide by that. Every player has a different opinion about everything and in this world. We need someone to make the decision I agree it’s good.”

But two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray took a swipe at the ATP. Saying fans don’t care at all about points in the rankings.

“Taking points away, if it doesn’t stop players from playing then. I don’t think it’s a great move for the ATP,” the Briton said on Monday.

“I’m sure Wimbledon will continue and have a very strong field of players. They took the points everyone still shows up”.

He added: “I don’t believe anyone in the ATP supports what is going on in Ukraine. I think they are doing their best to protect the players and that is the decision they have made. Some players like this decision but I think some of the most people don’t.”

“I spoke to some Russian players in Madrid and I have a good opinion about these players. I like them, I’m friends with them and I don’t believe they support what’s going on [in Ukraine].”

The ATP and WTA stripped Wimbledon points by barring Russian and Belarusian players from this summer’s Grand Slams.

After being eliminated from the French Open, Osaka has expressed doubts about her presence at SW19.

“I would say the decision had a bit of an impact, as my mind went into the grass like. I wasn’t 100 per cent sure I was going to go there”. she said at a news conference after the loss.

“So, I don’t want to be meaningless, no pun intended but at the same time for me. It’s kind of, I’d love to get some experience on the grass. But I’m that type of player because see I was motivated by my ranking upwards. Wimbledon 2022 fans can buy Wimbledon Tickets from our website.

“The executions were everywhere but I think the intention was really good.”

She added: “I don’t know why, but I feel like if I go to Wimbledon without points. It’s more of an exhibition. I know it’s not true, right? The exhibition, I can’t get into it 100 per cent stand.”
