“We want people to experience an experience they will never forget,” CEO Nasser Al Khater told BBC Sport.
Al Khater said they were still “finalizing our alcohol strategy”. But this was the first time the High Council of Heritage and Supply had publicly announced plans to allow fans to drink around stadiums.
Whether that will be in the lobby or in the stadium is yet to be confirmed. But according to reports, ticket holders will be allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages three hours. Before kick-off and one hour after the game, but not during the game.
It marked a significant relaxation of competition rules. As Qatar – like the rest of the Middle East – has strict controls on alcohol and it is illegal to drink in public.

“Other locations will be notified in due course,” Al Khater said, adding: “While alcohol will be available to those wishing to drink in designated areas, it will not be openly available on the streets.”
“What we are asking is that people adhere to these designated areas during their visits.
“We are very excited to welcome the world to Qatar, the Middle East and the Arab world. For many, this will be their first chance to see and explore the region.”

Qatar, with a population of just under 3 million, is expected to have about 1.2 million tourists during the World Cup.
“Nobody is worried about a shortage of accommodation,” said Al Khater.
With up to 130,000 rooms available in hotels, cabins on two cruise ships, apartments and desert camps.
Requests for tickets to the match have reached 40 million, of which 2.45 million have been sold, with Al Khater saying he is “confident” that all tickets will be sold to the public. Qatar is gearing up to open three new five-star hotels ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. As the country prepares to host more than a million international fans for the world’s biggest football tournament.
With less than 100 days to go before fans head to the region for a month-long event (starting Nov. 20), new hotels are opening in the Gulf State, the first-ever FIFA World Cup host nation. Middle East – September and October.
These include Wyndham Grand Doha West Bay Beach, a 278-room resort near Doha Corniche and St. Regis Marsa Arabia on Pearl Island in Qatar, an island-wide resort opening October 1.
A third – Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha – is also slated to open near Hamad International Airport in October.
About 1.2 million fans, about half of Qatar’s population, are expected to come to the country during the event. But providing enough rooms for visiting fans, teams and tournament staff has been a major challenge for Qatar. The organizers have tried everything from cruises to everything and desert camps to relieve the stress of lodging.

Ahead of the Qatar event in November, Italian manufacturer Panini SpA increased the price of a pack of five stickers by 12.5% in the UK, bringing the cost of a photo book full of 670 stickers to around £870 ($1,014).
Panini released his first World Cup album ahead of the 1970 event in Mexico. Since then it has attracted children and adult collectors, who gather at home, on the street and now online to exchange cards to complete their sticker collections. Panini’s sales reached $1 billion in 2018 after a strong World Cup year.
During the 2018 World Cup, a mathematician at Cardiff University in the UK calculated. That an average fan would need to purchase 4,832 stickers to complete the album, costing collectors £774.
Cost of sticker albums
In the US, 50 packs cost just $62 at Amazon.com Inc. and only $72 at Walmart Inc. Which could cost $1,160 to complete the album, about $150 more than in 2018. In Brazil, where 40 million stickers were sold on an average day before the 2018 World Cup. A pack is now selling for R$4(78 cents), double what it was four years ago.
That would bring the average cost to complete the album to a staggering R$3,865. According to Brazil’s Institute of Geography and Statistics, 1.5 times the country’s average monthly income.
Panini, who has been making sticker albums since 1961, also released rare stickers that pay tribute to 20-star players. A card featuring Argentina’s Lionel Messi sold for $490 on eBay. While those featuring Brazil’s Neymar Jr and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo sold for nearly $400.
This isn’t the first time a price hike has made headlines. Publishers increased prices by 60% in the UK in 2018 and 100% in Brazil compared to 2014.
