Francois Louw predicts the Lions tour will be “an awesome spectacle”

An “awesome spectacle” awaits fans in 2021 when the British & Irish Lions head to South Africa for their quadrennial tour. Former Springbok flank Francois Louw reckons the tourists will have a highlight demonstration against the men dressed in green and gold.

With the vastly experienced Warren Gatland leading the Lions’ charge to the Republic next year. The tourists will no doubt be a dangerous prospect as they aim to repeat the famous series of victories of 1997 and 1974. Rugby fans can book Lions vs Japan Tickets on our website at exclusively discounted prices.

Louw predicts Lions tour will be “an awesome spectacle”
Louw predicts the Lions tour will be “an awesome spectacle”

Warren Gatland:

Gatland is no stranger to Louw, who played Wales seven times in his Springbok career. Each time with the experienced New Zealand coach at the helm for the Red Dragons. After Wales beat the Boks for the first time in 1999, it took them another 15 years for their second victory over South Africa, in 2014.

From that point forward and including that coordinate, where Jean de Villiers genuinely hurt his knee in Cardiff. Wales’ record against the Boks is four successes from six matches (played in Cardiff, Washington DC, London and Tokyo).

Francois Louw Assumptions:

Their solitary two annihilations came at the Rugby World Cups of 2015 (quarter-last) and 2019 (semi-last). Louw assumed a significant part in the RWC season finisher a year ago. Compelling a breakdown punishment that ultimately prompted Handré Pollard to kick the game dominating three-pointer in an exceptionally close match.

And he believes next year’s British & Irish Lions tour will again be a close contest.

“I think we can expect an exciting campaign next year and the Lions will want to prove a point,” said Louw, who recently retired from rugby, in an interview with the SA Rugby Podcast.

“I additionally figure Warren Gatland will need to demonstrate a point against South Africa. We’re the dominant world champs, and that will presumably add some strain to legitimize that title.

“The Lions will bring a lot of history and heritage. Unfortunately, I missed out on playing against them in 2009 for Western Province . Something I wished to have done. But it’s the way things panned out for me.”

Francois Louw:

Louw thinks the British and Irish Lions will go to South Africa with a highlight demonstration. They will plan to whitewash the Springboks in the three-Test arrangement. However, having been involved with the Bok squad last year and knowing the players. He doesn’t think that will happen.

“It’s an exciting prospect for any British or Irish player – to represent your country is a pinnacle. But with the Lions an extra little step is added. You’re regarded as the best,” said Louw. He has played club rugby in England with Bath for the last decade.

It’s one thing to be good enough to play for your country. But now you’re deemed to be good enough to play for a team made up of players from four countries.

It’s a level up and a big motivation for the guys over here. They all want to play for the Lions. And hope to be selected to play in a Test in the red jersey. I’m sure they will be relishing the opportunity to play in South Africa.

Breakdown Master:

Obviously, a big bulk of the team is usually made up of English players. And with us having beaten them in the World Cup final last year. I think they will have a point to prove. Those players become a different team when they wear the Lions shirt.

They are a good outfit and have always been. But it’s a tough tour with some midweek games thrown in. So they will probably go to South Africa with almost two full squads.

“To have the next tour in South Africa is exciting for the fans too. They are looking forward to going to South Africa and I think it has the potential to be an awesome spectacle.”

Bowe thinks incredible British Lions series

Former Ireland and British & Irish Lions wing Tommy Bowe have warned the visitors to expect a tough series against the Springboks during their 2021 tour of South Africa.

Bowe was a member of the Lions squad that last toured South Africa in 2009 when the tourists suffered a 2-1 series defeat by the Springboks. Rugby fans can book British Irish lions tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Bowe thinks incredible British Lions series

He started all three Tests against the Boks, but Bowe most vividly remembers the thrilling second Test, when the hosts claimed a 28-25 victory at Loftus Versfeld thanks to Morne Steyn’s long-range penalty winner.

Speaking to the Lions website, Bowe recalled his feelings on that day and the incredible atmosphere created by the supporters.

‘It’s going to be an incredible series and it will be incredibly difficult for the Lions,’ Bowe told the Lions website.

‘My memories of that 2009 Tour are just that second Test – I will never forget the bus going to the stadium in Pretoria. I’ve never seen passion from a crowd like I saw that day going into the stadium in Pretoria – people were shaking the bus and shouting all sorts!

‘The reverberation of the crowd in the changing room of the stadium was just outrageous – you could just feel the supporter’s right outside.’

Bowe thinks incredible British Lions series

Bowe added that the World Cup-winning Springbok side with the likes of Cheslin Kolbe and Pieter-Steph du Toit will put the Lions through a tough series next year.

‘The Lions are going to be up against the world champions, and South Africa showed that they’re ruthless, physical and a match for anyone. The way they played against England in the World Cup Final, they just showed how difficult they are to play against.

‘I think Pieter-Steph du Toit is just an absolute machine, and of course, they’ve also got Cheslin Kolbe, who’s at the opposite end of the spectrum size-wise but is just so gifted. He’s somebody who, the minute he gets the ball in his hands, can get the whole crowd on their feet to see what he can do. They have no shortage of talent in their team, so it’s going to be an incredible series.’
