Earlier this summer, the lock broke his contract at Cardiff, shocking the Welsh rugby team and being immediately removed from the national team by Wayne Pivac.
At the time, the reason given was that Hill was looking for overseas options and already knew he would be moving to Japan.
Hill is contracted by the Canon Eagles and has players like Jesse Kriel and Amanaki Mafi on their books, who played in the top division of Japan last season.
Talking of moving, Cory Hill said, “I am very happy and thankful for the chance to join the Yokohama Canon Eagles Club.
“Particularly after feeling a moment of Japanese culture through the 2019 Six Nations World Cup, I’m very happy looking forward to working with my new colleagues and coaches, It has always been my dream to play in Japan and hopes to improve as much value as likely to this great club.”
After moving to Japan, Hill will temporarily give up his international career. Since his name has 32 caps, he is ineligible for selection as he does not meet the 60 cap threshold for players trading abroad.
Hill has played a vital role in the 2019 Grand Slam, since his Wales debut in 2016 and presented the Six Nations Championship in 2021. He captained Wales in the 2018 Argentina Tour but was absent from Rugby due to injury in World Cup 2019.
He captained Cardiff last season and his departure will be seen as a blow to Welsh rugby.
