Hispano Suiza Carmen marks the return of the Festival of Speed legend

On the opening day of Mastercard’s 2022 Festival of Speed. There were plenty of new machines on the mountain, from the Czinger 21C to the BMW M3 Touring. Not to be missed, however, is the Hispano-Suiza Carmen.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Hispano-Suiza was founded in Barcelona in 1904. And produced some very large and fast cars until its collapse in 1946. As such, the car is the first new Hispano-Suiza in more than seven decades, and Carmen’s name is inspired by Carmen Mateu. The granddaughter of Damián Mateu who originally founded the company.

Hispano Suiza Carmen marks the return of the Festival of Speed legend

On a technical level, the Carmen is very different from the model produced in the early 20th century. An all-electric luxury performance car with 1,020 horsepower (750 kilowatts) delivered by two electric motors. One for each electric motor on the rear wheel. In some ways, however, Carmen’s work is very similar to the old-school. Hispano Suiza, combining luxury and speed – the company describes Carmen as “super luxury,” a mishmash of “supercar” and “luxury.”

Only 24 of these strange-looking silent beasts will be built, and whether the styling suits you or not. The return of such a famous historic name should be celebrated. Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 fans can buy Goodwood Festival of Speed Tickets from our website.

Polestar 5 flexes muscles for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Today, the Swedish all-electric brand has announced the target power figures for its flagship super sedan. If Polestar achieves its target, the Polestar 5 will be an 884 hp (650 kW), 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) car when it goes on sale grace.

The low-slung four-door coupe will also feature an 800-volt electrical architecture for superior power and faster charging.

Polestar CTO Jorg Brandscheid

The Polestar CTO Jorg Brandscheid: “The new powertrains we are developing will set a new brand standard for our performance vehicles, Combining strong electrical capabilities with advances in lightweight platform technology creates a truly fantastic driving car.”

The Polestar 5 promises isn’t just a speed machine either, with a platform designed to handle its massive growl. It should be lightweight, stiff and high-tech, with what Polestar calls ‘low-volume automotive attributes’.

Presented only in mule form during FOS 2022. We can really get a sense of how the Polestar 5 is taking shape.

While some of the more extreme dimensions of the Discipline concept. That inspired, it has been omitted, this is still a very sexy show salon. The camouflage highlights tell us. That those beautiful double L-light signatures in the front should make their way into the production car. In the silhouette and livery, we can see the hips and nose descending from the top of the front wheels. A stylistic element that is difficult to see with a bike underneath.

All in all, this will be a very fast, very beautiful and high-quality four-door supercar. If Polestar gets the right power, the Audi E-Tron GT and Porsche Taycan will be in for a fight.

Viritech Apricale is a hydrogen-powered supercar with 1,000PS

The 1000PS (746 kW) supercar is firmly established in the minds of car enthusiasts. We wouldn’t say we’re tired of the four-digit power, but they don’t cause the slack jaws they once did. While the power has increased, the curb weight has also increased. So it’s refreshing that Viritech Apricale promises to come back to under 1,000kg while bragging about more horsepower. It debuted today at Mastercard’s Festival of Speed. Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 fans can buy Festival of Speed Tickets from our website.

Viritech Apricale is a hydrogen-powered supercar with 1,000PS

Electric vehicles have been the main driver of rapid weight gain. But Apricale also has no tailpipe emissions from its battery-powered rivals. The secret is hydrogen, and the company claims to have re-evaluated how fuel cell electric vehicles are configured.

Matt Faulks, CTO of Viritech

Matt Faulks, CTO of Viritech, explains: “Until now, hydrogen fuel cells have been used as a range extender for battery-oriented powertrains. We fundamentally changed that approach and developed a fuel cell built around hundreds of kilowatts of fuel supported by a lightweight yet efficient battery. This gives the Apricale supercar performance, but at less than half the weight of a typical BEV supercar. The weight reduction not only changes the driving dynamics of the Apricale’s. But we reduce reliance on batteries means less demand for rare earth minerals.”

One of the drawbacks of hydrogen vehicles is the need for heavy tanks to withstand pressure. By using lightweight composite materials and resins, Viritech has significantly reduced. The weight of the fuel tank results in reduced weight improved packaging and increased range. Apricale is expected to cover 350 fills before refuelling. The company has a patent-pending system that allows energy from fuel cells and batteries to change continuously. While regenerative braking benefits from greater energy recovery than conventional BEVs.

Viritech would like to take advantage of the lightweight and excellent road holding of the car. The carbon-fibre monocoque structure carries the tie rod suspension and drives motors for each axle. Power will be tuned to mimic that of a traditional mid-engine supercar. A mechanical differential is responsible for torque vectoring. The Apricale can put in 800 kW and a single ratio can take it from a standstill to over 200 mph.

Pininfarina has optimized the prototype design. The two companies are in talks to produce 25 cars to be built by the Italian company. Visitors to FOS will have the chance to see Apricale trees up close in the Michelin Supercar paddock.

In addition to the LMDh race car, Porsche’s other new racing project – the 718 GT4 performance – will make its debut. As Porsche’s first all-electric race car. The 612 hp (450 kW) machine is also capable of producing up to 1,000 hp (735 kW) in its most aggressive mode.

911 Sport Classic

The 911 Sport Classic is the latest in a series of special “Sport Classic” versions of the 911. Inspired by the original 911 and 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It features the iconic ducktail spoiler and a seven-speed manual transmission.

Who won the American Le Mans Series and Le Mans Championship, and the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. A one-off hybrid 911 GT3 with a clever flywheel racing design.

On top of that is the Porsche 911 RSR. The car that won the last Le Mans GTE Pro race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last weekend.

In addition to these great race cars, Porsche will also show off its latest beautiful road cars. These machines were featured in the First Glance presented by Heycar and Michelin Supercar Paddock, including the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS (you can see the review here), 911 GT3, and 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Racing’s new performance package and the Taycan GTS Sports Turismo.

BMW M3 Touring Debuts At Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23

Although the existence of several generations of the M5 wagon, not to mention direct competitors such as the Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 wagon, BMW has never produced a stretched version of the M3 performance sedan. However, that has all changed with the new generation, and today BMW announced that the M3 Touring will debut on June 23 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

BMW first teased the M3 car in August 2020 and gave us some new info or camo photos every few months.

Today’s news comes with a shaded image of the car with no camouflage, though increasing the brightness of the image doesn’t reveal much. Nevertheless. We could see the M3 Touring with a large spoiler above the hatch. As well as the same wide fenders, large rear diffuser and other styling cues as the M3 sedan. Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 fans can buy Goodwood Festival of Speed Tickets from our website.

In addition to the debut of the regular M3 Touring. BMW also comes with a wagon version from the M Performance parts catalogue. Other new models on display at Goodwood include the hardcore M4 CSL. Unfortunately, the M3 Touring won’t be sold in the US – which isn’t surprising. Given that the US doesn’t have a regular 3-Series touring or any of the M3’s wagon competitors. The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place June 23-26.

New Mercedes-AMG One supercar will make its debut at Mastercard's 2022 Festival of Speed
New Mercedes-AMG One supercar will make its debut at Mastercard’s 2022 Festival of Speed

1000PS Mercedes AMG One has world premiere at Festival of Speed

After years in the making, the new Mercedes-AMG One supercar will make its debut at Mastercard’s 2022 Festival of Speed.

That’s right, one of the most anticipated cars of the past decade will take to the hills of Goodwood in June. Five years later by Lewis Hamilton at the 2017 Frankfurt International Motor Show for its first Appearance. Why Lewis Hamilton? Because the One is powered by a turbocharged Mercedes F1-derived 1.6-litre V6 hybrid.

The performance is comparable. There are four electric motors (one in the turbo, one directly connected to the engine and one on each front wheel) for a combined 1,063 hp (782 kW), enough for 0-100 km/h and 218 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

The Mercedes-AMG One will run up the hills every day during the holiday season.

What is the engine of the Mercedes-AMG One?

We’ve covered the basics above, but it’s worth diving into the details as there’s a lot more to do. As we said, the powertrain is similar to a Mercedes-AMG F1 race car, a 1.6-litre single-turbo V6 hybrid. Where you would normally find mechanical valve springs in automotive engines. You will find pneumatic valve springs, and there are direct injection and port injection for fuel efficiency and performance. Goodwood Festival of Speed fans can buy Goodwood Speed Festival Tickets from our website.

How does the hybrid system of the Mercedes-AMG One work?

The engine spins at 11,000 rpm and the electric motor. That spins the turbine produces 90 kW of power and spins up to 100,000 rpm. Before the exhaust gas takes over.

The powertrain is similar to a Mercedes-AMG F1 race car
The powertrain is similar to a Mercedes-AMG F1 race car

At the same time, the energy from the excess exhaust gases spins the electric motor to generate electricity. Which is then sent to the electric motor on the front wheels. The 8.4 kWh lithium-ion battery or the electric motor on the engine. Six in total, including four preheated metal catalysts and two ceramic catalysts. Oh, and two particulate filters. Simple, right?

The motors on the engine mounted to the crankshaft produce 120 kW of power. While each engine on the front axle produces 120 kW of power up to 50, 000 rpm and is connected to the shaft via a reduction gear (as you can imagine the wheels spin at 50,000 rpm? rpm?) And Mercedes says they have 80 per cent energy recovery in everyday driving.

Can it work in pure electric mode?

The 8.4 kWh battery is the same as in the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance, is charged via a 3.7 kW onboard charger and uses an 800 V architecture to provide up to 18.1 miles of pure electric power to drive. To keep everything at an optimal temperature, in most cases around 45 degrees Celsius, coolant is routed from top to bottom around the individual cells.

BMW has finally made an official M3 Touring
BMW has finally made an official M3 Touring

Which one would you go directly to?

BMW M3 Touring

Yes, BMW has finally made an official M3 Touring, and we’re pretty sure it’s the M Car the company promised to show at the Festival of Speed. It will be powered by the same ‘S58’ inline-six as the sedan, meaning it will produce 503 horsepower in Competition form. Yes, it still has that grille, but hopefully, you’re used to it by now.

Ford Ranger Raptor

The new Ford Ranger Raptor has already been unveiled and shown publicly, but FOS will give the widest audience a chance to see it. Although the 2.0-litre diesel engine will eventually be fitted to the Baja-inspired pickup. It will initially come with a petrol V6. This should make for a more interesting soundtrack for the Goodwood audience.

Toyota GR Supra Manual

A new manual sports car in 2022? You better believe it. The debut of the gear lever GR Supra’s Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 marks the second straight year that Toyota has brought such a car to the masses at FOS. The Japanese manufacturer’s 2021 event. Oh, and that car is going to tour, too. Attention sports car enthusiasts.

Gordon Murray Automotive T.50

Certainly, the GMA T.50 was already outraged by the Goodwood campaign. The spiritual successor to McLaren F1 made its debut at the 78th General Assembly. Giving the world its first chance to hear the Cosworth-built 12,100rpm V12 really sing its heart out. Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 fans can buy Goodwood Festival Tickets from our website.

But given that there will never be a new car like this one again. It’s fantastic that the T.50 will let so many petrol heads experience this at the Festival of Speed. Murray’s masterpiece is arguably the loudest new metal work on the show.

Lexus Electric sports concept

Toyota called the electrified sport the successor to the Lexus LFA. Which the company’s then-president Akio Toyoda described as “the secret rudeness fueled by development” of its groundbreaking V10 supercar.

FOS 2022 will be the first time the public outside of Japan sees the concept. It should be a very early preview of the production version speaking of that car powered by solid-state batteries, it won’t be in for years. Showrooms come. As the concept is a mockup rather than a fully functional car. It will be displayed statically on the festival’s electric boulevard, rather than exploding on a mountain.

Mercedes-AMG One

Just a few weeks after its global debut, the Mercedes-AMG One supercar will make a splash at the Festival of Speed. Given the length of time this machine has been in development, meaning (as you might expect) it’s difficult to fit a slightly diluted F1 engine to a road car – expectations are high. At the show, we will see customers paying £2.5 million each for the 275 AMG One.

Prodrive P25

The Prodrive P25 is basically a catnip for age-specific petrolheads, taking the Subaru Impreza 22B, completely redesigning it into a lighter 400 horsepower monster and charging quite a bit of money for it. How much are you asking? £552,000 (incl. VAT) based on CT sister title Auto Express. Ouch.

Most of us will have to settle for tinkering with one of the Gran Turismo, and/or taking a look at Goodwood, where the car makes its debut. Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 fans can buy Goodwood Speed Tickets from our website.

Porsche 911 Sport Classic

The Porsche (who else) will give FOS more of the goodness of a manual transmission coupe in the form of the 911 Sport Classic. That is the name the German manufacturer used in the past. But for the 911 of the 992 generation, it meant a 911 Turbo, with the four-wheel-drive being discarded and a seven-speed manual transmission fitted. With an output of 543 horsepower, it is the most powerful manual 911 currently available.

Mercedes-AMG One to the entrance at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022

The Mercedes-AMG One supercar will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 23-26, 2022.

Therefore, the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar has been officially unveiled ahead of deliveries starting later this year. The company has confirmed it will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 from June 23-26.

When the Mercedes-AMG One is the first car to bring Formula 1 hybrid engine technology to the road, with a 1,063 hp 1.6-litre V6 – derived from the exact same engine as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell Engine and four electric motors.

Remarkably, it has an official average fuel economy of 32.5mpg and CO2 emissions of less than 200g/km.

The engine has been developed in conjunction with Mercedes-AMG’s high-performance powertrain F1 division, based in Brixworth, Northampton. The Brackley based F1 division also helped develop the One, making its dynamic British debut a fitting car. Goodwood Festival of Speed fans can buy Speed Festival Tickets from our website.

“With Mercedes-AMG One we have exceeded our limits,” said division chairman Phillipp Schiemer.

“The enormous technical challenge of making a modern Formula 1 powertrain suitable for everyday road use has certainly pushed us to the limit.

“A lot of people thought that the project could not be carried out. Despite this, the team never gave up.”

Mercedes-AMG technical director Jochen Hermann added that the project was “in a sense a curse and a blessing at the same time. But we’ve come a long way”.

F1 engines in road cars

The 1.6-litre V6 hybrid engine revs up to 11,000 rpm, although this is intentionally under the F1 rev limit. Both for durability and to ensure it can run on regular super pump fuel.

It has a high-tech turbo with a shared gas turbine and a compressor connected by a shaft on which a 122 hp electric motor is mounted.

The electric motor powers the turbo before the exhaust stream takes over. Which is why Mercedes-AMG says its response is “lightning fast faster than a naturally aspirated V8”.

It has four electronically heated use catalytic converters. That help the engine meet the stringent Euro 6 emissions under ‘Real Driving Conditions’.

This rigorous test is a challenge for even the humblest hatchback. For a 1,063 horsepower engine originally designed for F1, it’s nothing short of extraordinary.

Thanks to plug-in hybrid technology, pure electric vehicles can cover more than 18 kilometres. It also helps the Mercedes-AMG One to achieve impressive fuel economy and low emissions during the test cycle.

In terms of performance, 0-62 mph is claimed to take 2.9 seconds and 0-124 mph in 7.0 seconds. The top speed is capped at 219 mph – still making it the fastest Mercedes-AMG road car ever.

With Mastercard hosting the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 in a few weeks. We can now start compiling the list of incredible racers that will be on the mountain in June.

Reborn Rex Prodrive P25 for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 entrance

If you are looking for a Hyundai Subaru Impreza 22B STI, this is the closest you can get.

Prodrive, the UK-based motorsports company behind some of Subaru’s biggest rally victories, will unveil its retro-looking P25 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 in June.

The Prodrive P25, previewed in sketches, looks nearly identical to the rally-derived two-door 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STI. But thanks to “modern technology,” the motorsports company claims it will be stronger, lighter, and have better management.

The P25 name commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Subaru Impreza World Rally Car (WRC)’s first debut in the World Rally Championship.

Under the hood is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine with an output of more than 298 kW. It will be mated to a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, with power sent to all four wheels.

For situation, the original road Subaru Impreza 22B STI was powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder boxer engine. That produced 206 kW and 363 Nm of torque. It is mated to a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission and the drive is sent to all four wheels.

The Prodrive P25 will also seemingly have a lightweight framework with “heavy use of carbon fibre”. It is unclear whether this will be a modified platform or a redesigned version of the existing Subaru Impreza WRC platform.

The UK-based racing company will build just 25 Subaru Impreza 22B style cars at its headquarters in Banbury, UK.

Who designed the original Subaru Impreza WRC for Prodrive. The Prodrive P25 was designed by Peter Stevens. Who was responsible for the engineering of the original rally car. While engineering was overseen by Prodrive Technical Director David Lapworth.

David Richards

“The original 22B Impreza’s most iconic model was considered Subarus’ and was in high demand,” said Pro Chairman David Richards.

“Our own modern interpretation of a car that has a place in automotive history. We wanted to improve on everything that makes this car so special by applying the latest technology to create.”

Prodrive has already expressed interest in the P25, with the first of 25 cars set to be delivered to customers later in 2022.

Limited-production reinterpretations of classic iconic vehicles are currently on the rise, with recent examples including vehicles such as the Lancia 037-inspired Kimera Evo37. The Jaguar E-Type-inspired Eagle Lightweight GT and Singer’s Porsche 911.

DeLorean EV

DeLorean will also unveil its retro-inspired DeLorean EV on May 31, 2022. Before unveiling it at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18, 2022.

The Prodrive P25 will sit together with the Hunter. The legal version of the brand’s Dakar Rally rival, in the ever-expanding prodrive range.

Early Subaru Impreza WRX STI models are already legendary. But it’s fair to say that Subaru’s recent decision to destroy the STI brand. As we know it has made them even more important.

Subaru says it just can’t make the new STI work in the current context. In other words, it must reduce its total emissions.

“Subaru Corporation will accelerate their investments in future performance technologies and confirm today. That there will be no STI variant of the next-generation Subaru WRX,” said Subaru Australia.
