The 45-year-old Woods felt emergency surgery in February after a high-speed car accident. Which left him with multiple broken legs and ankle fractures.

He spent three months in a hospital bed before being able to sit in a wheelchair and crutches. But his recovery is still slow. He has already seen the most iconic game of golf in his eyes.

While admitting that full-time coverage of the sport is unlikely. Woods has indicated that he still plans to compete in one-off events.

Two of the American’s three Open Championships were won in St Andrews in 2000 and 2005. And he looks determined to win his fitness fight in 2022 and host it at the “Golf House.”

“I really want to play in St Andrews,” he said.

“This is my favourite golf course in the world. To be a two-time British Open champion there, it’s a lot of fun to attend the championship dinner.”

Woods, 45, spoke to reporters at the first press conference after the accident. Promoting the Heroes World Challenge in the Bahamas, which kicks off on Thursday.

He admits that if his goal to play in Scotland becomes a reality, his road to recovery has a long way to go.

“There is no doubt that Tiger woods would love to compete in the British Open. Physically I hope I can,” he said.

“So I have to prove to myself that I am good enough in practice. I will step in and push one of these people, but the golf course is more than just a chip and putter course.

“So I have to play a bigger game than this, we won’t be playing par three in Augusta to win the Masters. I still have a long way to go in the recovery process to be able to do something like this.”

The 15-time major champion now returns to his Florida home where he can continue to recover, and despite his discomfort, he still participates in the sport.
