Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama caught three birdies on the five holes of the last nine holes and won the 18th hole on Sunday with a five-stroke lead over the PGA Tour Zozo Championship. This is the first time Matsuyama has won a PGA Tour title in his native Japan, though he’s only attempted it once before. The British Open fans can buy British Open Tickets from our website.

In 2019, British Open champion Tiger Woods won the first Zozo Championship, the first PGA Tour event in Japan. Last year, the game moved to California due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Matsuyama shot 65 and 265 under 15 at the Narashino Country Club. This is his seventh PGA Tour win.

If there was any doubt, Matsuyama’s second shot of the par-5 on the 18th hole pushed the 3 wood in about 12 feet, pushing it into the eagle thrust?

When asked when he thought he had won the home game, Matsuyama said through an interpreter: “It could be my 18-year-old second shot, and that could be the key.”

The Americans finished in second place with 10 results under par: Brendan Steele shot 66 and Cameron Tringale shot 69.

Zozo Championship

Tringale was two shots behind Matsuyama on the 18th hole. But the Japanese eagle and American bogey made it a five-stroke mat.

“I have to take some risks, unfortunately, it didn’t work out, but I played 16 really good holes that day,” said Tringale.

British Open champion Collin Morikawa fired 69 shots in the final round, 10 shots behind Matsuyama.

Tokyo Olympic champion Xander Schauffele scored 68. Rickie Fowler shot 71 for the second time in a row, finishing with a score of 3 or more.

Schauffele said: “It’s not exactly the same experience and it didn’t play well. But despite the lockdown and the COVID rules. I still like being here.”

“I saw some of my relatives here, which is really cool. I didn’t have a chance to see them, so it was a shining moment for me.”

The lone leg of the PGA Tour swing in Asia drew just three of the top 20 rankings in the world.
